WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) — The U.S. Senate on Monday evening passed a bill to keep the federal government funded until the end of January, ending the longest shutdown in history, now in its 41st day.

The bill passed with 60 votes in favor and 40 against. Eight Democrats supported the Republicans.

The approved bill allows funding for most federal agencies at current levels through January 30, and for the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Veterans Affairs, military construction, and congressional activities for the entire fiscal year.

MANILA, November 11 (Xinhua) — The death toll from two powerful storms that hit the Philippines in the past week has risen to 250, forcing millions of people to flee their homes.

Typhoon Kalmaegi, which struck the Philippines on November 4, triggered severe flooding and landslides in the central part of the country, leaving 232 people dead and 112 missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Tuesday.

Most of the victims lived in Cebu province, which is still reeling from the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck on September 30, the council said.

Also on Tuesday, the Office of Civil Defense said Super Typhoon Fung Wong, which struck Luzon island on Sunday, has killed at least 18 people.

Phnom Penh, November 11 (Xinhua) — Cambodia attracted a total of 889,089 Chinese tourists in the first nine months of 2025, up 46.3 percent year-on-year, according to a report from the Ministry of Tourism released Monday.

Of the 4.37 million international tourists who arrived in the kingdom in January-September this year, 20.3 percent were Chinese citizens.

This places China in third place in terms of tourist arrivals, surpassed by Thailand and Vietnam.

Turn Sinan, chairman of the Cambodian branch of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, said the increase in Chinese tourists indicates strong and growing interest from China.

"China's growing middle class, coupled with targeted marketing and expanded air travel routes, should further encourage Chinese tourists," he told Xinhua.

"However, maintaining this growth will depend on the sustainability of air travel, the simplification of the visa regime, and the continued attractiveness of Cambodia's tourism offerings to Chinese travelers," said T. Sinan.

He added that the 2025 Cambodia-China Tourism Year also gave further impetus to the influx of Chinese tourists to the kingdom.

Beijing, November 11 (Xinhua) — According to data from customs at Harbin Taiping International Airport, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, from January to October 2025, customs officers at the airport's checkpoint processed 507,000 passenger entries and exits, a 21.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
