ALMATY, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — Cooperation between China and Kazakhstan provides favorable conditions for the development of the Middle Corridor and the attraction of additional transit and foreign trade cargo, Acting Executive Director for Commercial Affairs of the Aktau Sea Trade Port Anuar Nemyshov said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.

He said that the Aktau port receives container cargo transported from China to Europe. From the Kazakh-Chinese logistics terminal in the city of Xi'an, container trains are formed and sent in an organized manner along the East-West corridor in the direction of the Aktau port.

He noted that the structure of trade turnover between China and the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has not changed in recent years. Consumer goods (CG) remain the main volume of cargo transported in containers.

Speaking about the work of the Aktau port, A. Nemyshov shared that the main range of cargo handled at the port is oil and oil products, grain crops, metal, containers and other cargo.

"Based on the cargo handling figures for the period from January to July of this year, the monthly cargo turnover at the Aktau port averages 450 thousand tons. Based on the port's performance for the first 7 months of 2025, the total cargo handling amounted to 3,144 thousand tons, which is 14 percent more than the figure for the same period in 2024 /2,756 thousand tons/," he said.

He also noted that in 2024, the Aktau port attracted a new cargo – chemical products /mineral fertilizers – ammonium nitrate/ of local production, the transshipment volume of which amounted to 60 thousand tons at the end of the year.

A. Nemyshov also said that the governments of China and Kazakhstan reached an agreement on the creation of a comprehensive logistics network on the territory of Kazakhstan, including through investment in the construction of a container hub in the port of Aktau.

“The project “Construction of a container hub based on the Aktau port” is currently being implemented. The project is being implemented on the territory of the special economic zone “Aktau Seaport” with a length of 19.2 hectares. The cost of the project is 46.6 billion tenge /about 86.5 million US dollars/,” he shared.

He also noted that the project is planned to be implemented in two stages. The first stage was completed with the commissioning of the first launch complex on June 9, 2025. The second stage will be completed by December 31, 2026.

“The total capacity of the container hub is 240 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year,” added A. Nemyshov.

He also shared that on November 25, 2024, a joint venture “Aktau International Container Hub” was registered with the participation of companies from China and Kazakhstan.

JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday received a briefing from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

On Friday, V. Putin and D. Trump concluded their meeting in Anchorage in the US state of Alaska.

"President Putin expressed satisfaction with the way his talks with President Trump went and the emerging agreement on the peace process," the South African president said in a statement.

In the height of summer, Xizang welcomes a steady stream of tourists with cloudless, azure skies. On the shores of Namtso Lake, located more than 4,700 meters above sea level, a 26-year-old Xizang resident named Sga helps tourists take photos while riding yaks.

Namtso means "heavenly lake" in Tibetan. Sga is a resident of Namtso village, which is located in Damshung County, Lhasa. After graduating from university, he returned to his home village and now earns more than 9,000 yuan a month. WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, along with seven European leaders, held multilateral talks at the White House on Monday, focusing on resolving the Ukraine conflict.

"Photographing veterans is a race against time"

Qi Hui, 55, is an employee of China Unicom's Tangshan branch in Hebei Province. He is also a photography enthusiast. In his spare time, he searches for veterans of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and takes portraits for them. He initiated a charity photo project to support veterans of the 8th Army in Jidong (now including Qinhuangdao, Tangshan and Cangzhou), creating the Tangshan Volunteer Photo Group of 40 people.

YEREVAN, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Armenia on Monday for a two-day official visit. He and his delegation were met by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport.
