Vladimir Stroyev, Rector of the State University of Management, attended an open lesson, "Automated Technologies in Modern Manufacturing," held in our university's state-of-the-art numerical control systems (NCS) training laboratory, designed to train personnel in the aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, and innovative transportation industries.

The educational space is equipped with technologies to support modern metalworking equipment with numerical control, a specialized computer lab, and software simulators for practicing control programs. This creates an integrated learning environment where students can consistently master technologies—from virtual modeling to hands-on work on real equipment.

Laboratory Director Dmitry Nikitin detailed the goals and objectives of the new division, which include organizing additional professional education and advanced training for industry employees, promoting engineering creativity among students and young people, and integrating digital technologies into the educational process.

Today, three additional professional training programs are being implemented at the CNC laboratory:

Preparation and verification of control programs for CNC turning machines. Preparation and verification of control programs for CNC milling machines. Automated technologies in modern manufacturing.

Since the laboratory's opening, more than 260 industrial engineers and university professors have completed advanced training programs, while over 200 students have completed lecture courses and attended educational intensives.

During the open lesson, participants learned the operating principles of milling equipment and mastered the creation of control programs in CAD/CAM systems. Practical training using software simulators and CNC training systems enabled students not only to gain theoretical understanding but also to apply their acquired knowledge in practice.

The CNC Laboratory was created with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation as part of the federal project "Development of the most important science-intensive technologies and advanced training and retraining of qualified personnel in the field of transport mobility" of the national project "Industrial support of transport mobility."

The laboratory also implements networked professional development programs with three partner universities:

Vladimir State University named after A. G. and N. G. Stoletov; Grozny State Oil Technological University named after Academician M. D. Millionshchikov; Belgorod State Technological University named after V. G. Shukhov.

The CNC Laboratory of the State University of Management continues to develop as a center of excellence in the field of automated technologies, providing training for highly qualified specialists for modern industry.

An interview with Sofia Paplauskas, winner of the RUDN University Rally of Excellence

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Peoples'Friendship University of Russia

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

A beauty, an excellent student, an athlete… She is the author of three scientific articles published in journals indexed by the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) and the winner of the 2022 All-Russian Olympiad in Theoretical Mechanics. The main character of "Kidnapping, Caucasian Style" seems to have been modeled on Sofia Paplauskas, a master's student at the Engineering Academy, who has been earning straight A's for 10 semesters and won a new car at the RUDN University Honors Students' Meeting.

We spoke with Sofia and learned the secret to successful study, which subject was the hardest for her to get an A, and how she takes a break from textbooks and classes.

You initially enrolled in the architecture program at the Engineering Academy. What attracted you to it? And why did you choose Construction for your master's program?

From childhood, I knew I would study architecture. It all started with art school, then various courses at the art college. It was my love of drawing and creativity that led me to architecture. I decided to pursue a master's degree in construction because I wanted to gain more knowledge in construction technology to better understand the entire process of designing and constructing buildings.

In 2024, you won the RUDN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP scholarship competition and completed an internship at the National Engineering University of Peru's student mobility program. Tell us about that experience.

The internship provided me with valuable professional experience, allowing me to become familiar with the specifics of Latin American architectural theory and practice. And the complete immersion in the language (all classes were taught in Spanish) helped me significantly improve my language proficiency. It was also fascinating to experience Latin American culture and history and see the unique sights of Peru. Incidentally, another winner of the 2024 Rally of Excellence, Sofia Smirnova, was with me on this trip.

Do you consider research an integral part of being an excellent student at RUDN University? What topics have you personally written research on?

Clearly, top students should try their hand at science and learn something new, or perhaps even pursue it full-time. My list of accomplishments doesn't include many articles: several of them are devoted to translation from Spanish into Russian in architecture and construction, as well as spaceflight design.

What subject was the hardest to get an A in during your studies?

In my third year of undergraduate study, I took "Theoretical Mechanics." It was probably the most challenging for me, and the hardest part was getting an excellent grade on the exam. I had to work hard, but the granite of science gave way.

Share your secret on how to get excellent grades.

Since childhood, I've been accustomed to doing everything to the fullest and achieving my goals. I've always followed the rule: "If I have the opportunity to achieve the maximum, I will do it."

How do you take a break from studying? Do you manage to maintain a work-life balance?

I have very little free time; my days have been completely booked since childhood. I can't sit idle—it's my rhythm, and I enjoy it. I love playing sports (Sofia has won and placed in international and national universal combat competitions several times), spending time with family and friends, and going to the theater and various shows. If you manage your schedule wisely, you'll always find time for rest, and your lifestyle can be quite comfortable.

Wish something to the first-year students who want to be straight A students.

I want to wish them to always push through to the very end, even when they feel exhausted and want to give up. Just do what they love and get the most out of it. Yes, it takes hard work, wise prioritization, and task management, but only through hard work can we grow as individuals.

On December 12 and 13, young scientists from the State University of Management participated in the IV All-Russian Forum of Technological Entrepreneurship "TechPred-2025," organized by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

The University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform's flagship event featured a packed program focusing on support measures and accelerating the market entry of startups that meet national technology priorities.

At the sessions, government, academic, and business representatives, investors, and young entrepreneurs discussed the roadmap for the federal "Technology" project, university cooperation with leading industry companies, the creation of a startup ecosystem, successful technology transfer models, and prospects for transforming the technology industry in the face of global challenges.

The SMU business program was represented by Dmitry Rogov, Director of the Business Incubator; Anna Sotnikova, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Junior Research Fellow in the Scientific Activities Department of the Scientific Research Coordination Office; Vladimir Kutkov and Nikita Akinshin, specialists from the Engineering Project Management Center; and Mikhail Zorin, winner of the 2025 Student Startup competition and resident of the Academy of Innovators.

The central event of the TechPred-2025 forum was the plenary discussion "The Superposition Principle: Towards a Technological Breakthrough by Joining Efforts."

The event was opened by Antony Shvindt, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Government Commission for Scientific and Technological Development of Russia, who read a welcoming speech from Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Following this, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Valery Falkov, addressed the forum's guests:

"Since 2022, the number of participants, including young entrepreneurs, investors, and university representatives, has quadrupled. Most of the people brought together by the forum today are active participants in the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education's "University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform" program. You are, in many ways, shaping the culture of technological entrepreneurship in modern Russia. Thanks to your coordinated teamwork, nearly 5,000 startups have registered with the Platform over the past three years, with total revenue exceeding 2.8 billion rubles."

At a plenary session featuring Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Olga Petrova and First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Maxim Kolesnikov, experts discussed the prospects for the development of the federal "Technology" project, the role of the ITC in implementing technological cooperation maps, stimulating demand for university startups from corporations and large industrial companies, and current support measures and tools for motivating young scientists, engineers, and technology entrepreneurs to engage in innovative activities.

Another key event of the forum's first day was the Demo Day for the seventh cohort of the "Innovators' Academy" accelerator of the Moscow Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development. The founders of the ten best startups presented their technological solutions to an expert jury, corporate executives, and business angels, and received their first investments. SUMU also stepped up its efforts – for the second year in a row, our students have been volunteering at the Academy's Demo Day. This allows young managers not only to learn about best practices and developments in technology innovation but also to contribute to the organization of such a large-scale event.

It's important to note that our university actively participates in projects within the University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. SUM conducts entrepreneurial skills training, implements acceleration programs for NTI markets, and for the past two years, our students have won the Student Startup competition organized by the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises (FASIE), and their projects have been included in the All-Russian ranking of the TOP-1000 university startups. This year was no exception. The list of top projects, selected in key technology areas, included startups HolterTECH (a wearable heart rate monitor with ECG recording technology, developed by Mikhail Zorin) and Clynn (a device for sterile and convenient delivery of Vaseline with precise dosing for tattoo artists, developed by Varvara Karamysheva). As a reminder, both projects won the Student Startup competition this year, and their founders received grants totaling 1 million rubles from the FASIE.

The Legal Framework for Artificial Intelligence: A Meeting of the Expert Council on Science and Education at the IPA CIS

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On December 10, a meeting of the Expert Council on Science and Education of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was held at the Tauride Palace. Chaired by Andrey Rudskoy, Rector of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Dmitry Kobitsky, Secretary General of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council, opened the meeting.

As Andrei Ivanovich noted, a number of events aimed at supporting and developing young talent are taking place in the region. The experts were provided with detailed information on youth projects, including the "Children of the Commonwealth" cultural and educational forum, the Humanities and Social Sciences Olympiad for CIS schoolchildren, and other annual festivals, games, and competitions.

One of the key topics of the meeting was recommendations for legal regulation of the development and use of artificial intelligence systems.

To accelerate AI adoption, government support programs, a unified framework for ethically based legal regulation, and simplified access to data are needed. Key conditions include a special investment regime, a balance between the interests of business and society, and simplified administrative procedures for testing and implementing AI technologies.

Modern digital computers are incapable of reproducing human cognitive functions, noted Andrey Rudskoy.

A digital machine will never become a brain—but it could very well become a "digital crutch" for the brain, freeing us from routine work and allowing us to more quickly realize our intellectual and creative potential. That's why we expect lawyers today to clearly define AI—and not just define it, but also regulate its areas of application and the conditions for its proper use, said Andrei Ivanovich.

Representatives of the academic community of the Commonwealth countries have proposed developing recommendations for organizing a grant support system for teachers, young scientists, and consortiums of universities in the CIS countries.

The countries of the region, united by a shared history and similar educational policy principles, have been developing higher education along different trajectories in recent decades—from integration with the European space to reforms focused on domestic priorities. This has led to fragmentation of the educational space and a decline in academic mobility. This weakens the ties between education, business, and government, and hinders the mutual recognition of qualifications. The creation of a grant system will create a unified integration mechanism aimed at developing transnational educational and innovative initiatives.

Council members discussed proposals for the draft long-term plan for model lawmaking in the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2026–2028 and reviewed the draft program for implementing the concept for the formation of a unified (common) educational space for the Commonwealth for 2027–2035.

The experts were presented with the results of the second international conference, "The Russian Language – the Basis for Integration Dialogue in the CIS Region," and the international scientific and educational congress of the CIS member states, "The Intellectual Code of the Commonwealth." Andrey Rudskoy praised the results of the Assembly's past congressional events and proposed holding them annually. The council members unanimously supported this proposal. The next meeting will be held in spring 2026.
