SHANGHAI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) — Panasonic unveiled an intelligent washing machine that automatically recognizes fabric types, analyzes stains, optimizes washing parameters, and can be controlled by voice at the ongoing China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

"This machine embodies our vision of smart living. Many of our cutting-edge products are designed, manufactured, and first launched in China," said Tetsuro Homma, Executive Vice President of Panasonic Holdings Corporation and Managing Director of China and Northeast Asia, at the 8th China International Import Expo, which runs from November 5 to 10.

This year's exhibition brought together 290 Fortune Global 500 companies and other leading industry players showcasing their latest innovations. As the world's second-largest import market, China's strong openness and commitment to high-quality development are fueling global demand and bolstering the confidence of multinational corporations.

Tetsuro Homma noted that their products are developed with the needs of China's broad consumer base in mind.

“Leveraging China’s rapid advancement in AI, we have deployed DeepSeek and our local AI models to create devices that support smarter and healthier lifestyles,” he said.

As evidence of this bilateral partnership, Panasonic employs 50,000 people in China, 10,000 of whom are engineers. The company's 60 Chinese subsidiaries account for 30 percent of its global revenue.

On November 4, American materials science giant Dow opened a cooling research and development studio in Shanghai, aiming to meet the growing needs of emerging industries in the Chinese market, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and automation.

Dow, which is participating in CIIE for the eighth time, will showcase a number of new products at the 2025 Expo, including an immersion cooling fluid designed to ensure high performance and energy efficiency in data centers.

“As China strives for high-quality development, the country needs more innovative and high-performance materials, and that’s what we’re showcasing here,” said Brandy Lange, president of Dow Performance Materials.

Last month, China released proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for the country's socio-economic development, which outlines further measures to expand voluntary and unilateral opening-up.

Executives from foreign companies, including Danish pharmaceutical firm Novo Nordisk, told Xinhua that they are closely studying the proposals to develop the plan.

“The document places an emphasis on the prevention and control of chronic diseases, which will benefit the Chinese people and is in line with our commitment to protecting public health,” said Zhou Xiaping, senior vice president of Novo Nordisk and president of Novo Nordisk China.

"At previous CIIEs, many of our products were presented as research papers or exhibits. Now, the exhibition has become a platform for presenting new products in China," she said. Since entering the Chinese market 31 years ago, Novo Nordisk has introduced 22 innovative products and 11 innovative injectable devices for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and rare diseases.

Over the past seven years, CIIE has cumulatively raised over US$500 billion in planned transactions and helped more than 1,100 foreign enterprises and investment promotion agencies conduct targeted matchmaking activities across China, connecting new products, technologies, and services with the growing needs of China's 1.4 billion consumers.

Wang Xuekun, director of the Hongqiao Research Center at the International Economic Forum, said the interaction between global enterprises and China embodies the principle of win-win cooperation.

"China's high-quality development opens up new opportunities for the world by stimulating market demand and attracting investment, allowing multinational corporations to reap significant profits while participating in the country's modernization," he said.

Over the past five years, China's foreign direct investment rate has remained around 9 percent, one of the highest in the world. -0-

BEIJING, November 9 (Xinhua) — China's producer price index (PPI) decline continued to slow in October 2025.

The PPI, a measure of wholesale producer price changes, fell 2.1 percent year-on-year in October, down from 2.3 percent in September, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported on Sunday. This slowing trend has been observed for three consecutive months.

National Statistical Service statistician Dong Lijuan explained this by regulating the production potential of key industries, intensifying efforts to form a modernized industrial system, and unlocking consumer potential.

In monthly terms, the PPI rose by 0.1 percent in October, marking the first increase since the beginning of 2025.

As Dong Lijuan noted, in October, the improved supply-demand balance led to price increases in some sectors, such as coal mining and beneficiation. Furthermore, the change in global prices affected pricing in some domestic sectors.

Thus, in October, rising global prices for non-ferrous metals led to prices in China's mining and processing industry rising compared to the previous month, while falling global oil prices led to lower prices in the domestic oil and gas sector, the expert said.

China's consumer price index, the main measure of inflation, rose 0.2 percent year-on-year in October, official data showed. -0-

Minsk, November 9 (Xinhua) — Belarus's participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a direct demonstration of its commitment to increasing exports to China, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said in an interview with BelTA.

According to him, the participation of Belarusian enterprises in Chinese exhibitions is an integral part of the strategy to promote Belarusian exports and strengthen the position of the "Made in Belarus" brand.

"The China International Import Expo in Shanghai remains a key multi-industry exhibition. Belarus regularly presents a national pavilion at the CIIE. In recent years, the Belarusian exhibit has seen significant growth: from traditional food products (dairy, meat, and confectionery), the Belarusian side is shifting to high-tech products, including electronics, automotive components, and IT products," noted S. Lukashevich.

"Belarus' participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a direct demonstration of our commitment to increasing exports to China," said the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

S. Lukashevich stated that the China-Eurasia Expo in Urumqi is also an important gateway for Belarusian goods to western China and Central Asia. The Guangzhou/Canton Fair attracts Belarusian manufacturers of industrial goods, equipment, and consumer goods. The SIAL exhibition is of great importance for Belarusian agro-industrial enterprises.

"I would like to emphasize that the participation of Belarusian companies in Chinese exhibitions is systematic, large-scale, and qualitatively growing. We are seeing an evolution from the presentation of raw materials to the promotion of high-tech products with added value," noted the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

He also noted that Belarus and China are demonstrating to the world an example of genuine, open and effective cooperation.

"As Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly emphasized, China is our key political and economic partner. We see enormous potential in the Belt and Road Initiative for integrating the Belarusian economy into global supply chains, and the Chinese market, with its nearly 1.5 billion people, is of enormous interest to us," Lukashevich concluded.

Washington, November 9 (Xinhua) — Americans are largely dissatisfied with both political parties, viewing them as too radical and not governing fairly enough, according to a new Pew Research Center poll conducted ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

According to a poll of 3,445 American adults conducted in late September, only 39 percent of respondents believe the Republican Party governs ethically and fairly, while 42 percent say the same about the Democratic Party. A majority of respondents consider both parties too radical: 61 percent of respondents consider Republicans and 57 percent of Democrats to be too radical.

Public disillusionment is widespread: roughly half of Americans say they feel anger at either party, while just over a third feel hopeful about the Republican Party. Only 28 percent of respondents believe the Democratic Party gives them hope.

The deepest discontent is among Democrats and independents on the left, who are disillusioned not only with the Republicans who control the White House and both houses of Congress, but also with their own party.

Sixty-seven percent of Democrats say they are disappointed with their party, significantly higher than in 2021 and 2019, when the figure was about half. Among them, 41 percent cite the party's inability to provide sufficient resistance to the Trump administration as the main reason.

KUALA LUMPUR, November 9 (Xinhua) — At least one person was found dead and six were rescued after a boat carrying about 100 undocumented migrants sank in waters near the Malaysia-Thailand maritime border, local police reported Sunday, citing Malaysia's state news agency Bernama.

Malaysia's Kedah police chief, Adzli Abu Shah, said the boat was part of a larger vessel used by the syndicate to transport more than 300 people.

According to him, about 300 migrants boarded a large vessel about a month ago. As it approached Malaysia's maritime border, the syndicate divided the migrants into three smaller boats to avoid detection by authorities.

According to a police officer, the boat, which had about 100 people on board, capsized three days ago, and the fate of the migrants on the other two boats is unknown.

A search and rescue operation is currently underway involving the Marine Police and the Malaysian Maritime Border Protection Agency. –0–
