Moscow, February 4 (Xinhua) — Under the current circumstances, Russia believes that the parties to the Russian-American Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START) are no longer bound by any obligations or symmetrical declarations within the context of the Treaty, including its central provisions, and are fundamentally free to choose their next steps. This was stated in a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website on Wednesday.

As noted, on September 22, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin put forward an initiative for the parties to the New START to undertake voluntary self-restrictions on compliance with the Treaty's "ceilings" at the level of relevant weapons for at least one year after the termination of the said agreement.

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to work with U.S. President Donald Trump to steer the giant ship of China-U.S. relations through storms and waves, ensuring its smooth sailing in the new year and accomplishing more great and good deeds.

During a phone call with Donald Trump, Xi Jinping noted that he places particular emphasis on Sino-American relations. He recalled that last year, the two leaders maintained healthy communication and held a successful meeting in Busan, South Korea, setting the direction and course for Sino-American relations, which received a positive response in both countries and the international community.

Yerevan, February 4 (Xinhua) — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, the Armenian prime minister's press service reported.

The leaders of the two countries welcomed the progress in implementing the agreements reached last August at the Washington Peace Summit. They emphasized the importance of maintaining and advancing the positive momentum in the bilateral settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.

Beijing, February 4 (Xinhua) – 82 percent of young Europeans have a positive view of China, with 19 percent rating it “very” positive, according to a survey published Wednesday.

The survey, "China in the Eyes of European Youth," surveyed 19,025 Europeans aged 18 to 35 from 36 countries. The survey was conducted by the France-based research company CSA Research on behalf of the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CAS) and the China-Central and Eastern Europe Institute.

According to the survey results, China's image is most positive in Southeastern Europe and the Balkans, as well as in Spain and the UK.

63 percent of respondents are optimistic about the future of China-EU relations, and this optimism is based on trade and interdependence.

The young people surveyed identified trade and economic cooperation and scientific and technological innovation as the main priorities in future cooperation between China and Europe.

The study also revealed the consumer preferences of young Europeans. A total of 40 percent of respondents said they would choose Chinese goods if given the choice, with this figure being higher among respondents from Eastern Europe.

Of respondents who had visited China, 61 percent said they "always or often" prefer Chinese products. Among those who frequently encounter Chinese culture, this figure rises to 74 percent.

The survey showed that electronics, technology, toys, computer games, textiles and clothing from China are particularly popular among European youth.

Most respondents said they see China as closely connected to their daily lives and are generally optimistic about the future of Sino-European cooperation. According to Feng Zhongping, Director of the Institute of European Studies at the Association of Social and Cultural Organizations (ASOC), this provides an important social foundation for the development of Sino-European relations.
