March 23, 2026: "Today, our new and most important KPI is the attention economy."

The goal of the media market today is audience attention. Choice is expanding, and people's time is becoming the most scarce resource. It is precisely around this that large media corporations are currently reorganizing, stated Alexander Zharov.

The attention economy has become a new KPI for the media business: it's important not just to create content, but to retain audiences and monetize their attention across all platforms. This explains Gazprom-Media's three focus areas for the coming years: premium content, digital service development, and strengthening its presence in foreign markets.

RUTUBE is showing impressive growth: the platform's advertising revenue last year exceeded 2.2 billion rubles, a fourfold increase. Around 2.4 million pieces of content are uploaded to the platform daily. The number of channels increased by 45% year-on-year, from 2.7 million in February 2025 to 3.9 million today.

When creating new projects, the focus is not on quantity but on potential: the content must be effective on air, online, and during the subsequent rights sales phase. Alexander Zharov cites the potential acquisition of broadcast rights for the upcoming FIFA World Cup as one of his priorities. At the same time, the holding is also open to exploring new sports, from judo and tennis to padel.

Should we expect partnerships with marketplaces? Definitely yes. The logic is clear: some have the money, traffic, and ambition, while others have the platforms, content, and audience attention. And is the future for sale? Read Alexander Zharov's extensive interview with Kommersant.

Beijing, March 24 (Xinhua) — The National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA) announced the completion of the first-ever inventory of patent databases of universities and research institutes, which covered over 1.3 million patents.

The audit identified 680,000 patents for inventions that were deemed the most promising in terms of commercialization and were presented to 460,000 companies that expressed interest in bringing these innovations from the laboratory to the market.

The current inventory is part of a three-year special campaign to promote the commercialization of intellectual property (IP), approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China in 2023. One of its main goals was to review the patent databases of universities and research institutes. Over the past three years, the campaign has facilitated the commercialization of approximately 80,000 patents from more than 2,700 universities and research institutes across the country.

"By the end of 2025, the rate of implementation of patented inventions from universities and research institutes into production reached 10.1 percent and 17.2 percent, respectively, which is significantly higher than the figures before the special campaign began," noted Hu Wenhui, Deputy Head of the State Institute of Information Technologies.

It is noted that the campaign focused primarily on patents for key technologies in future-oriented industries such as quantum technologies, biomanufacturing, brain-computer interfaces, and 6G networks, in order to lay a stronger foundation for the commercialization of high-impact R&D.

A group of small and medium-sized enterprises specializing in complex technologies and holding robust patents also benefited and grew stronger as a result of the campaign. Hu Wenhui noted that companies known as Hangzhou's "Six Little Dragons," including the world-renowned startup Unitree Robotics, are successfully implementing the SME R&D program implemented in Zhejiang Province.

China became the first country to surpass the 5 million mark in the number of valid domestic invention patents. And the country has led the world in international patent applications for six consecutive years. However, the rate of patent implementation in production remains low, especially at universities and research institutions. In 2022, this figure at Chinese universities was only 3.9 percent, leaving many patented technologies unused.

In recent years, the country has stepped up efforts to expand the practice of patent transfer, seeking to turn the results of scientific and technological research into real driving forces for economic and social development. -0-

JERUSALEM, March 24 (Xinhua) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel intends to use its strikes on Iran to ensure the protection of the country's "vital interests" within the framework of any possible diplomatic agreement.

Following a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu noted in a video message that Trump believes there is an opportunity to "use the enormous achievements" of the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran to "realize the goals of the war through an agreement."

“We will defend our vital interests in any situation,” he emphasized.

At the same time, B. Netanyahu stated that Israeli strikes against Iran and the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon were continuing. Shortly after D. Trump's announcement of conflict resolution talks, the Israeli military reported a new series of airstrikes on Tehran, as well as the destruction of another bridge over the Litani River in southern Lebanon, which, according to them, the group was using to transport weapons and fighters.

Three teams of NSU undergraduate and graduate students participated in the finals of the "UBIO" case championship, organized by Siberian Federal University (SFU). "UBIO" is a competition in which teams, supported by mentors, solve real-world problems from leading Russian biotechnology companies and receive professional evaluation from candidates and doctors of science, as well as industry practitioners. A total of 18 teams from various Siberian cities, including Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, and others, competed in the finals.

NSU was represented in the final by three teams:

— "Sudden Gap": it included fourth-year undergraduate students Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS) of NSU — Nail Bikeev, Ekaterina Akhramenko, Ulyana Borovikova, and Nikita Ivanov took first place in the Medical Biotechnology track.

— "Oligators": it included first-year master's students Advanced Engineering School (AES) of NSU — Klim Karavaev, Yulia Nesgovorova, Nikolai Novozhilov, and Nikita Shulyakovsky took third place in the Medical Biotechnology track.

— "Nif-nif, naf-naf, and PCR-PCR": first-year master's students from the NSU Natural Sciences Department, Elizaveta Samoilova, Polina Shangina, Sofya Dolina, and Yulia Zhakupova, took part in the "Food Biotechnology" track.

Egor Bazhenov, a first-year master's student at NSU, took third place in the "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" track as part of the university team.

"Participating in the SFU YUBIO case championship was a wonderful experience. It's a truly fresh format for interaction between biology students and industrial partners, solving real-world, relevant production challenges. I'm thrilled that the project brings together science and business, helping students see how scientific knowledge is applied in practice. The format is dynamic and vibrant, and the idea itself is excellent. It's clear that the project is young, but has great potential, and we're confident it will only get better with each passing year!" shared Nikolai Novozhilov, a member of the "Oligators" team.

Speaking about what enabled them to win the case championship, Nail Bikeev, captain of the Sudden Gap team, noted:

"I think it helped that we were already in our fourth year, with lab experience and specialized subjects under our belt. We tried to approach the case as a practical task, not looking for a fancy solution, but one that would actually work. We also quickly assigned roles, as otherwise we couldn't have met the deadline. I think events like these are important for students because they provide valuable experience, and you already have a rough idea of what working in a biotech company would be like."

The "Sudden Gap" team thanks Sergey Evgenievich Sedykh, senior lecturer at the NSU Department of Natural Sciences and head of the "Advanced Engineering Solutions for Biotechnology and Medicine" master's program at the NSU PIS, for financial support of the team's participation through the "Alpha-Future | Grants for Teachers" grant. The "Oligators" team thanks My Genetics, LLC, for sponsorship.

Exclusive: China's Global Civilization Initiative Resonates with Central Asia's Historical Experience, Says Kyrgyz Expert

Bishkek, March 24 /Xinhua/ — Central Asia is one of the oldest meeting places of cultures. China's Global Civilization Initiative resonates with the region's historical experience in the exchange of civilizations, Mars Sariev, a political scientist from Kyrgyzstan and an expert on Central Asian affairs, told Xinhua.

The initiative has become an important public good in the realm of ideas and thought, provided by China to the international community in the new era. It advocates overcoming the alienation between civilizations through interaction. M. Sariev believes that this concept is fully consistent with the approaches of countries in the region in the area of civilization.

"Central Asia can be called one of the oldest meeting places of cultures. The most important routes of the Great Silk Road passed through the territory of modern-day Kyrgyzstan. Chinese, Russian, Persian, Turkic, Middle Eastern (Middle Eastern – Xinhua), and other civilizations intersected here. Along with these goods, various ideas, religions, scientific knowledge, and artistic styles spread. Therefore, the idea of civilizational exchange is very natural for the region," he said.

According to the expert, the Central Asian region has served as a bridge between East and West for centuries. Today, it can also play an important role—becoming a space for civilizational mediation in Eurasia, where different cultural worlds don't clash but rather learn from and understand each other.

“In this sense, Chinese initiatives for humanitarian and cultural dialogue are effectively restoring the spirit of openness that once existed along the Great Silk Road,” he emphasized.

Kyrgyzstan currently chairs the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This year marks the 25th anniversary of the organization's founding. According to M. Sariev, the SCO, which unites various civilizations, has, over more than 20 years of practice, confirmed China's vision that different civilizations can peacefully coexist and develop mutually beneficial cooperation.

"If you look closely at the evolution of the SCO, it becomes clear that it is an international format that has, from the outset, placed an emphasis on trust and pragmatic cooperation," he noted. "The Organization brings together countries with different political systems and cultural traditions. But it is precisely this diversity that has become the Organization's defining characteristic."

The "Shanghai Spirit," which the SCO adheres to, emphasizes respect for cultural diversity. China also champions the idea that civilizations are neither good nor bad (civilizations are not divided into superior and inferior, good and bad). According to M. Sariev, these positions are extremely important, especially given the current global trend toward establishing a hierarchy of civilizations.

"In the modern world, the logic of bloc confrontation is growing. However, the SCO was initially built on the principle of equality and consideration of each other's interests. This is precisely why the 'Shanghai Spirit' emerged, which values mutual trust, consultation, and the search for compromise. In fact, the Organization has become a kind of laboratory where the possibility of peaceful coexistence between different civilizations is tested in practice," the Kyrgyz political scientist emphasized.

According to the expert, for the countries of Central Asia, respect for cultural diversity is not an abstract philosophy, but a reflection of their own historical experience. "Our region has always been at the crossroads of civilizations, resulting in a unique environment where the coexistence of different cultures has become the norm. Therefore, attempts to rank civilizations in our region are met with considerable skepticism," he stated.

The expert also believes that sustainability arises where there is balance and mutual respect. "Therefore, the principle of the equality of civilizations, in essence, means recognizing the right of each society to develop along its own historical path. In the modern world, this model of international relations appears more realistic and sustainable," concluded M. Sariev.
