BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — Artists from China and Kazakhstan painted landscapes of Mount Baishifeng in Qapqal Xibo Autonomous County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Monday, marking the official launch of cultural exchange activities between renowned artists from the two countries, Chinanews.com.cn reported.

At the foot of the mountain, artists from both countries not only created works from life, but also evaluated each other's works and shared painting techniques. "Our Kazakh colleagues use bright colors that perfectly convey the autumn colors of Ili, and when we paint mountain landscapes, we emphasize minimalism and understatement, which is typical of Chinese landscape paintings. These two techniques unexpectedly gave rise to a fresh and unique aesthetic," said Yan Ming, one of the participants from the Chinese side of the event.

During the 5-day event, artists from the two countries are also expected to visit several tourist areas with breathtaking natural scenery and unique folk customs in Ili to capture the socio-economic development of the county on their canvases. An exhibition of creative works and an art salon will be held after the plein air.

Deputy head of the county artists' association Qi Yafeng called these canvases not just works of art, but also a “visual diary of Chinese-Kazakh friendship.” -0-
