JAKARTA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto called for an end to the war in Gaza and vowed that Indonesia is ready to send peacekeeping troops under a UN mandate.

The President made the statement in his address to the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at the UN Headquarters in New York on Monday.

The Indonesian President stressed that ending the war in Gaza must be a top international priority, noting that Indonesia is ready to actively participate in this, including by sending peacekeeping forces in accordance with the UN mandate.

The President also expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.

"Thousands of innocent people, many of them women and children, have died. There is a threat of mass starvation. A humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding before our eyes. We condemn all acts of violence against innocent civilians," he said in a statement released by Indonesia's State Secretariat on Tuesday.

Tehran, September 23 (Xinhua) — Iran has set a goal of making China its main tourism partner, Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, Reza Salehi Amiri, announced Monday, according to the state news agency IRIB.

Noting the large number of Chinese tourists traveling abroad each year, the minister said, "We must participate in this market." He noted that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is working to achieve this goal.

Earlier this month, R.S. Amiri said the number of Chinese tourists visiting Iran should increase given the high level of relations between the two countries.

To attract more Chinese tourists, Iran introduced a unilateral visa-free policy for Chinese citizens in July 2019 and trained dozens of Chinese-speaking tour guides.

Iran has also prepared Chinese-language catalogues for Chinese tourists so that they can learn more about Iranian culture while visiting the country's museums and attractions.

JAKARTA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Indonesia and the European Union signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Bali on Tuesday.

“From the first round of negotiations in Brussels in 2016 to today in Bali, this nine-year journey has brought us to a historic milestone that reflects our shared commitment to an open, fair and sustainable economy within the framework of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement,” said Indonesian Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in a joint statement with EU Commissioner for Trade Policy and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič.

The agreement covers liberalization of trade in goods and services, as well as investment liberalization. Approximately 98 percent of tariff lines will receive preferential treatment under the agreement.

This is expected to have a positive impact on Indonesia's exports, including palm oil, textiles, footwear, and processed agricultural products. New opportunities will also emerge for electronics, high-tech goods, and digital trade.

M. Šefčovič stated that the agreement opens new opportunities for European companies in Indonesia's dynamic market. Sectors such as agribusiness and advanced manufacturing will benefit from expanded market access, including investment opportunities in the automotive and electric vehicle industries.

Indonesia became the third Southeast Asian country to sign a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union, following Singapore and Vietnam. The agreement is expected to enter into force in early 2027. –0–

PARIS, September 23 (Xinhua) — Global gross domestic product (GDP) growth is projected to slow from 3.3 percent in 2024 to 3.2 percent in 2025 and 2.9 percent in 2026, according to an economic outlook from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released on Tuesday.

The downward revision from the previous forecast is due to “download closures, rising tariffs and still-high policy uncertainty,” which are holding back investment and trade, according to the OECD.

Global economic growth in the first half of 2025 was more resilient than expected, particularly in many emerging market economies. Industrial production and trade were supported by stronger growth ahead of tariff increases, the report notes.

BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Congressman Adam Smith in Beijing on Tuesday.

Zhao Leji said that maintaining the healthy, stable and sustainable development of China-US relations is the common aspiration of the people of both countries and the whole world.

Mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the fundamental principles for the development of Sino-US relations, he said.

Calling on both sides to adhere to the principles of reasonableness, objectivity and fairness, Zhao Leji expressed the hope that both sides would strengthen exchanges, seek common ground while maintaining differences, strengthen mutual trust and eliminate doubts, so as to bring greater stability to bilateral cooperation and the world economy.

Zhao Leji noted that the Taiwan question is the most important and sensitive issue in China-US relations, and called on the US side to sincerely adhere to the one-China principle and handle the Taiwan question prudently.

Zhao Leji added that the Chinese National People's Congress is willing to strengthen exchanges with the US Congress to play a constructive role in developing China-US relations. He also welcomed the visit of a large number of members of the US Congress to China.

TAIYUAN, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — In the ancient town of Pingyao in northern China's Shanxi Province, Russian photographer and photo exhibition curator Irina Chmyreva is showing visitors from around the world a photo collection titled "Spiritual Landscape," expressing her love for the place, which is hosting the 25th annual international photography festival.

"We spiritualize the landscape with our presence. It was our dialogue with the surrounding space. I collected photographs about what we seek and what we leave behind. We flee to nature and try to use it as a cure for the problems of big cities and in our personal lives," I. Chmyreva explained the title and theme of the exhibition she curated.

Pingyao, renowned for its well-preserved ancient architecture, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The five-day photo festival, which ran from September 19 to 23, showcased over 20,000 works by more than 5,000 photographers from 34 countries and regions.

Irina Chmyreva had previously participated in similar events 13 times. “I first came to Pingyao in 2008. My colleague and I counted the number of visits to Pingyao, and the results surprised us. That’s why I consider Pingyao one of my hometowns in the world. I love Pingyao very much, where two legacies of human civilization meet – ancient architecture and contemporary photography,” the curator said.

The exhibition featured the work of several photographers, including two Russians—Maria Gruzdeva and Svetlana Borozentseva—who enthusiastically interacted with visitors. M. Gruzdeva's series "Territory" tells the story of the perseverance and dedication of explorers who voluntarily abandoned the comforts of the city to work in nature reserves. S. Borozentseva's collection "Coastal Province" depicts the eternal peace and tranquility of the thousand-year-old city of Kerch, untouched by the vicissitudes of time.

Chinese photography enthusiast Wang Min noted that the works selected by I. Chmyreva made her reflect on the connection between humanity and its environment, leaving her with a deep sense of "seeing the world in her heart."

I. Chmyreva highly values the platform provided by the photography festival, where she shares similar perspectives with Chinese photographers. The festival also launched an educational program offering participants both theoretical and practical classes. She considers this an excellent opportunity for both herself and the students accompanying her.

"Pingyao is a place to experience Chinese culture. The festival is the fruit of a friendship between Chinese organizers and international photographers. Thank you to the organizers for creating comfortable conditions so that we can continue to love this city," she concluded.

BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities on Tuesday sent about 60,000 emergency relief items to Guangdong Province in the south of the country as Typhoon Ragasa approaches.

Emergency supplies, including tents, folding beds, summer blankets, emergency lights and family kits, have been allocated to support local authorities' efforts to ensure the safe evacuation, relocation and accommodation of affected residents, as well as to provide disaster relief and recovery, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM).

These funds were jointly allocated by the Office of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Commission, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Food and Material Reserves Administration of the People's Republic of China.

China's National Flood and Drought Control Headquarters on the same day raised the typhoon emergency response level to level three for Guangdong and Hainan provinces (South China) as Typhoon Ragasa, the 18th typhoon this year, approached the country's coast.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a powerful typhoon is expected to make landfall in the coastal strip between the cities of Zhuhai and Zhanjiang between midday and late evening on Wednesday. The storm will bring heavy rain to parts of Guangdong Province and other coastal provinces.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Fast food chain McDonald's China on Tuesday announced plans to spend more than 400 million yuan (about 56.3 million U.S. dollars) over the next three years to train and cultivate skilled labor force, with a focus on upgrading its Hamburger University in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai.

According to the company's statement, the university's modernization will be carried out in three main areas: making it more intelligent and open, focused on more comprehensive growth, and creating a system for cultivating food service professionals in the digital age.

The announcement of the investment plan coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Hamburger University in Shanghai, which was founded in 2010 and became McDonald's' seventh such institution worldwide. Each year, approximately 10,000 McDonald's China employees attend in-person training at the university, and another 200,000 employees complete corporate training through the university's online learning platform.

McDonald's China CEO Phyllis Cheung said the company's expansion – from about 1,000 chain restaurants in mainland China in 2010, when the Hamburger University was established in Shanghai, to the current 7,400 restaurants – underscores the institution's fundamental role in the company's talent pipeline.

Lili Li, President of Shanghai Hamburger University, assured that in the face of the need to develop a talent pool in the new era, the university is committed to cultivating more outstanding restaurant management professionals. -0-
