BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng on Monday called for all-out efforts to ensure safe, smooth and comfortable travel for the public during the Chunyun period, a special period of transportation operations due to mass internal migration before, during and after the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year).

He Lifeng, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the call while inspecting transportation hubs in Beijing and Tianjin on the first day of the Chunyun period in 2026.

The annual Chunyun period, which represents the world's largest population migration, places enormous strain on China's transportation system.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council called on transport agencies to thoroughly and fully implement all measures to ensure transport safety. He emphasized the need to strengthen monitoring, early warning, and response to extreme weather conditions and geological disasters.

He Lifeng also called for continued care and support for frontline transport workers throughout the 40-day Chunyun period.
