Washington, December 12 (Xinhua) — Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire effective Friday evening, US President Donald Trump announced Friday.
“This morning I had a very good conversation with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand and Prime Minister Khun Manet of Cambodia regarding the very unfortunate resumption of their long war,” Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social, adding that both countries are ready for peace and continued trade with the United States.
According to the American leader, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to return to the original peace agreement concluded in his presence earlier this year with the assistance of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia flared up again on the afternoon of December 7. Both sides accused each other of initiating the attack and reported casualties.
