DHAKA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — At least 16 people were killed in a fire that broke out at a garment factory and a chemical warehouse in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.

According to local media reports, the two buildings are located next to each other, opposite the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology.

"The bodies of 12 victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery," Talha Bin Jashim, a spokesperson for the Dhaka Fire Department headquarters, told Xinhua.

At least 12 fire crews arrived at the scene around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday to put out the fire.

The service spokesman added that the fire at the seven-story garment factory, which started on the third floor, had been mostly extinguished.

However, he said firefighters continue to work to completely extinguish the fire at the chemical warehouse, which contained hazardous materials including bleach, plastic and hydrogen peroxide.

St. Petersburg, October 14 (Xinhua) — The first transit container voyage from China to Europe via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) arrived at the British port of Felixstowe, the press service of the Russian corporation Rosatom reported on Tuesday.
