Geneva, January 1 (Xinhua) — Several dozen people are believed to have been killed and around 100 injured on Thursday in an explosion at a bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana in the canton of Valais in southwestern Switzerland, regional police chief Frederic Giesler announced at a press conference.
Those injured in the explosion and subsequent fire were seriously injured and taken to hospitals in the city of Sion, the capital of the canton of Valais, as well as in other cities, he said.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the explosion, but authorities have already ruled out the possibility of terrorism.
Helicopters and ambulances, including those from abroad, have arrived at the scene, and intensive care units and operating rooms at local hospitals are operating at full capacity, local officials said at a press conference.
