KUWAIT CITY, October 10 (Xinhua) — Cultural diplomacy and the high importance of women are driving the steady progress in relations between Kuwait and China, and exchanges between women infuse the bilateral partnership with rich humanistic energy, Sheikha Al-Anoud Al-Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, a cultural expert, chairperson of the Kuwait-China Friendship Club, and member of the Kuwaiti royal family, said in an interview with Xinhua.
She has visited China several times over the past 10 years, visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Yinchuan and other cities.
Reflecting on the more than 50 years of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and China, she highlighted the contributions of pioneering women, including Lulwa Al-Qatami, founder of the Kuwait Women's Cultural and Social Society and the first director of the Women's College at Kuwait University.
L. al-Qatami visited China several times between the 1970s and 1990s, visiting Beijing, Inner Mongolia, and Yunnan. In the Middle East, women are becoming an increasingly important force for socioeconomic progress, the agency's source noted. "They play a fundamental role in family and education, and are also actively involved in public and private sectors," she said, adding that more and more women are entering traditionally male-dominated fields, such as politics, security, science, and medicine.
The head of the Kuwait-China Friendship Club also expressed deep concern over the plight of women and children in conflict zones, particularly in the Gaza Strip. She called for strengthened international coordination to ensure their protection and the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.

In recent years, Kuwait has established "Kuwait Women's Day" and appointed its first female judge, she said, while Chinese women have made outstanding contributions to science and the fight against the pandemic.
