What information about yourself should you avoid sharing, and what steps should you take to ensure your online safety? On International Data Protection Day, celebrated annually on January 28, project experts Call me back yourself We reminded you of simple rules of digital hygiene that will help protect you from cybercriminals.

"Seemingly harmless actions can lead to loss of access to website accounts, financial losses, and reputational risks if personal accounts on messengers and social media are hacked. Users often enter their personal information on dubious resources or publish personal data publicly. This allows attackers to use this information to hack accounts on various resources, employ social engineering to convince users to transfer money or perform certain actions. Furthermore, fraudsters can take out a loan or microloan using passport information, send messages with phishing links from hacked accounts, blackmail victims, and much more," said Valentina Shilina, head of the "Call Me Back" project at the Moscow branch of the Internet Security Service.

Department of Information Technology.

Personal data is information that identifies a person. In other words, it's information that directly or indirectly relates to a specific individual: full name, date and place of birth, address, passport details, diploma details, and other official documents, phone number, email address, and other contact information, photos, videos, voice recordings, fingerprints, account logins and passwords, PIN codes, website browsing history (cookies), and much more. This information, especially when combined, allows attackers to create a detailed profile of a person, so it should not be published publicly, shared with strangers, or transferred to third parties. For example, a leak of passport data or the transfer of access to bank accounts can lead to financial losses: loans, microloans, and savings are transferred to third-party accounts in the victim's name.

Information about a person's birthplace, education, or numerous publicly available photographs on social media may seem harmless. However, by collecting bits of data about a potential victim from open sources, attackers can build a profile of the individual, which can be useful in carrying out their fraudulent scheme. This makes it easier for them to establish trust, pretend to be an acquaintance or representative of an official organization, guess passwords to accounts, and use various psychological tricks to extort information or money based on the obtained information. Furthermore, when a social media or messaging account is hacked, publicly available photos, videos, and audio materials can be used to create a deepfake—a generated video or voice message sent to the victim's contacts, asking them to transfer money or perform certain actions on an unfamiliar website. As a result, the number of victims increases, and the user suffers not only financial losses but also reputational damage.

However, this doesn't mean you should delete all photos and personal posts from your social media pages. Security is built differently. To protect your personal data from leaks, you should follow a number of rules. For example, it's important to set unique and complex passwords wherever possible—long combinations of numbers, symbols, and uppercase and lowercase letters. Popular passwords, such as a phone number, date of birth, your first and last name, the word "password," or a sequential combination of numbers or letters, are unsuitable: they are too easy to crack. Passwords should be updated regularly in case of information leakage or hacking of the resource itself.

It's important to keep your devices' apps and operating systems up to date: developers create and strengthen internal security tools, implement technical updates to data encryption to protect their users, and anticipate new fraudulent schemes. Furthermore, it's important to set up two-factor authentication in apps, messaging apps, government accounts, social media, and other resources to reduce the risk of hacking.

If a user plans to change their phone number, they should first unlink it from all accounts: government and city service websites, banks, marketplaces, and messaging apps. This will reduce the risk of hacking and financial and reputational losses.

On social media and messaging apps, it's important to configure settings that control who can access your personal information and published content. Additionally, in messaging apps, it's a good idea to limit who can send messages to, for example, only those in your contact list. Settings include an option to disable automatic downloads of media, including photos, documents, videos, and other file types. This will prevent you from accidentally downloading and running malware.

Experts recommend installing a reliable antivirus on your devices. This will not only block the installation of malware but also report suspicious links and scan information received in messages.

You should be especially careful and vigilant with messages and calls received from unknown numbers: do not click links, and verify the resource and information. Banks, government agencies, mobile operators, and other reputable organizations do not send important notifications via messaging apps without prior approval from the office, do not call from unknown mobile numbers, and do not rush decisions. If someone asks you to provide a password from an SMS or update confidential information, it's a scam. In any unclear situation, it's best to pause the conversation and double-check by calling the organization's official number listed on the company's website or in the app.

As the studio lights come on, dancers in costumes reminiscent of the Tang Dynasty (618–907) gracefully appear on camera to the sound of traditional Chinese music. At the Shaanxi Song and Dance Theater, a new collaborative livestreaming format—"group streaming"—is becoming a new way for professional performing groups to create a "second stage" in the online space and promote innovative forms of traditional cultural expression.

In recent years, the Shaanxi Song and Dance Theater has collaborated with short video platforms, actively developing "group streaming." The company adapts classic excerpts from offline productions, making them more dynamic and convenient for mobile viewing, encouraging artists to participate in the creation, rehearsals, broadcasting, and promotion of these streams during their free time.

Today, the maximum number of views for a single live broadcast by the Shaanxi Song and Dance Theater exceeds 5 million, and the "group streaming" format has contributed to a roughly 10% increase in offline ticket sales. Thanks to the artists' innovative performances, the graceful movement of classical music and dance, as well as the aesthetics of traditional art, are winning the hearts of an ever-increasing number of young viewers. On the evening of January 23, the 32nd Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival opened at the Great World of Colored Lanterns Park in Zigong. Eleven large and over 200 medium and small installations lit up the night sky. In 2025, Zigong's colored lanterns traveled abroad and gained immense popularity worldwide. A total of 112 Zigong colored lantern projects were held in 85 cities in 19 countries, including the United States, France, and the Netherlands, accounting for 92% of the global market.

From the Winter Lantern Festival in Houston, USA, to the festive lantern display in Singapore's Chinatown and the Lantern Carnival in Kuwait, lanterns from the small city of Zigong in southern Sichuan Province, China, have now been lit in more than 500 cities across 80 countries and regions, conveying the spirit of Chinese New Year.

Zigong has had a tradition of making colored lanterns since ancient times. In 1964, Zigong held its first lantern festival for the Spring Festival, where people used "new and unusual materials" according to their crafts, such as glass medicine bottles, silkworm cocoons, plastic bottles, dried chili peppers, lantern shades, and so on. "In Zigong, anything can become a lantern," said 60-year-old Liu Juncai, a member of a group preserving the Zigong lantern-making technique, a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage. This year's exhibition, "Intangible Heritage of Craftsmanship," is themed "Shan Hai Jing" (Catalogue of Mountains and Seas), and its core idea is an in-depth exploration of materials.

Prince, a Zimbabwean student studying in China, was amazed at the lantern festival and exclaimed, "I saw the most beautiful lanterns in the world here! The Zigong Lantern Festival is like magic, it's simply incredible!"

The "Musical Robot" installation is a particular highlight at the Zigong International Lantern Festival. Its design is based on a drawing by an 8-year-old British boy, Jaden. The colorful lanterns were inspired by 6,000 drawings by children from over 40 countries. From a mechanical horse galloping through colorful clouds to a panda traveling through space, the most incredible imaginations blossom in a sea of lanterns.

In 1990, Zigong lanterns first traveled abroad and were exhibited in Singapore. Now, with the approach of Chinese New Year (Year of the Horse), a colorful lantern composition, "Eight Steeds," inspired by the ancient Chinese painting "Eight Famous Steeds," shines in the Marina Bay Gardens in Singapore. This installation, full of vitality and dynamism, is also the work of artisans from Zigong, Sichuan Province.

"In recent years, traditional Chinese elements have become increasingly popular abroad," says Liu Juncai. This May, a themed composition, "Shan Hai Jing," created by his team for a foreign client, will be unveiled in the UAE. Preparations are currently in full swing.

From a single lantern to a whole garland, from one city to a global stage. Zigong's colorful lanterns not only embody a modern expression of traditional culture but also serve as a link between Chinese stories and global perspectives. Felix, an 8-year-old British boy, shared, "I love the Chinese dragon; the combination of dinosaurs and lanterns is amazing. I want every child to be able to come here and experience these magical stories."

The new zone is located in the university's academic building, in Block 1 on the ground floor. Its opening is timed to coincide with the university's 25th anniversary. Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) NSU, which FIT celebrated in 2025.

Lyudmila Megaeva, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Information Technologies for Educational and Extracurricular Activities, notes that the faculty had long considered the idea of creating its own brand zone. First and foremost, it was important to visually identify the faculty. The design project was to be carried out in a contemporary style, using natural materials and signature color accents. Design KUB successfully accomplished this task, proposing a design for an information and image zone that would reflect the faculty's activities.

"Developing the project was painstaking, but rewarding. I'd like to extend special thanks for their support to our partners—Postgres Professional, CFT, True Engineering, Kontur, and YADRO—without whom this project would not have been possible. We collaborate fruitfully across a variety of areas, implementing educational projects, opening joint research and development labs, and offering paid internships. This entire range of activities enables students to acquire a high level of professional competencies for the IT industry," commented Lyudmila Megaeva.

Adjacent to the brand zone is a creative wall featuring student drawings dedicated to the Faculty of Information Technology, its academic process, holidays, and events. All works are created as part of English classes. Thus, the new space unites the history of the faculty, student life, and creativity.

"I love that we have a place like this. It's not just an information corner—it's a space where every FIT student can feel like they belong here. Come in, take a look, and be inspired!" says third-year FIT student Matvey Artemyev.

The new presentation area for the Faculty of Information Technology is a place to meet outstanding faculty, alumni, students, and key partners, as well as showcase FIT's achievements to guests. After all, in its relatively short history, the faculty has much to be proud of and to share.

On January 25, the Chongqing Municipal Port and Logistics Bureau reported that the number of China-Europe container train departures (from the Chengdu-Chongqing region) in 2025 exceeded 5,000. This region has ranked first in the country in terms of shipment volume for the fifth consecutive year.

The China-Europe (Chengdu-Chongqing) train service is the country's first China-Europe train brand, created through interregional cooperation. As part of the national development strategy for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Belt, in 2021 the two cities established a unified brand, "China-Europe (Chengdu-Chongqing) Train," and successfully established a mechanism for regular communication and coordination between governments and operating platforms.

Over the past five years, the total number of China-Europe (Chengdu-Chongqing) rail container trains has exceeded 26,000, with more than 50 routes serving over 130 cities in Europe and Asia. This has transformed China-Europe rail container trains from a simple logistics channel into a key economic driver, stimulating industrial integration and upgrading in the Chengdu-Chongqing region, improving the quality and development of the "transport corridor economy."

Beijing, January 27 (Xinhua) — China intends to sign trade and investment cooperation agreements with the United Kingdom during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's upcoming visit to China, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday.

As the agency stated in its statement, these final documents will help create new growth points in bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

"China attaches great importance to trade and economic cooperation with the UK and is actively working with the British side to prepare the trade and economic outcomes of the visit, as well as the meeting between Chinese and British entrepreneurs," the statement said.

The Ministry of Commerce added that Chinese and British businesses are showing increased interest in the planned meeting, with more than 100 companies currently registered to participate.

As the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced earlier on Tuesday, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will pay an official visit to China from January 28 to 31.

According to reports, Starmer will lead a delegation comprising the heads of over 50 major British companies and representatives of British institutions. According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, they represent leading UK sectors, including finance, healthcare, manufacturing, culture, and creative industries, fully demonstrating the UK's sincere hopes for deepening trade and economic relations with China.

Under the strategic guidance of the two countries' leaders, trade and economic relations between China and the UK have maintained healthy and stable development for a long time. According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bilateral trade in goods will reach $103.7 billion in 2025, while bilateral trade in services is expected to exceed $30 billion. Meanwhile, cumulative bilateral investment is approaching $68 billion.

The Ministry of Commerce's statement emphasizes that, amid rising global trade protectionism, China and the United Kingdom support free trade and defend the multilateral trading system. It notes that the two sides will remain committed to trade and economic cooperation characterized by complementary advantages, mutual benefit, and win-win outcomes. They will promote the coordinated development of trade in goods and services, pursue investment cooperation in both directions, and expand collaboration in sectors such as green energy, medicine, healthcare, creative industries, and intelligent manufacturing.

"The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stands ready to work with the UK trade and economic authorities to implement the important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen communication on trade and economic policy, create a fair, transparent, and law-based business environment for cooperation between enterprises on both sides, and promote the continuous advancement of trade and economic relations between China and the UK to new heights," the statement said.

Recently, the General Administration of Customs of China released its latest statistics, according to which China's foreign trade volume will once again reach its all-time high in 2025, marking its ninth consecutive year of positive growth. This also marks the longest period of uninterrupted growth since China's accession to the WTO.

The achievements achieved are due to China's perfect industrial system, the advantages of a super-scale market, and a constantly optimized business environment, which fully demonstrates the strategic resilience and strong ability of the Chinese economy to withstand risks.

In terms of scale, China's total foreign trade volume in 2025 amounted to 45.47 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.8% year-on-year. In terms of trends, a clear recovery was evident in the second half of the year—imports have maintained year-on-year growth for seven consecutive months since June.

Globally, China maintains trade ties with over 240 countries and regions, with imports and exports growing in over 190 countries and regions. In particular, trade with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative amounted to 23.6 trillion yuan, and its share of China's total foreign trade increased to 51.9%.

A prudent increase in quantity is underpinned by an effective improvement in quality. High-tech exports totaled 5.25 trillion yuan, an increase of 13.2%. Industrial robot exports exceeded imports for the first time in history, while exports of specialized equipment and high-precision machine tools grew by over 20%. Green energy exports are accelerating: China's intelligent manufacturing is providing the global community with high-quality solutions for green transformation.

Enterprise competitiveness continues to strengthen. Private enterprises account for 57.3% of foreign trade. At the same time, the import structure is also being optimized: annual imports of machinery and electronics products amounted to 7.41 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.7%.

China's development opens opportunities for the entire world. In 2025, China's import volume reached 18.48 trillion yuan. For 17 consecutive years, China has maintained its status as the world's second-largest import market, creating vast opportunities for businesses worldwide.

From energy resources to high-tech components and parts, from high-quality consumer goods to advanced technical services, China's massive market is continually unleashing its import potential. Accounting for approximately 10% of global annual imports, China has become an important "stabilizing point" for global trade.

More importantly, China's deep integration into global industrial chains and rapid growth of trade in intermediate products have provided strong support for international industrial cooperation.

China opposes "decoupling and decoupling" and consistently promotes high-level openness. The overall tariff level has been reduced to 7.3%; the strategy for developing pilot free trade zones is being actively deepened, and institutional openness is steadily strengthening.

UN experts: US immigration policy violates children's rights

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

January 27, 2026 Human rights

UN-appointed independent human rights experts have stated that the United States is "gravely violating" children's rights in its immigration policies. They say thousands of minors are being detained without access to lawyers.

The State's responsibility to protect children

Experts recalled that, according to a law passed in 2008, US authorities are responsible for the proper care of unaccompanied minors arriving in the country. The law requires children to be protected from abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking. It guarantees their right to legal assistance and prohibits expedited removal—deportation without a court hearing.

Legal assistance has been terminated.

However, as experts noted, on February 18, 2025, the US Department of the Interior ordered the suspension of non-profit legal services and terminated funding for attorneys representing minor migrants. This decision is still being challenged in the courts, but many of the 26,000 such children have already lost legal support and face forced removal.

Children are reportedly held in windowless cells, are not always provided with adequate medical care, and are separated from their parents or guardians for months. Between January and August 2025, the average length of detention increased from approximately one month to six, while the number of placements of children into the care of relatives decreased by more than half, from approximately 95 percent to 45 percent.

Pressure and payments for self-deportation

“There are numerous reports of unaccompanied minors being illegally deported in violation of the principle of non-refoulement, including cases of children who are victims of human trafficking or at risk of trafficking,” the independent experts said.

The children are also reportedly being offered a choice: either accept a $2,500 payment to leave the country voluntarily or face indefinite detention and subsequent transfer to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after reaching age 18.

The experts emphasized that children must have access to administrative and judicial mechanisms for protection against decisions affecting their own situation or that of their parents and guardians. They also called for avoiding unnecessary procedural delays that could undermine the rights of the child.

"Expedited procedures are only permissible in cases where they are in the best interests of the child and do not undermine due process guarantees," the experts noted.

Special Rapporteurs

The three special rapporteurs who signed the statement were appointed by the UN Human Rights Council. Their work covers issues of human trafficking, migrants' rights, and the independence of judges and lawyers. They are not UN staff and do not receive a salary from the organization for their work.
