Beijing, October 10 (Xinhua) — China's retaliatory measures against the US levying additional port charges on Chinese vessels are a "legitimate defense" aimed at maintaining fair competition in international shipping and shipbuilding markets, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.

“This move by the United States is a typical act of unilateralism of a clearly discriminatory nature, which seriously harms the interests of Chinese companies,” the department’s representative noted in an online statement.

Almaty, October 10 /Xinhua/ — Almaty is actively developing artificial intelligence technologies and its smart city digital infrastructure, which will improve security. This was reported on Friday by the Kazinform news agency, citing the Almaty City Digitalization Department.

According to the department, the Unified Video Surveillance System project was launched in 2023. This is the first such project not only in Kazakhstan but also in all of Central Asia. Currently, over 50,000 public surveillance cameras are connected to the system, more than 2,000 of which are equipped with facial recognition. By the end of the year, this number is planned to increase to 70,000.

Almaty, October 10 (Xinhua) — The Monetary Policy Committee of the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) has decided to set the base rate at 18 percent per annum with a range of plus or minus 1 percentage point. The regulator's press service reported this on Friday.

Against the backdrop of accelerating inflation, signs of demand exceeding supply expansion, and active fiscal policy, measures must be taken to stabilize inflation dynamics and prevent the risk of an inflationary spiral, the National Bank explained.

Beijing, October 10 (Xinhua) — American agencies are senselessly harassing, interrogating, and deporting Chinese citizens, and China expresses its serious dissatisfaction and resolute condemnation of these actions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

Recently, another Chinese citizen was reportedly searched, detained, and deported by the American authorities upon entering the United States, with his personal freedom restricted for more than 48 hours.

Commenting on these reports, Guo Jiakun stated at a regular press briefing that despite China's repeated and stern warnings, US agencies are senselessly harassing, interrogating, and deporting Chinese citizens using harsh law enforcement methods.
