Gaza/Cairo, February 2 (Xinhua) — The first group of sick and wounded Palestinians has left the Gaza Strip for Egypt through the Rafah crossing, Palestinian sources reported Monday. This key border crossing opened on a trial basis on February 1.

According to sources, five patients, accompanied by 10 relatives and caregivers, crossed the border between the southern Palestinian enclave and Egypt. The sources added that none of those expected to enter Gaza from Egypt have yet returned to the enclave.

The departure of Palestinians from Gaza was confirmed by the Egyptian television channel Al-Qahera, citing Egyptian officials. The crossing occurred several hours after the Rafah crossing partially reopened for the first time in over a year and a half as part of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire.
