CAIRO, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — At least seven people were killed and 44 injured on Friday when a bus and two trucks collided on a desert highway in Egypt's Giza governorate, Al-Masry Al-Youm website reported.

The preliminary investigation results showed that the bus collided with two trucks that had stopped on the side of the road due to a sudden breakdown.

The front of the bus was reportedly completely destroyed, causing numerous casualties. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

The Egyptian prosecutor's office ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

Road accidents in Egypt often occur due to poor infrastructure and lack of compliance with traffic rules.

In recent years, Egypt has been upgrading its road network, building new highways and bridges and repairing old ones to reduce the number of accidents. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — China expresses serious concern over Israel's decision on Gaza and calls on it to immediately stop this dangerous move, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

Guo Jiakun made the remarks when asked to comment on Israel's security cabinet's approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to establish military control over Gaza City.

“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and is an integral part of the Palestinian territory,” the official representative stressed, noting that an immediate ceasefire is the right way to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the release of detainees, as well as the key to a final settlement of the conflict in Gaza.

“This is the only way to end the conflict and ensure security in the region,” he said.

China is willing to work with the international community to end the fighting in Gaza at an early date, alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe, realize the principle of "two states for two peoples," and ultimately achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue, Guo Jiakun concluded. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — The final competition of the China-Kazakhstan Belt and Road and Nur Zholy Railway Border Crossing Skills Competition was held in Horgos, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Thursday, the Gongren Ribao (Workers' Daily) reported.

During the competition, a competition was organized in two disciplines – the formation of freight trains for international railway freight transportation China-Europe and the inspection of trains, in which a total of 360 employees from the Chinese stations of Khorgos and Alashankou, as well as from the Kazakh stations of Altynkol and Dostyk took part.

24 contestants who passed the first round of the competition were awarded first, second and third degree prizes based on the results of the final. Among the four railway stations, Khorgos and Altynkol also became winners.

According to a representative of KTZ-Freight Transportation LLC, their employees were actively preparing for the competition, during which participants from both sides learned from each other and exchanged experiences to improve their skills in order to ensure high efficiency of customs clearance at border crossings and the operation of China-Europe freight trains.

As of the end of July, the Alashankou and Khorgos railway checkpoints had handled 18.112 million tons of cargo this year, up 10.3 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, 10,241 China-Europe/China-Central Asia freight trains passed through the two checkpoints during the same period, up 11.6 percent year-on-year, ensuring the stability and smooth running of international supply chains. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — A total of 105,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables were exported to Mongolia through Ereenhot Port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the first seven months of 2025, up 17.9 percent year on year. The export value reached 196 million yuan (about 27.46 million U.S. dollars), according to data released on the website of the Ereenhot municipal government on Thursday.

More than 20 types of vegetables, such as cabbage, sweet pepper, broccoli, and over 10 types of fruits, including apples, watermelons and bananas, are supplied to the Mongolian market through the Erenhot checkpoint.

Since the opening of the “Green Corridor” for agricultural products between China and Mongolia in 2018, agricultural exports through the Erenhot checkpoint have been growing rapidly. At the same time, the range of vegetables supplied is increasing day by day, and the volume of fruit exports has increased significantly.

Ereen Customs has taken a series of measures to improve the efficiency of customs clearance, such as improving the control model, identifying the role of the interaction mechanism between customs and enterprises, and implementing intelligent control over loading and unloading. These measures have shortened the customs clearance time for agricultural products and reduced the customs inspection costs for enterprises. -0-

“We oppose using the South China Sea issue as a pretext to provoke confrontation and believe that military cooperation between relevant countries should not be directed against any third party and undermine regional peace and stability,” the official representative stressed.

He called on the Philippines to stop ganging up with other parties to stir up tensions in the South China Sea and return to the right path of resolving differences through dialogue and consultation. –0–
