Kabul, February 2 (Xinhua) — Police seized weapons and ammunition from a vehicle and detained two suspected smugglers in Paktia Province in eastern Afghanistan, the provincial police department said in a statement on Monday.

The weapons, including a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two hand grenades and a quantity of ammunition, were found in a vehicle at a roadside checkpoint on Sunday afternoon, the statement said.

Police also arrested two people on suspicion of attempting to smuggle weapons and handed them over to judicial authorities for further investigation.

No one has the right to illegally possess or carry weapons, the statement said. It also noted that police will make every effort to maintain law and order in the province.
