JERUSALEM, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Israel said Tuesday it will allow gradual and controlled entry of goods into the Gaza Strip through local traders, media reported, citing the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories (COGAT).

“A mechanism was approved for the gradual and controlled resumption of the entry of goods through the private sector into Gaza,” COGAT said in a statement.

The move was approved by the Israeli cabinet.

“As part of the development of this mechanism, a limited number of local traders have been approved in accordance with specific criteria and security checks,” the statement said.

The items that will be allowed into Gaza include basic food items, baby food, fruits and vegetables, and hygiene products. Payments for these items will be made only through bank transfers and will be subject to monitoring, COGAT said, adding that “all goods will be subject to rigorous screening.” –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Tan Ruisong, former chairman of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd., has been charged with accepting bribes, insider trading and disclosing insider information, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Tuesday.

The case against Tan Ruisong was filed by the Dalian City People's Procuratorate in Northeast China's Liaoning Province following an investigation by the National Supervisory Commission of the People's Republic of China and the Chaoyang City Public Security Bureau in Liaoning Province. It will be tried by the Dalian City Intermediate People's Court.

The prosecutor's indictment states that Tan Ruisong is accused of abusing his official position to illegally appropriate public property on an especially large scale and to benefit third parties, for which he illegally received especially large sums of money and material assets.

With insider information, Tan Ruisong repeatedly participated in securities trading during sensitive periods and disclosed such information to others to carry out relevant trading activities, the NPC said in a statement.

During the trial, prosecutors informed the defendant of his procedural rights, questioned him, and heard the opinion of his lawyer. -0-

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (SFC) on Monday ordered former President Jair Bolsonaro to be placed under house arrest for failing to comply with restrictions related to an ongoing investigation into his alleged involvement in a coup plot in 2022.

Judge Alexandre de Morais ruled that Bolsonaro violated a ban on social media by distributing messages through accounts run by his sons and political allies. The judge said the posts incited attacks on the FSF and expressed support for foreign interference in Brazil's judiciary.

“There is no doubt that there was a deliberate violation of the restrictive measure imposed on J. Bolsonaro,” said A. de Morais, adding that stricter sanctions are needed to prevent further crimes by the former president.

The decree obliges J. Bolsonaro to stay at home, wear an electronic ankle bracelet and hand over his mobile phones. He will not be able to receive visitors, with the exception of lawyers and persons authorized by the VFS.

Despite previous restrictions prohibiting him from using social media or contacting other suspects, the former president continued to influence political debates in the digital space through third parties, the judge said.

The FSB is conducting several investigations into Bolsonaro, including one related to his alleged role in an attempted coup after the 2022 elections.

In July, A. de Morais announced the introduction of strict judicial restrictions on the former president, including nightly house arrest on weekdays, full house arrest on weekends and holidays, as well as a ban on contacts with foreign diplomats and visits to embassies and consulates. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — The "Qingdao Fashion Sports Festival" martial arts tournament, organized as part of the 35th Qingdao International Beer Festival, is being held in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, from Aug. 3 to 5. It presented residents and visitors of the city with a thrilling spectacle that combined strength and speed.

According to local newspaper Bandao Dushibao, the competition featured 32 top fighters from China, Russia, India and Morocco, who competed in five weight categories: 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg and 80 kg. The daily fights from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm local time allow spectators to experience the clash of raw power and athletic passion up close.

In addition to the exciting fights, the event also featured various cultural events: an exhibition of Chinese traditional martial art wushu with a demonstration of 18 types of traditional weapons, highlighting the depth of Chinese martial traditions, as well as modern lion and dragon dances accompanied by lighting effects, where tradition and fashion create a unique synergy.

The 35th Qingdao International Beer Festival kicked off on July 18 and will run until August 16. This year, the festival went beyond the exhibition area: beer culture elements were integrated into shopping streets, tourist areas and districts of the city, and themed events were held simultaneously in several locations.

"The beer festival is the quintessence of the city's beer culture, enhancing the dynamic interaction between beer traditions and the unique character of the city, turning it into an attractive global landmark," said Lin Xingyu, senior consultant of the Qingdao International Beer Festival. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have released an action plan for the 2025-2030 period aimed at improving the environment to protect public health.

The document, jointly released by China's National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention (NADC) and several other departments, outlines 16 specific measures to create a greener, safer and more livable environment.

In recent years, China has made remarkable progress in improving its environmental health by gradually optimizing waste sorting and recycling, continuously strengthening air pollution control measures, and continuously enhancing its environmental health emergency response capabilities. However, the intensification of global climate change poses new challenges.

The measures proposed in the document include promoting a balanced diet and moderate physical activity among the population, improving waste management and sorting in residential areas, promoting greening of residential areas, and constructing landscaped pedestrian paths. In addition, the plan calls for closer integration of policies across agencies, as well as improving the environmental monitoring system, risk assessment, and early warning and health information mechanism.

The plan aims to achieve two key results by 2030: continuous improvement of drinking water quality and raising public awareness of the state of the environment and health to 25 percent or more.

“The concept of environmental health should be integrated into the political systems of various spheres,” said a representative of the State Environmental Protection Agency. The agency intends to strengthen coordination with relevant government agencies, enhance the dissemination and explanation of the document to the public, and provide guidance to local authorities in promoting the creation of a favorable environment that meets local realities. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — The A. V. Alexandrov Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army will perform at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing in early September. The performance will be held to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, the NCPA said in a statement posted on its official account on China's Wechat social media platform.

According to the post, the Russian ensemble will give 6 concerts on the stage of the NCIT, also known as the National Grand Theatre of China, from September 4 to 7.

According to the preliminary repertoire released by the theatre, Russian artists will perform such Russian songs that are recognizable in China as “Kalinka”, “Svyatnaya Voina”, “Podmoskovnye Vechera” and “Katyusha”, as well as Chinese patriotic songs, including “Partisan Song”.

As noted in the theater's statement, the Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army named after A.V. Alexandrov has previously toured China on several occasions and was hospitably received in more than 20 cities in the country.

Let us recall that China designated September 3 as Victory Day, since Japan signed the Instrument of Surrender on September 2, 1945. Earlier, the country's authorities announced plans to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. -0-

WASHINGTON, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered federal prosecutors to launch a grand jury investigation into allegations that officials in former President Barack Obama's administration fabricated intelligence about Russian interference in the 2016 election, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday.

The investigation was sparked by a plea from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who last month declassified documents she claimed concealed a “treasonous plot” to falsely link then-candidate Donald Trump to Moscow. Gabbard threatened to prosecute Obama administration officials.

A Justice Department panel was recently formed to evaluate Gabbard's claims that intelligence agencies are being "weaponized."

Fox News first reported that Bondi had directed an unnamed federal prosecutor to initiate the lawsuit, and the prosecutor is expected to present the department's evidence to a grand jury that could consider filing charges. A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment.

D. Trump, who defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016, has accused Barack Obama of treason, claiming — without evidence — that the Democrat led a coordinated effort to undermine his campaign.

A 2017 intelligence report concluded that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election in favor of Donald Trump, but found no evidence that the vote was changed.

Obama's press secretary dismissed the allegations as "bizarre" and "ridiculous." -0-
