Beijing, November 20 (Xinhua) — Japan must remember that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and whatever happens to Taiwan is none of Japan's business, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular ministry press conference on Thursday.

Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks about the so-called "Taiwan emergency," many Chinese believe that Japan bears historical guilt over the Taiwan issue and is the party least competent to discuss Taiwan-related issues.

Asked by a journalist to comment on such Chinese opinions, Mao Ning recalled that Japan forcibly occupied Taiwan and established colonial rule there for half a century. The Japanese invaders committed countless crimes in Taiwan.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation, Mao Ning continued, adding that Japan must remember that Taiwan is Chinese Taiwan and that whatever happens to Taiwan is none of Japan's business.

"Using Taiwan to provoke problems will only bring trouble to Japan itself," she commented. -0-

HANGZHOU, November 20 (Xinhua) — The first train departed on Thursday on the Hangzhou-Quzhou high-speed railway, marking the start of its trial operation. The official launch of this first high-speed railway in China built using the PPP EPC (public-private partnership) model, which combines engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), is expected no earlier than the end of December 2025.

According to the plan, the test operation will take at least a month, which will allow for a comprehensive inspection of the railway tracks under conditions as close to real-life as possible, as well as the necessary data for the official commissioning of the East Siberian Railway.

The new railway connects the capital of Zhejiang Province (eastern China) with the city of Quzhou, located in the province's west. Its total length is 131 km, and the design speed of trains is 350 km/h. The EPC and project financing were handled by a consortium led by the Fourth Design and Survey Institute of China Railway Construction Corporation. The majority of the investment came from public capital.

The Hangzhou-Quzhou High-Siberian Railway runs through 38 tunnels and 119 bridges, accounting for 78.7 percent of the route. A 685-meter-long bridge was designated a critical construction project.

After its official launch, the Hangzhou-Quzhou High Speed Railway is expected to serve as a transportation artery and link between the Hangzhou Bay Economic Belt and the Jinhua-Quzhou-Lishui Economic Belt, thus playing an important role in ensuring the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta region. -0-

Moscow, November 20 (Xinhua) — Russia will build 38 nuclear power units over the next two decades to expand computing power for artificial intelligence (AI). Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this Wednesday while speaking at the 10th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIJ), which is taking place in Moscow from November 19 to 21.

"As for our long-term plans, in less than two decades, primarily in the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East, we plan to build 38 nuclear power units. Their total capacity will be almost equal to the entire nuclear power generation capacity currently in operation," he said.

Vladimir Putin emphasized that generating additional gigawatts of energy is crucial for the reliable operation of the entire growing digital infrastructure. "The most important, fundamental task is to ensure a constant, uniform, and reliable supply of significant amounts of energy to data centers," he added.

As the Russian President noted, plans for deploying AI data centers must be clearly linked to the further development of the entire national energy infrastructure, including advanced, modern, and environmentally friendly coal-fired power generation and other clean energy sources, including nuclear power. "The growing potential of domestic nuclear energy will allow us to consistently expand computing capacity for artificial intelligence," he assured.

SEOUL, November 20 (Xinhua) — All 267 people on board a ferry that ran aground off the west coast of the Republic of Korea (ROK) have been rescued on Wednesday, the country's coast guard announced.

The rescue operation concluded at 11:27 PM local time. Three people sustained minor injuries.

21 crew members remained on board, and the rescued passengers will be taken to the city of Mokpo in southwestern South Korea.

At around 8:17 p.m. local time, the coast guard received a report that the 26,546-ton ferry had run aground near an island in Sinan County, 310 kilometers southwest of Seoul.

The ferry was traveling from the resort island of Jeju to Mokpo. The vessel struck an underwater rock while approaching the island. According to the Renhap News Agency, a hole was discovered in the ferry's bow, but it did not sink.

Some passengers posted about the situation on social media in real time. They reported that the ship tilted with a loud thud, after which passengers were told to don life jackets and move to the upper deck.

The Coast Guard mobilized 17 patrol vessels, four rescue boats, one aircraft and a special rescue team.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, currently on a state visit to the United Arab Emirates, ordered a swift response to the disaster to ensure there are no casualties and to publicly report on the progress of rescue efforts in real time.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok ordered the coast guard and relevant authorities to immediately deploy all available vessels and equipment to quickly and safely rescue all passengers. –0–

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) — China on Thursday called on the Netherlands to quickly and effectively find an early solution to the issue involving semiconductor maker Nexperia and help restore the security and stability of global semiconductor production and supply chains, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yongqian said at a press conference on Thursday.

According to her, the source and responsibility for the current disruptions in the global semiconductor supply chain lies with the Dutch side.

He Yongqian noted that China welcomes the Dutch government's decision to suspend its administrative order against Nexperia. This is a first step in the right direction toward a proper resolution of the issue, she added.

However, there is still some way to go before the issue is finally resolved, and China hopes that the Dutch side will continue to show sincerity in cooperation and take practical steps to resolve the issue, the representative of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce emphasized. -0-
