BERLIN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Friday that Germany will suspend all exports of military equipment that could be used in the Gaza Strip.

GUANGZHOU, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Seven people have been killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, the provincial emergency management department said Friday.

The landslide occurred at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, damaging some houses in Dayuan Village in the city's Baiyun District and trapping a total of 14 people, the department said.

Search and rescue operations have been completed. The remaining seven people were injured and taken to hospital; their injuries are not life-threatening. Three of them have already been discharged from the hospital, the department reported.

Clearance work is ongoing at the site, and potential geological hazards in the affected area and surrounding areas are being assessed. Residential buildings will also be inspected and assessed for safety for subsequent recovery efforts. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — An event dedicated to intangible cultural heritage (ICH) exchanges between China and Russia was held in Manzhouli City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on Friday.

As reported by the Internet portal Sohu.com with reference to the Committee for the Development of Tourism of the City of Manzhouli, the folk art group of the Trans-Baikal Territory of Russia opened the event by playing traditional instruments – the button accordion, balalaika and wooden spoons.

The ICH bearers and artists of Manzhouli City masterfully presented the intangible heritage objects – Daur folk songs /the Daur are one of the few national minorities living in China/ and morin khuur music /a Mongolian national musical instrument/, bringing the atmosphere of the event to a festive climax.

The virtuoso performance of the artists of the two countries sounded like a solemn symphony of the cultures of the NCN, giving the audience a musical celebration where traditions were intertwined with modernity.

During his visit to India, the Philippine leader reportedly said in an interview that if there is a standoff between China and the US over the Taiwan issue, the Philippines cannot stay away due to its geographical location. If a full-scale war breaks out (in the Taiwan Strait), the Philippines will inevitably be involved.

The Philippine leader also said that there are a large number of Filipinos living on the island of Taiwan. If a conflict breaks out, the Philippines will have to intervene to get its citizens back.
