St. Petersburg, November 11 /Xinhua/ — The Russian experimental PD-8 aircraft engine has logged over 4,000 hours of bench and flight testing, the press service of the Rostec state corporation reported on Tuesday.

The PD-8 bypass turbofan engine was developed at the Rybinsk-based UEC-Saturn plant. Work on the project began in 2019, and aircraft certification testing began in March 2025. Flight tests of the engine are currently underway on the Il-76LL flying testbed and two Superjet 100 aircraft.

According to Alexander Grachev, CEO of the United Engine Corporation, a Rostec subsidiary, the PD-8 has demonstrated reliable operation in all modes. One of the most important tests will be flights in natural icing conditions, planned for Arkhangelsk.

The PD-8 engine, with a thrust of 8 tons, is designed for the Superjet 100 short-haul passenger aircraft and the Be-200 amphibious aircraft. The Superjet 100 is designed to carry 100 passengers, and serial deliveries of the new aircraft are planned to begin in 2026. –0–
