WUHAN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Five people were killed and eight others were injured in a traffic accident in central China's Hubei Province on Saturday, the Lichuan City Public Security Bureau said Sunday.

GUANGZHOU, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — More than 150,000 residents in southern China's Guangdong Province have been evacuated as Typhoon Matmo approaches, prompting the country's emergency response to the disaster to be stepped up.

LISBON, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — More than 3,000 people gathered in central Lisbon on Saturday to express solidarity with the Palestinians and demand the release of three Portuguese citizens detained by Israel after attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

New York, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Illinois Governor J. Robert Pritzker said Saturday that President Donald Trump will send 300 National Guard troops to Chicago despite his repeated refusal to place his state's National Guard under federal control.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — Israel has temporarily halted bombing of the Gaza Strip to allow for the release of hostages and the completion of a 20-point peace deal, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on Saturday.

“Hamas must act quickly or all will be lost,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social. “I will not tolerate delays… Let’s do this, FAST.”

In a separate post on Saturday, the president said that after negotiations, Israel had agreed to the initial withdrawal line that was shown to Hamas.

Tripoli, October 5 (Xinhua) — At least three Libyans were killed in a boat explosion on Sunday evening off the coast of Zawiya, approximately 60 kilometers west of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, the Libyan newspaper Al-Marsad reported.

Prague, October 4 (Xinhua) — The Czech opposition movement "Action of Dissatisfied Citizens" (ANO), led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, has won the country's parliamentary elections, according to official results released Saturday after the votes were almost fully counted.

BEIJING, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — China's meteorological and emergency management agencies have raised their alert and emergency response levels as Typhoon Matmo, the 21st Pacific typhoon of 2025, continues to strengthen and heads toward the country's southern coast.

The National Meteorological Center on Saturday evening raised its previously issued "orange" typhoon alert to "red," the highest level in the agency's four-tier system, warning that Matmo was approaching the coast of Guangdong and Hainan provinces and was expected to make landfall around midday on Sunday.
