Colombo, November 29 (Xinhua) — Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared a state of emergency on Friday in response to one of the worst weather disasters in recent years. The corresponding document was released on Saturday.

The president granted the government authority to impose emergency regulations nationwide. Officials stated that this move is aimed at protecting public safety, maintaining national stability, and accelerating the response to natural disasters—torrential rains, floods, landslides, and strong winds—threatening large parts of the island nation.

Furthermore, the Sri Lanka Police Press Office announced the creation of a Special Operations Unit under the direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police. The unit has established dedicated hotlines for assistance by phone or WhatsApp.

Police have formed rapid response teams across the country. Boats, diving equipment, and other rescue gear are ready for immediate use if needed. The Disaster Management Center, the armed forces, and other agencies are also integrated into the joint emergency response structure.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced visa simplification for foreign nationals stranded in Sri Lanka due to flight cancellations and other weather-related issues. Those unable to depart the country on or after November 28 will be waived visa extension fees and overstay fines. Tourist, business, and resident visa holders have been granted a seven-day grace period to complete their extensions.

Beijing, November 29 (Xinhua) — Five trucks carrying cross-border e-commerce goods, the first in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), recently departed from Urumqi. This marks the official launch of this pilot model for cross-border e-commerce goods in the XUAR.

According to the Xinjiang Daily, citing a source at the Wuchang Customs Office of the Urumqi Customs, the "inspection first, then shipment" system, compared to the traditional model, allows companies to first file a customs declaration, then load the goods onto a vehicle and ship them immediately after customs inspection. Customs inspects and verifies cargo using information technology, eliminating repetitive intermediate operations such as loading and unloading, sealing, and breaking seals. The new model will reduce customs clearance time for cross-border e-commerce shipments by approximately 30 percent.

"Our cargo primarily originates from Guangdong Province (in southern China) and is exported to Russia via the Jimunai and Baktu ports. According to preliminary estimates, the new model will save at least 1,000 yuan (approximately $141) in loading and unloading costs for each truck, thereby reducing the company's operating costs by 600,000 yuan per year and customs clearance time by an average of approximately four hours," said Jin Yan, deputy general manager of Xinyu, a Xinjiang-based cross-border e-commerce company that was the first to use this model.

Wuchang Customs promised to closely monitor the quality assessment and effectiveness of this regime, and promote its scaling and dissemination in Urumqi City, so as to create a model for the high-quality development of Xinjiang's cross-border e-commerce industry. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — The People's Bank of China (PBOC) has opened a "green channel" for yuan donations from the country's interior to ensure that the funds are immediately deposited into recipient accounts in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) following a fire at an apartment complex that killed multiple people.

Under this "corridor," commercial banks will not need to verify relevant documents and information. They will be able to directly transfer donations to the Hongfuyuan Support Fund account in Dapu District based on payment instructions received from institutions or individuals in mainland China. The relevant data will be provided through the RMB cross-border payment management information system.

According to the PBC, the new measure is aimed at supporting search and rescue efforts, providing assistance to victims, and eliminating the consequences of the fire in Hong Kong.

Firefighting and search and rescue operations concluded Friday morning after a deadly fire broke out at Hong Kong's Hongfuyuan residential complex on Wednesday afternoon, killing 128 people. -0-

TOKYO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — Japanese residents held another large protest on Friday evening in response to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent misleading remarks about China's Taiwan and her lack of remorse, demanding that she retract her statements.

Hundreds of people gathered again in front of the Japanese Prime Minister's official residence following protests on November 21 and 25. Protesters held banners reading "Takaichi resign" and "Never forget history, never repeat mistakes," demanding that Sanae Takaichi retract her comments about Taiwan.

Protest participant Tomoko told Xinhua that relations between Japan and China have currently deteriorated. "No matter how you look at it, it's because of Sanae Takaichi's statements," she said.

Another protester, Sakamaki, said Japan-China relations were deteriorating and the prime minister should retract her erroneous remarks to prevent further escalation.

Ryo attended the protest with a cartoon depicting Sanae Takaichi shaking hands with the "ghost of militarism." He expressed his deep concern that Japan could become militaristic.

At a Diet session on November 7, Sanae Takaichi said that "the use of force against Taiwan" by mainland China could pose a "threat to the survival" of Japan and hinted at the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Strait, prompting sharp criticism at home.

Continuous care is essential for the nascent ecosystem, ensuring that mushrooms and berries eventually thrive and that wildlife emerges. It's important to protect the forest from fire, remove weeds around young trees, nurture seedlings, collect and preserve seeds and acorns, dig up mature seedlings, and so on.
