London, March 3 (Xinhua) — US President Donald Trump said relations between the UK and the US are "clearly not what they were" after Britain reiterated its decision not to join the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, British media reported on Tuesday.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, D. Trump noted that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer “didn’t help at all.”

"I never thought I'd see this. I never thought I'd see this from the UK," Trump said. "It's very sad to see that the relationship is clearly not what it was."

D. Trump said he was "very disappointed" in K. Starmer for not allowing him to use the military base in Diego Garcia to carry out strikes against Iran.

In his statement on Sunday, Starmer allowed Washington to use the base for "specific and limited defensive purposes." But Trump noted that it "took too long" for the British Prime Minister to change his mind.

Mr Starmer told the British parliament on Monday that the country would not join the US and Israel in their "offensive strikes" against Iran.

“President Trump has expressed his disagreement with our decision not to participate in the initial strikes, but it is my duty to judge what is in the UK’s national interest,” he stressed. –0–
