St. Petersburg, February 2 (Xinhua) — Russian police have disrupted the activities of an organized fraudulent group in the Leningrad Region. The regional press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this on Monday.

Law enforcement officers detained two Russian citizens in rented apartments in the city of Murino and the village of Novoye Devyatkino, who were closely collaborating with fraudulent call centers in Ukraine. A 20-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man operated "SIM boxes" that allowed calls from abroad while concealing their actual location. At least 5,000 fraudulent calls were processed daily through the communications center they set up. The suspects have been linked to 50 criminal cases opened in Russia.

Police seized two gateways, two laptops with specialized software, two routers, 19 phones containing correspondence and instructions from supervisors, more than 3,500 SIM cards, and seven bank cards. Criminal cases have been opened for fraud and illegal use of communications equipment.
