Beijing, January 12 (Xinhua) — In all of 2025, the number of trains operating on China-Europe routes that departed from or arrived at the China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "China-SCO Demonstration Zone") totaled 1,225, an increase of over 20 percent year-on-year. Improving the economic and social aspects of life, preserving ancestral territories and unique forms of traditional economic activity are reflected in the activities of the three-year plan for implementing the Concept of Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East. The order approving this document has been signed.

The plan includes more than 100 different events, grouped into several thematic sections.

One section is dedicated to preserving territories inhabited by indigenous peoples. This includes, among other things, annual monitoring of the environmental status of such areas. Furthermore, representatives of indigenous peoples will be involved in public hearings regarding the implementation of projects related to natural resource development.

Another form of support is the promotion of traditional crafts on domestic and international markets. This involves regional authorities in the North, Siberia, and the Far East annually presenting such products at various exhibitions and fairs.

Other areas include the creation of national tourist routes that include historical and cultural monuments located in areas populated by indigenous peoples. This, in turn, will stimulate the creation and modernization of tourism infrastructure.

Efforts to create a comfortable and safe environment include improving the quality of communications and expanding the number of settlements connected to the internet.

A separate section of the plan is devoted to ensuring access to education. This work, in particular, involves providing schools in indigenous communities with modern equipment and textbooks in the native languages of the indigenous peoples.

Another part of the plan is the preservation of the ethnocultural heritage and traditions of the peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East. Activities in this section are aimed at preserving and promoting cultural heritage sites and intangible ethnocultural heritage (legends, songs, rituals).

The Concept for Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East until 2036 was approved by the Government in May 2025. It replaces the previous concept, which was implemented from 2009 to 2025.

Currently, the platform has over 160,000 active participants, and the overall reach of the "First in Science" project has reached over 200,000 schoolchildren and students. This summer, a competition was held to form a community of active mentors among teachers and young scientists to popularize science among children and young people. 600 winners received equipment and consumables for use in their first science clubs. In addition, educational modules for mentors in the clubs' areas of work were launched.

As part of their club work, activists from the "Movement of the First" studied how the amount of water consumed affects health and well-being, analyzed sound pollution in their area, designed comfortable and visually pleasing spaces, and created maps of allergenic plants in their community.

The winners of the All-Russian competition of scientific and technological projects "Technologies of the First" presented their promising developments at the 5th Congress of Young Scientists. Ivan Sidorenko from Donetsk presented his device for teaching music to children with disabilities. Maxim Zapara from the Moscow region developed an autonomous rodent repellent to improve the comfort of military personnel in the field.
