BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — A refresher course for high-level Chinese language translators from Eurasian countries and the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) kicked off in Beijing on Monday, according to the official website of the Foreign Language Teaching and Learning Publishing House, which is a co-organizer of the event.

The participants of the courses, the main founder of which was the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, were representatives of diplomats from such countries as Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as from the SCO Secretariat.

It is reported that through these courses, teachers from several universities, including Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFISU), Peking University and Beijing Language and Culture University, will jointly help students improve their professional translation skills and gain a deeper understanding of China's national conditions and culture.

At the opening ceremony of the course, Dai Guiju, Director of the Russian Language Institute of PUJI, expressed the hope that such courses will become a long-term platform for promoting understanding of China's development theories and practices among young and middle-aged diplomats from Eurasian countries, and for contributing to deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and promoting dialogue between Chinese and foreign civilizations.

Let us recall that such courses were first organized in 2016. During the previous 9 times they were held, more than one hundred translators from Eurasian countries and the SCO Secretariat were trained. -0-
