BEIJING, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) — China has launched a new satellite-based short message service using the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), designed to provide reliable communications in emergency situations when terrestrial mobile networks are unavailable.

The service was introduced by China Space-Time Information Co., Ltd., the national BDS service provider, in collaboration with major domestic telecom operators. The company announced this on Thursday.

Kabul, February 6 (Xinhua) — Three women from one family were killed and another person was injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Khost Province in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday, regional police spokesman Tahir Erar said on Friday.

The family used a gas heater for heating, but its cylinder exploded due to a leak, he said.

KATHMANDU, February 6 (Xinhua) — At least eight people were killed in a road accident involving a bus carrying wedding guests in Baitadi district in western Nepal, Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Rae told Xinhua on Thursday.
