XIAMEN, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — The 25th China International Investment and Trade Fair (CIFIT) opened Monday in Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province, with delegations from more than 120 countries and regions attending.

The four-day event, which focuses on three main areas – Investment in China, Chinese Investment and International Investment – features over 100 investment-related events, with the UK being the honoured guest country at CIFIT this year.

The 400 sq m UK National Pavilion includes key sectors including financial and professional services, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, clean energy and creative industries.

The head of the British trade mission to China, Lewis Neil, told Xinhua that Britain had sent its largest ever business delegation to the fair, comprising more than 100 companies from across the country.

He added that they see CIFIT as an important opportunity for the UK to promote growth-driving sectors, as set out in the country's modern industrial strategy.

Expressing confidence in China's economic prospects, he said: "China is the world's second-largest economy and China is expected to grow rapidly. We are optimistic about the ability of British companies to grow in China."

In 2025, CIFIT will feature a symposium featuring multinational corporations, dialogues between leading non-state-owned enterprises and Fortune 500 companies, and more than 30 special investment promotion events that will present the viability and opportunities of “investing in China” in a comprehensive and multi-faceted manner.

Morten Wierød, CEO of ABB Industrial Group, attended the opening ceremony of the fair and took part in key meetings with government officials and representatives of multinational companies.

“I am delighted to be back in Xiamen and attending CIFIT for the first time. The event provides an open platform for global collaboration, bringing together governments, businesses and investors to promote economic growth,” said Morten Wierød.

He noted that China is an important market for ABB and a key research and manufacturing base. “We will continue to invest in this important market, strengthening our R&D capabilities and delivering innovative products that help our customers become more productive, efficient and sustainable.”

Statistics released by China's Ministry of Commerce showed that more than 30,000 new foreign-invested enterprises were established in China from January to June 2025, up 11.7 percent year on year.

First organized in 1997 by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, CIFIT has become an important platform for promoting investment and promoting global development. -0-
