WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine is not a prerequisite for his face-to-face talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders during Trump's second term.

TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) over the ongoing humanitarian "catastrophe" in the Gaza Strip, the country's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

According to the department’s statement, the meeting should discuss issues of coordinating the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, adopting a unified position and practical measures to stop “Israeli aggression,” as well as the importance of protecting the rights of the Palestinian people.

JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Israel's security cabinet has approved a plan to take control of Gaza City, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said on Friday.

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Less than 17 percent of the $46 billion needed to meet global humanitarian needs in 2025 has been received so far, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq said at a daily briefing on Thursday.

“More than half a year has passed, and the situation with funding for humanitarian activities remains deplorable,” said F. Haq, citing data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

BEIRUT, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Six people were killed and 10 others were wounded in two separate Israeli airstrikes in eastern Lebanon on Thursday, Lebanese officials said.

The Lebanese Health Ministry's Emergency Operations Center said in a press release that one Israeli airstrike on Masnaa Road killed five people and wounded 10 others. Another airstrike on the town of Kfardan (Baalbek region) killed another person.

Lebanon's cabinet approved the goals outlined in a U.S. proposal to disarm Hezbollah at a meeting on Thursday, the country's National News Agency reported.
