MINSK, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Upholding historical justice is a common duty of Belarusians and Chinese, Sergei Vergeichik, an analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS), told Xinhua in Minsk.
The expert particularly noted that the Chinese people had gone through difficult trials in the fight against the aggression of Japanese militarists, but defended their freedom and independence.
"China was the first to bear the brunt of Japanese militarism and fascism. This is a historical fact. In the bloody war, China suffered heavy losses – in terms of the number of victims, it was a great tragedy. China made a huge contribution to the fight against the fascist coalition. Victory in World War II was achieved during the defeat of militaristic Japan on Chinese territory," noted S. Vergeichik and added that thanks to the strength of spirit, cohesion, unity, and desire for peace and justice, the Chinese people managed to defeat the Japanese aggressors.
He also noted that he studied in China and had personally visited many places associated with the aggression of Japanese militarists. “The Chinese government invests significant resources in preserving monuments, including those to Soviet soldiers, in a dignified form. This is a good reminder of the difficult and tragic past for us and the entire world,” S. Vergeichik emphasized.
In addition, the BISI analyst proudly noted that his grandfather took part in the liberation of northeastern China. “In 1945, as part of the Far Eastern Front, he participated in the liberation of China, friendly to the Soviet Union, and made his personal contribution. Through generations, I also proudly cooperate with Chinese partners. We establish constructive interaction and maintain friendship,” the Xinhua source said.
"The friendship between Belarus and China is traditionally all-weather, we can truly be called iron brothers. This brotherhood was forged, among other things, in 1945. Our duty – Belarusians and Chinese – is to defend historical justice together. For this justice, our grandfathers and fathers shed their blood, fought against world fascism and our duty is to prevent its revival," – summed up S. Vergeichik. -0-
