MINSK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — The Victory Hall of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War hosted the opening of a photo exhibition titled "Remembering the Past, Creating the Future" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War on Friday. More than 250 representatives of the Belarusian government and public organizations attended the ceremony.

The exhibition features about 70 unique historical and contemporary photographs demonstrating the enormous contribution of the Chinese nation to the victory over fascism, the key role of the Chinese Communist Party in the war of resistance, the touching friendship of the peoples of China and the USSR who fought shoulder to shoulder, as well as the striking results of comprehensive pragmatic cooperation between China and Belarus.

Xinhua News Agency Director General Fu Hua said in a video message that during the World Anti-Fascist War, all the world's forces of justice, including China and the Soviet Union, united in hatred of the common enemy, fought valiantly, shed blood and gave their lives to defend world peace and human progress.

“Today, 80 years later, China and Belarus are inheriting historical friendship, jointly upholding international justice, writing a new chapter in the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, promoting sustainable long-term development of interstate relations and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Fu Hua emphasized.

At the opening of the exhibition, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov noted that both the Belarusian and Chinese peoples paid a huge price for the victory over fascism in a terrible war.

"We sacredly honor and carefully preserve the memory of the soldiers, underground fighters and home front workers who brought the common victory closer more than eighty years ago. We remember with gratitude the names of the Chinese underground fighters who fought the fascists in the city of Vitebsk, and we honor the Belarusian heroes who gave their lives in the fight against the Japanese aggressors in the skies and on the soil of China. Their feat will not be forgotten in our countries," said N. Snopkov.

He also noted that this exhibition will allow everyone to discover a new facet of the history of friendship between Belarus and China, which is the basis for successful bilateral cooperation in the international arena and in building a community of shared destiny for humanity.

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan noted that 80 years ago the Chinese people wrote a heroic page of history with their blood and lives. At that time, the destinies of the Chinese and Belarusian peoples were closely intertwined, supporting each other in the struggle.

"China and Belarus must remain the guardians of the truth about the history of World War II. This war was the bloodiest in human history, and the sacrifices made by our peoples in the name of independence and freedom cannot be erased. No attempt to distort the truth about the war, deny its results or denigrate the contribution of China and Belarus will be accepted by our peoples," Zhang Wenchuan emphasized.

The exhibition was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, the Minsk Bureau of Xinhua, the Jiangsu Bureau of Xinhua, and China Image Group. The co-organizer was the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and Merlin LLC. The photo exhibition was held with the support of the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum. The exhibition will run until September 5. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — China's labor market remained generally stable in July 2025, with the urban unemployment rate in July standing at 5.2 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from June, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.

According to the agency, in the first seven months of 2025, the unemployment rate in cities and urban-type settlements also averaged 5.2 percent.

"Influenced by factors such as the graduation season, the unemployment rate in urban surveys showed a seasonal increase," NBS official Fu Linghui said at a press conference.

However, he said the employment situation among key population groups remained stable overall. In July 2025, the unemployment rate among rural migrant workers was 4.9 percent, below the national average.

China's 2025 target calls for more than 12 million new jobs to be created in cities and towns to keep the unemployment rate below 5.5 percent by the end of the year. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — China's Defense Ministry on Friday called on Japan to uphold its commitment to peaceful development and exercise military and security prudence, following Japan's recent deployment of fighter jets to an Air Self-Defense Force base.

Jiang Bin, a spokesman for China's Defense Ministry, made the comments at a press conference when asked to comment on Japan's deployment of US-purchased F-35B stealth fighters to an Air Self-Defense Force base and possible deployment on Japanese frigates. If confirmed, the move would be the first time Japan has equipped carrier-based fighters since World War II, according to media reports.

Jiang Bin warned that Japan has been moving further down a dangerous path of militarization in recent years, causing growing international concern that it is returning to the path of militarism.

He stressed that Japan must earn the trust of its Asian neighbors and the entire international community through concrete actions demonstrating its commitment to peaceful development. -0-

KUNMING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday, the 80th anniversary of Japan's unconditional surrender in World War II, called on the Japanese side to learn from history to gain respect and avoid going down the wrong path again.

Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a media briefing following the 10th Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Lancang-Mekong River Cooperation (LMC), explaining China's position on historical issues.

“I would like to reaffirm China’s position on this special day,” Wang Yi stressed, noting that 80 years ago, Japan suffered defeat, accepted the Potsdam Declaration and announced its unconditional surrender.

The war of aggression unleashed by Japanese militarists has caused great suffering to the people of China and other Asian countries. The Japanese people themselves have also suffered deeply from it, he said.

“A number of international documents, including the Cairo and Potsdam Declarations, clearly defined Japan’s responsibility for the war and demanded the return of the territories stolen from China, including Taiwan,” Wang Yi said. He added that this is an indisputable result of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and an important part of the post-war world order.

However, even today, some forces in Japan continue to glorify their aggression, deny it, distort and falsify history, and even seek to rehabilitate war criminals, the minister said.

He stressed that such actions are contemptible and bring shame on Japan. They challenge the UN Charter, the post-war world order, human conscience and the peoples of all the victorious countries.

"Only by looking at history soberly can one earn respect; only by learning from history can one open up a better future; only by remembering the past can one avoid going astray again. We urge Japan to make the right choice," Wang Yi concluded. -0-
