BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — China's port city of Tianjin exported central heating radiators and their parts worth 19.5 million yuan (about 2.74 million U.S. dollars) to Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries from January to July 2025, up 71 percent year on year, according to customs statistics released by news platform chinanews.com.cn.

We are talking about the SCO member states and countries that have received the status of observer and dialogue partner of this organization. As the curve of export data of the customs service shows, in recent years, Tianjin, as a traditional strong base in the manufacturing industry in the north of the country with an integrated production chain of central heating batteries, has been actively meeting the growing demand for highly efficient and durable heating equipment in the above-mentioned countries.

The latest result of Tianjin industry enterprises developing markets in the SCO countries is the export of products to Kazakhstan. Quite recently, a well-packed batch of central heating batteries and their spare parts was sent to this country by China-Europe railway. The packaging was labeled “Adapted to the harsh frosty climate of Central Asia.”

“In winter, the air temperature in Central Asia can reach below minus 20 degrees Celsius, so this region is characterized by a long heating season and relatively high pressure in the heating system. Taking these features into account, we have optimized the technical configuration of our products, thanks to which our batteries can more reliably cope with high water pressure and generate 20 percent more thermal energy than conventional batteries,” explained customer relations manager Lu Nan from exporter Tianjin Jiuding Sunshine HVAC Co., Ltd.

The SCO currently has 10 member countries: China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan, Iran and Belarus. In addition, the organization has two observer countries: Mongolia and Afghanistan, as well as 14 dialogue partners: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Maldives, Myanmar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. -0-

GUANGZHOU, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — "The Diary of Lieutenant Donald W. Kerr," which tells the story of the rescue of an American pilot during World War II, was published in simplified Chinese characters in south China's Guangdong Province on Friday.

The book details the story of Lieutenant Donald W. Kerr, a veteran Flying Tiger pilot whose plane was shot down by Japanese forces over Hong Kong in 1944 during a bombing raid on Kai Tak Airport. Kerr was rescued by locals and the Dongjiang Anti-Japanese Column, a guerrilla force led by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

David Kerr, the late lieutenant's second son, attended the book's release ceremony at the Dongjiang Anti-Japanese Column Memorial Museum in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. He said his father fought alongside Chinese soldiers against Japanese forces from 1943 to 1944.

These memoirs are a description of the rescue operation and the work of the partisan detachment through the eyes of an American soldier, and also an important historical material for the study of WWII.

The Dongjiang Anti-Japanese Column, which operated during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression near Hong Kong and Macao, was known for its cooperation with foreign allies, one example of which was the rescue of Kerr.

The bonds forged during the war have been passed down through generations. David Kerr and his family first visited the Dongjiang Anti-Japanese Column Memorial Museum in 2009, donating his father’s flight jacket and photographs to the institution. They returned in 2015 to attend the release of the diary in English and traditional Chinese characters, a visit that marks another milestone in preserving this chapter of history.

“Our father wanted us to know this piece of history. We would also like to share this story with our Chinese friends and in this regard express our gratitude,” said David Kerr. -0-

TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov exchanged views on Friday on the latest developments around the Iranian nuclear issue.

During the telephone conversation, the parties discussed threats from the EU-3 (France, Britain and Germany) to restore international sanctions against Iran ahead of the expiration of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Saturday.

It is reported that the EU3 countries have neither a legal nor an ethical basis for activating the snapback mechanism, which would imply the restoration of all UN Security Council sanctions against Tehran.

The snapback procedure under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) allows world powers to reimpose international sanctions if Iran violates the deal.

The statement added that the ministers also exchanged views on the prospects for nuclear talks between Iran and the West and stressed that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 should expire on October 18 as scheduled. –0–

Moscow, August 23 /Xinhua/ – A meeting of the UN Security Council (SC) on the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream pipeline will be held on August 26 at Russia's request. This was announced by Acting Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky on his Telegram channel on Saturday.

"In connection with the new information that has emerged about the detention of a suspect in organizing the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream in September 2022, Russia has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council. We will draw attention to the delays in the German investigation and its lack of transparency for the Security Council. The Panamanian SC presidency has scheduled it for 16:00 New York time /23:00 Moscow time/ on August 26," he wrote.

According to TASS, Ukrainian Sergei Kuznetsov, suspected of involvement in the explosions of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, was detained in Italy on Thursday on a German warrant. The German Prosecutor General's Office claimed that the man "was part of a group of people who planted explosive devices on gas pipelines near the island of Bornholm in September 2022."

On September 26, 2022, unprecedented damage was recorded on three lines of Nord Stream and the never-commissioned Nord Stream 2. –0–

The day of the defeat of German troops by Soviet troops in the Battle of Kursk

On August 23, our country celebrates the Day of the defeat of German troops by Soviet troops in the Battle of Kursk.

The Battle of Kursk is one of the largest and most strategically important battles of the Great Patriotic War. It took place in the summer of 1943 between the Red Army and the Wehrmacht and lasted 50 days. The battle was of great importance for the outcome of the entire war and became a turning point that finally confirmed the superiority of the Soviet Union over Germany. It is no coincidence that this date was included in the list of Days of Military Glory of Russia.

In developing Operation Citadel, the German command sought to regain the initiative by attacking the salient of the front in the Kursk region, hoping to encircle the Soviet troops and deliver a crushing blow. In response, the Russians created a deeply echeloned system of fortifications. Therefore, the Battle of Kursk can be divided into two stages: defensive and offensive. Germany concentrated about 900 thousand soldiers, about 10 thousand artillery pieces, 2758 tanks and 2050 aircraft for the attack. 1.3 million Soviet soldiers prepared to defend their native land with the support of more than 19 thousand guns and mortars, 3444 tanks and 2172 aircraft.

The Nazi troops advanced on July 5. The Red Army steadfastly withstood the onslaught and, thanks to operational intelligence, even launched counterattacks. One of these was the famous battle near the village of Prokhorovka – the largest tank counter battle in world history, where our units clashed with the elite German divisions “Adolf Hitler”, “Reich” and “Death's Head”.

Soviet offensive operations began on July 17, when the enemy's pressure had not yet died down, so dividing the Battle of Kursk into stages is arbitrary. By the 23rd, the Russians had reached the positions of the fascist troops that they had occupied at the beginning of the battle, and then drove them westward.

The battle ended with the liberation of Orel, Belgorod and Kharkov. Kursk, Orel and Belgorod became the first cities to receive the honorary title of "City of Military Glory".

The German army lost not only the captured lands, about 500 thousand killed, wounded and captured soldiers, 1,500 tanks and 3,700 aircraft, but also the strategic offensive initiative.

The victory in the Battle of Kursk marked the beginning of the Red Army's liberation campaign into occupied Europe.

Among the participants in the turning point battle were several employees of the State University of Management, including two Heroes of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gureev and Pyotr Sedelnikov. The first commanded a mortar regiment and was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, for his successful actions. The second, as part of the 237th Assault Aviation Regiment, received his baptism of fire in the skies over Kursk.

GUU congratulates everyone on this significant day. Glory to our heroic ancestors who defended the fatherland! And glory to their descendants who recently once again drove out the invaders from the Kursk land.

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Friday signaled the possibility of an early interest rate cut, saying the central bank would proceed cautiously while continuing to assess the impact of its policies on the economy.

Speaking at the central bank's annual symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Powell said that as borrowing costs weigh on growth and labor market and inflation pressures ease, "the changing balance of risks may require adjustments in our policies."

He stressed that the Fed faces a “difficult situation” as it seeks to simultaneously achieve low and stable inflation and a healthy labor market, which are at odds with each other.

“Powell’s comments significantly softened expectations for an aggressive series of interest rate cuts, pointing to concerns about inflation, which has been above the Fed’s 2 percent target for more than four years,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

U.S. inflation has risen in recent months but remains well below the peak of 9.1 percent reached three years ago.

Expectations of a rate cut helped boost Wall Street. Stocks rose. The Dow Jones and Nasdaq indexes were up about 2 percent in afternoon trading, while the S&P 500
