Bishkek, November 11 (Xinhua) — The 7th meeting of the Joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek Water Management Commission was held in Manas, Jalal-Abad Province, Kyrgyzstan. The parties discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation, including the rational use of water resources, ensuring water and energy security in the face of climate change, and regional development prospects, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan reported on Tuesday.
Speaking at the meeting, Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, noted that relations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have reached the level of a strategic partnership based on mutual trust, respect, and support.
“We view water not as a subject of disagreement, but as the basis for mutual understanding, friendship, and sustainable development,” he emphasized.
To improve the effectiveness of cooperation, the Kyrgyz side proposed introducing drip and automated irrigation in border areas, creating a "green friendship belt" along the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border to restore forests and combat desertification, and developing cooperation between relevant government agencies in the water and energy sector.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation and implement new joint initiatives. –0–
