LISBON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Portuguese exports to the United States fell 39.4 percent year-on-year in June amid expectations of tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, final data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed on Friday.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate as a fast-moving wildfire continues to rage in southern California amid intense heat.

The Canyon Fire broke out Thursday at about 1:25 p.m. local time near Piru, a small town in eastern Ventura County a few dozen miles northwest of Los Angeles. The fire quickly grew to about 7.5 square miles (19.4 square kilometers), according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).

The blaze, which is rapidly spreading eastward, has reached Los Angeles County, Cal Fire said. As of Friday morning, it was 25 percent contained, the county fire department said on social media.

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — The Gaza Strip is and must remain an integral part of the State of Palestine, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Friday.

"The Secretary-General is deeply alarmed by the Israeli government's decision to 'take control of Gaza City,'" said a statement released by the UN chief's deputy spokesperson, Stephanie Tremblay.

The statement said the decision represents a dangerous escalation of the conflict and threatens to worsen the already catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians and could put the lives of even more people, including the remaining hostages, at risk.

Palestinians in Gaza continue to experience a humanitarian catastrophe of horrific proportions, and Guterres warns that further escalation will lead to additional displacement, killings and widespread destruction, the statement said.

According to the text of the statement, the UN chief reiterated his urgent call for a permanent ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access throughout the Palestinian enclave, and the immediate release of all hostages without any preconditions.

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Beijing authorities on Friday announced they would lift restrictions on the purchase of commercial housing outside the city's Fifth Ring Road, the latest move to boost the local property market.

According to a circular issued on Friday, starting from Saturday, August 9, all restrictions on the number of houses purchased outside the Beijing Fifth Ring Road by families with local residence permits, as well as families without local residence permits but with proof of continuous social security or personal income tax payments in Beijing for at least two years, will be lifted.

At the same time, as specified in the document published by the Beijing Public Housing Fund Management Center jointly with the Beijing Committee on Housing, Urban and Rural Development, the same restrictions on purchasing housing apply to unmarried adult citizens who purchase commercial housing in Beijing as to families with local registration.
