Ankara, November 20 (Xinhua) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy here on Wednesday, emphasized the need to advance diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“It would be useful for the Istanbul process to resume in a comprehensive format capable of addressing the issues that are currently pressing,” R.T. Erdogan said at a joint press conference, calling for renewed international support for the initiative.

He reiterated that Turkey is ready to discuss with Russia “any proposals that could accelerate the ceasefire and pave the way for a just and lasting peace,” and called on all partners seeking to stop the bloodshed to take a constructive approach to resuming this process.

Russia and Ukraine held a third round of peace talks in Istanbul on July 23, 2025, agreeing to a prisoner exchange but making no progress in ending the conflict.

For his part, V. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine hopes to resume prisoner exchanges by the end of the year. "Turkey is providing strong support on this issue," he said, adding that Kyiv believes in "the strength of Turkish diplomacy and its ability to be understood in Moscow."
