KABUL, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — A total of 2,981 Afghan families, comprising 16,928 people, returned home from Iran and Pakistan over the past week, the Afghan High Commission for Repatriates' Issues said on Sunday.

Beijing, January 25 (Xinhua) — Beijing authorities plan to further consolidate their status as China's city with the longest subway network by 2026, while prioritizing convenient commuting. JAKARTA, January 25 (Xinhua) — Indonesian police have recovered 16 bodies after a landslide in West Java province, and seven of the victims have been identified, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

In a statement, West Java police spokesman Hendra Rochmawan said the bodies were found in Cisarua area in West Bandung regency.

Of the 16 bodies, seven were successfully identified. The remaining victims are being identified through DNA testing. The unidentified bodies are being temporarily stored at a local hospital, he added.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency has deployed about 250 trained personnel to search for about 80 people believed to remain buried under the rubble.

SHANGHAI, January 25 (Xinhua) — Another retail store under the "Made in Russia" brand officially opened in Shanghai on Saturday. It is operated by Shanghai Pinyinong Electronic Commerce Co., Ltd., a regional partner of the Russian Export Center (REC).

This is the fourth such store to open in the eastern Chinese metropolis since August 2025.

Damascus, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — Syria on Saturday extended a truce with Kurdish forces for 15 days to support the transfer of Islamic State (IS) prisoners from Syria to Iraq as tensions persist in the country's northeast, the Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The ceasefire in all sectors of the Syrian army's operations was extended for 15 days, starting at 11:00 local time /20:00 GMT/ on Saturday, the statement said.

It is noted that this decision was made in support of the US-led operation to transfer ISIS prisoners from prisons formerly run by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The move also comes amid mutual accusations between the Syrian army and the SDF of violations and preparations for renewed fighting, highlighting the fragility of recent de-escalation efforts after weeks of clashes in northeast Syria.

Earlier on Saturday, the army's operations directorate accused the SDF of sending reinforcements from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), based in Iraq's Qandil Mountains, to the northeastern province of Hasakah, warning that such actions threatened regional stability.

YANGON, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — The final stage of Myanmar's multi-party general democratic elections began on Sunday morning, with polling stations opening in about 60 towns.

Voting began at 6:00 AM local time. General elections in Myanmar are being held in three stages. The first stage took place on December 28 last year in 102 towns and villages, followed by the second stage on January 11 in 100 towns and villages.
