BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with a U.S. delegation led by Raj Subramaniam, chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council, in Beijing on Wednesday.

The parties exchanged views on issues of Chinese-American trade and economic relations, as well as on issues of developing enterprises with American capital in China.

Despite ups and downs, China and the United States remain important economic and trade partners for each other, Wang Wentao said. He stressed that severing ties and decoupling supply chains will not bring the desired result, and that equal dialogue and consultation are the key to resolving differences.

As Wang Wentao recalled, under the leadership of the heads of the two states, the countries reached consensus in the trade and economic sphere in Geneva and a framework agreement in London, and in recent days, the teams of the two sides held talks in Stockholm.

The Chinese Commerce Minister expressed hope that the United States will work with China to maintain stable, healthy and sustainable development of trade and economic relations.

Opening up is a fundamental national policy of China, and the country's doors will only open wider, Wang Wentao promised, adding that China's policy on using foreign investment has not changed and will not change.

He noted that China's consumer market remains one of the largest in the world, with huge growth potential and innovative vitality. The minister said China welcomes enterprises from all countries, including American-funded companies, to invest in China and share its development opportunities.

As R. Subramaniam noted in turn, the US-China Business Council is pleased to see that the trade and economic teams of the two countries are maintaining dialogue and achieving positive results.

China has sent a positive signal to the world that it will continue to deepen reforms and remain committed to opening up, and this has boosted market confidence, he said.

The US-China Business Council and its member companies are committed to long-term development in China and intend to play a constructive role in expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation, R. Subramaniam emphasized. –0–

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — China on Wednesday called on Japan to speed up the entire process of disposing of Japanese chemical weapons abandoned in China and restore a clean land for the Chinese people and justice for the international community as soon as possible.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun made the call at a daily ministry briefing in response to a reporter's question.

“The abandoned Japanese chemical weapons in China represent one of the most serious crimes committed by Japanese militarists during the war of conquest against China,” the diplomat said.

Guo Jiakun stressed that China has always called on Japan to completely and thoroughly destroy them as soon as possible in strict accordance with the Chemical Weapons Convention and the memorandum of understanding between the governments of the two countries. “To date, the Japanese side has removed about 160,000 units of abandoned chemical weapons from underground and destroyed nearly 130,000. However, the disposal process as a whole is seriously behind schedule,” the official said.

He recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and July 30 marks the 26th anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of China and Japan on the destruction of chemical weapons left by Japan on Chinese territory.

Guo Jiakun said that even today, abandoned Japanese chemical weapons continue to pose a serious threat to the safety of the lives and property of the Chinese people, as well as to the environment, and the Japanese side bears undeniable historical responsibility for this.

China calls on Japan to seriously respond to the concerns of China and the international community, deeply reflect on its history of aggression, strictly fulfill its obligations and effectively enhance its contribution in all aspects, the spokesperson said.

"Japan must do its utmost to speed up the entire process of disposing of abandoned chemical weapons so that the day will soon come when the Chinese people no longer have to live in a land desecrated by chemical weapons and justice will be restored to the international community," Guo Jiakun added. -0-

Tbilisi, July 30 /Xinhua/ — The National Bank of Georgia (Central Bank) has revised upward its economic growth forecast for 2025 from 6.7 percent to 7.4 percent. The new forecast also exceeds the figure set in the state budget, where economic growth for 2025 is estimated at 6 percent, the National Bank of Georgia reported on Wednesday.

According to the regulator's statement, the key factors in the forecast increase were high economic activity and improved production potential, which helps to neutralize inflationary pressure caused by stable domestic demand.

According to preliminary data, economic growth in Georgia amounted to 8.8 percent in the period from January to May 2025, which significantly exceeds the annual average.

In addition, the National Bank predicts that in 2025 the average inflation in the country will be 3.8 percent. The decision of the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee indicates that this year the inflation target will remain above 3 percent, although in the future it is expected to approach 3 percent.

On Wednesday, the National Bank of Georgia decided to keep the refinancing rate at 8 percent. The regulator noted that keeping the rate unchanged is advisable against the backdrop of inflation rising to 4 percent in June. –0–

NEW YORK, July 30 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Indian goods exported to the United States will be subject to a 25 percent tariff starting Aug. 1, the American leader said in a post on the Truth Social social network.

According to D. Trump, although India is “our friend,” the United States does “relatively little business with it because their tariffs are too high.” The American president added that India has “the most onerous and obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers of any country.”

The head of the White House also noted that India “has always purchased the vast majority of military equipment from Russia and is the largest buyer of Russian energy resources.”

Therefore, he announced, starting from August 1, India will pay 25 percent customs duties and “a penalty for the above.”

U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer told CNBC on July 28 that the United States needs more time to negotiate with India to assess the country's readiness to open its market more to American goods.

Any tariff rate of 20 percent or more would be a disappointment to India, which had sought better terms than the 19 percent Trump offered Indonesia and the Philippines, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. –0–

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang on Wednesday called on relevant countries to exercise utmost caution when handling Taiwan-related issues.

Zhang Xiaogang made the statement in response to recent reports that the United States did not allow Taiwanese leader Lai Qingde to make a planned “transit stop” in New York during his trip to Latin America.

Zhang Xiaogang stressed that China firmly opposes any form of official interaction between any country and the Chinese region of Taiwan.

"We urge the United States to strictly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, handle Taiwan-related issues with the utmost caution, and make joint efforts to promote the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-US relations," the spokesman said.

Commenting on reports that the US sent several active and retired military personnel as observers to the so-called Hanguang 41 exercises in Taiwan, Zhang Xiaogang stressed that the Taiwan issue is an exclusively internal affair of China that does not allow any external interference.

He noted that China is firmly opposed to any form of collusion between the United States and Taiwan in the military sphere.

The spokesman also warned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party administration that any attempt to secure American support for its push for "Taiwan independence" and resist Chinese reunification by force was doomed to failure. -0-
