Specialists from Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz (a joint venture between Rosneft and Gazprom Neft) were the first in Russia to develop a methodology and innovative equipment for diagnosing polymer-reinforced pipelines (PRP). This technology allows for inspecting the pipeline along its entire length without interrupting operation, identifying potential defects, and developing a maintenance plan.
Previously, diagnostics were performed by cutting out individual sections of the pipeline. The disadvantage of this method is that it requires shutting down the pipeline. The in-pipe diagnostics method developed by the company's specialists ensures the continuity of the production process and not only identifies localized pipeline issues but also provides predictive data on the condition of the reinforcing layer and external insulation.
The central element of the diagnostic equipment kit is a unique flaw detector that evaluates the pipeline's condition using ultrasonic waves. The waves penetrate the pipeline and, generating a mechanical pulse, reflect defects and transmit signals to the computer. Based on the interpretation of the received signals, the coordinates of the defective areas, their depth, and size are determined. Further pipeline maintenance activities are planned based on the data obtained.
Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz is one of the development platforms for the application of PAT technologies in Russia and their effective use in the development of oil and gas fields. The main advantages of PAT compared to steel pipelines are their mobility and ease of installation. This allows for the accelerated implementation of new projects in the oil and gas industry.
The new equipment has already been successfully tested at the Kuyumbinskoye field's production facilities. With the introduction of this new methodology, specialists expect improved pipeline safety and reduced environmental risks.
The safe operation of industrial facilities is a priority of the Rosneft-2030 strategy and a key objective for the Company across all areas of its operations. As the leader of the country's oil industry, Rosneft makes a significant contribution to the development of pipeline transportation.
