BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — During unannounced special raids launched by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism across the country in July this year, some risks of emergencies and market disruptions in tourist areas were identified, after which local cultural and tourism departments were ordered to take immediate measures to eliminate the identified problems.

The ministry said several inspection teams have been dispatched to eight provincial-level regions across the country, including Tianjin City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Gansu and Qinghai provinces, and have found safety risks such as blocked emergency exits in commercial premises, faulty fire-fighting equipment, and lack of safety equipment such as lifebuoys and life jackets in water-based entertainment facilities through undercover inspections.

The Ministry also pointed out potential road safety risks, including violations of traffic regulations by tourist bus drivers.

In relation to business entities that fail to comply with the requirements to correct the situation, strict punitive measures will be taken in accordance with the law, or information about their shortcomings will be transferred to the competent authorities for further consideration, the department added. -0-

XI'AN, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — The total number of freight trains departing from Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on China-Europe international freight train routes has exceeded 30,000 since the city launched the route in 2013, according to the Xi'an branch of China Railways.

Train number X9043, loaded with 55 containers of photovoltaic modules, left Xi'an International Port Station at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday morning and headed west to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, becoming the 30,000th freight train to leave the city on the China-Europe route since 2013.

In recent years, the above-mentioned branch has been actively promoting the construction of the China-Europe train logistics hub in Xi'an. Through the expansion of the transportation network, optimization of transportation, increase in the frequency of fixed-schedule trains and regular launch of trains on the trans-Caspian route, the scale of departures, capacity and operation quality of China-Europe trains in Xi'an have been greatly improved. This has given strong impetus to the construction of a multi-dimensional interconnected architecture and is conducive to the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road".

Currently, there are 18 China-Europe cargo routes departing from Xi'an, covering the entire territory of the Eurasian continent. -0-

INCHEON, South Korea, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — Agriculture ministers from China, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan held the fourth trilateral meeting here on Monday.

The meeting, which focused on food security, animal diseases and sustainable agriculture, took place seven years after the previous one, which was held in China in 2018, according to a joint statement.

During the meeting, ministers highlighted the many challenges facing the agricultural sector, including the climate crisis, the cross-border spread of infectious diseases and unstable supply chains. They reiterated the importance of sharing information and working together to address them.

The heads of departments agreed to deepen mutually complementary cooperation, paying special attention to areas such as intelligent agricultural technologies, green and low-carbon agriculture, and training young specialists for agriculture.

Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Jun said China is willing to work with Japan and the ROK to comprehensively resume agricultural cooperation and establish a new trilateral cooperation structure in this area that is more sustainable, broader in scope, closer in communication and richer in content, so as to jointly contribute to promoting the revitalization, prosperity and development of agriculture and rural areas.

The ministers agreed to cooperate in the area of globally significant agricultural heritage systems and to strengthen cooperation at the international and regional levels.

Following the meeting, the parties issued a joint statement announcing their intention to hold such meetings on a regular basis. The next meeting will be held in Japan. –0–

UN Special Envoy Calls Not to Draw Yemen into Gaza War

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — Yemen should be avoided from being drawn further into regional chaos, including the war in Gaza, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg said at the monthly Security Council briefing on the situation in Yemen on Tuesday.

Regional chaos continues to undermine prospects for peace and stability in Yemen, where the situation remains extremely fragile, he said.

“For Yemen to have a real chance for peace, it must be protected from further involvement in the ongoing regional chaos emanating from the war in Gaza,” Grundberg stressed. “Therefore, attacks on civilian vessels in the Red Sea must stop. Rocket attacks on Israel and subsequent Israeli strikes on Yemen must also stop,” he added.

In addition to complicating mediation efforts to achieve a long-term solution to the conflict in Yemen, this escalation has led to the near-total destruction of port facilities on Yemen's west coast, placing enormous strain on the country's vital infrastructure, the special envoy noted.

In July, unloading at the port of Salif took three times longer than in June. The increase in waiting and unloading times at the ports of Hodeidah and Salif is a major concern, as they are important entry points for essential food products, Grundberg said.

According to him, the development of the situation in this direction could have been stopped, but instead the situation worsened: in particular, on July 27, the Houthis announced an expansion of the circle of ships that they will consider legitimate targets. “To protect the people of Yemen and ensure broader stability in the region, it is urgent to reduce the level of violence and renew the focus on diplomacy,” the special envoy said.

Speaking about the internal situation in Yemen, H. Grundberg stressed the need to continue to support de-escalation on the contact lines and help the parties build trust.

“There is an urgent need for proactive and pragmatic measures that can pave the way for peace in Yemen. We must remain steadfast in our joint efforts to move Yemen toward a future in which the country is at peace with itself and its region,” said H. Grundberg. –0–
