Washington, December 11 (Xinhua) — The United States has imposed new sanctions against three nephews of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's wife, a businessman associated with him, and six companies transporting oil from the South American country, the Treasury Department announced on Thursday.
“Nicolas Maduro and his criminal associates in Venezuela are flooding the United States with drugs that poison the American people,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
The day before, the Pentagon seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. The Trump administration has been pressuring Maduro for months, accusing him of leading a terrorist organization involved in drug trafficking.
