Pyongyang, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Pyongyang has condemned the "Ulchi Freedom Shield" joint military exercises between the United States and the Republic of Korea (ROK) as a move that "undermines regional security."

Large-scale military exercises targeting the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) can never be "defensive" because they are carried out by the world's largest nuclear-armed state and its "satellite states" on the Korean Peninsula, First Vice Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army (KPA) Kim Yong Bok said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday.

“The current joint military exercises are preparations for a real war, which makes their provocative nature even more obvious, as they have surpassed all previous exercises held in preparation for a war against the DPRK in their nature, scale and format,” the statement released on Monday said.

Noting that the exercises had become multinational and the number and duration of field maneuvers had reached record levels, the statement said they had “evolved into the largest, longest and worst military exercises” in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the world.

The DPRK is closely monitoring what is happening and is ready to cope with any situation.

The latest statement follows similar condemnations earlier this month from North Korean Defense Minister No Gwang-chol and a spokesman for the KPA General Staff. –0–

TIANJIN, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Temurzoda Amirhamza, a young man from Tajikistan who just completed a four-month Chinese language course at Tianjin University, is currently applying for a work visa to China. He wants to learn international trade processes in practice to lay the foundation for setting up his own transnational trading company after returning to his homeland.

Temurzoda Amirkhamza, 24, is from Dangara, a city in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region located about 100 km from the capital Dushanbe. In recent years, thanks to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the city has become a key hub for trade and economic cooperation between China and Tajikistan.

In 2014, the Tajik agricultural and textile industrial park “Juntai Dangara Xin Xilu Textile” was established in Dangara with investments from a Chinese enterprise, which is still one of the largest textile industrial parks in Central Asia with the most complete production chains – from cotton growing, yarn spinning and weaving to dyeing and manufacturing of finished garments.

The creation of this industrial park not only stimulates the development of the local economy, but also allowed young people like Temurzoda Amirkhamza to clearly experience the benefits of expanding trade and economic cooperation with China.

“When I saw more and more Chinese companies investing in my hometown and building industrial parks, I realized that economic cooperation not only creates jobs but also has a profound impact on the development of the region,” says Temurzoda Amirkhamza. This understanding prompted him to enroll in Finance and Economics at the Tajik National University after finishing school.

During his studies, Temurzoda Amirkhamza keenly grasped the huge potential of Chinese goods in the Tajik market. “Chinese smart watches, smartphones and other technological products are distinguished by good quality and affordable prices, so they are very popular among Tajik youth,” he notes.

He bought products on the Alibaba platform and then sold them on Instagram. At first, his monthly profit was just over $300, but quickly grew to $1,000. In just two years, his Instagram account had more than 40,000 subscribers, who gradually turned into regular customers.

As the business expanded, in his third year of university he registered a trading company, creating his own brand, and formed a professional team to work in areas such as procurement, logistics, warehousing and IT operations.

In recent years, China and Tajikistan, as members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), have seen a steady increase in trade and economic activity between them. According to statistics, China has been the largest source of investment and an important trading partner for Tajikistan for many years. In 2023, bilateral trade volume increased by 53.5 percent year-on-year to $3.926 billion, setting a historical record. At the same time, more and more Tajik youth, seeing the potential of the Chinese market, are heading to China to study the language, economics, and trade to prepare for their future careers.

In April 2023, Temurzoda Amirhamza came to China for the first time to deepen his knowledge in business by enrolling in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Shanxi University of Finance and Economics. And to gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese market and master the language, he began studying Chinese at Tianjin University in March 2025.

In addition, he independently paid for online courses, where he systematically studied the business processes of conducting cross-border trade in China, company registration procedures, customs declarations for import-export operations, as well as taxation and financial issues.

Temurzoda Amirkhamza hopes to take advantage of the opportunity of the upcoming SCO summit to actively identify new promising areas for the development of trade and economic ties and continue to deepen his knowledge in the field of Chinese culture, economics and the market.

“China has opened a new world for me, full of opportunities. The Chinese market is huge and promising. And I want to bring more Chinese goods to Tajikistan, and also help branded Tajik products enter the Chinese market, becoming an envoy of the new Silk Road,” said Temurzoda Amirkhamza, who plans to create a company focused on trade between China and Tajikistan in the future. -0-

QINGDAO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Another China-Europe train carrying Chinese-made goods including excavators, tires and refrigerators departed from the Multimodal Transport Center of the China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the China-SCO Demonstration Zone) in Jiaozhou City, east China's Shandong Province on Monday. It is expected to arrive at Russia's Selyatino station in 15 days.

As of August 26, 450 China-Europe trains have departed from the China-SCO Demonstration Zone since the beginning of this year, a record high compared with the same periods in previous years. They carried 47,000 standard containers (TEU, twenty-foot equivalent unit) of goods, up more than 10,500 TEU or 28.8 percent year-on-year.

To date, direct cross-border rail service has already linked the China-SCO Demonstration Zone Multimodal Transport Center with more than 20 cities in SCO member states.

Data shows that between 6 and 10 trains arrive and depart from the center every day. The maximum number of TEUs handled per day reached 2,000. -0-

Udmurtneft (operated by Rosneft and China Petrochemical Corporation Sinopec) has used the first domestically produced electric mobile drilling rig.

By replacing the traditional diesel engine with an electric drive, the impact on the environment is minimized. In addition, the transition to an electric drilling rig has reduced the company's energy costs by 30%, allowing savings of about 1 million rubles per well.

The rig's lifting capacity is 180 tons, and it moves on a mobile semi-trailer chassis. The driller's workplace is equipped with a comfortable closed cabin with joystick control. The electric power drive has made it possible to speed up preparation for drilling operations by 12 hours and reduce the time for scheduled preventive maintenance.

Currently, the new drilling rig is used at the Mishkinskoye field of Udmurtneft. In the future, the capabilities of the domestic rig will be used at other fields of the enterprise. This autumn, another similar drilling rig is planned to be put into operation.

Leading Moscow architects evaluate Moscow school after reconstruction

Architects and construction industry experts visited one of the capital's renovated schools. They assessed how the educational space had been transformed and noted the program's features "My school". This was reported by the press service of the capital Department of Education and Science.

The tour was attended by the head of conceptual design of the Asadov architectural bureau Valentin Shkuro, the head of the UB Design architectural studio Boris Uborevich-Borovsky, the head of the Studio 911 model workshop Viktor Krylov, the head of the AFA landscape and construction bureau Sergey Tatarinov and the chief architect of the organization Ksenia Golovanova. The specialists saw how the large-scale reconstruction transformed School No. 460 named after twice Heroes of the Soviet Union A.A. Golovachev and S.F. Shutov.

The school building has been completely renovated — from the facade to the classrooms. Instead of the usual corridors, spacious recreation areas with soft sofas, bright poufs and comfortable windowsill seats have appeared. These spaces are not only for relaxation — here you can prepare for lessons, hold extracurricular activities or parent-teacher meetings.

The school canteen has been transformed into a dining hall resembling a trendy café, and the traditional library has been replaced by a modern media library with comfortable spaces for reading, group work and individual work.

Particular attention was paid to classrooms. New equipment was installed in them for studying natural sciences, robotics, programming and other scientific disciplines.

A modern gym with a safe surface and new exercise machines is provided for physical education classes. Sports grounds for basketball, volleyball and mini-football, as well as for passing the standards of the "Ready for Labor and Defense" complex, have appeared on the school grounds. In addition, there are play areas and rest areas with comfortable benches.

"This is a typical project that architects made in the 1960s and 1970s. I liked that the building was easily transformed into a modern space. They removed unnecessary ceilings, made more glass doors. They change the space: it becomes light, open, democratic. If earlier there was no such thing as design, architects thought mainly about engineering, then here the designer's potential was revealed. They selected colors, materials, furniture, lighting and ceiling solutions. The work done commands respect. The interiors are completely ready, everything is thought out to the smallest detail. This design is exactly what the school needs," said the head of the architectural studio Boris Uborevich-Borovsky.

Previously Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, reported that the renovated schools have begun open days. They will last until August 30. From Monday to Friday, they will be organized from 14:00 to 20:00, and on Saturday – from 10:00 to 16:00. Guests will also enjoy training with physical education teachers and lectures from specialists of the City Psychological and Pedagogical Center. To participate, you need pre-registration.

As part of the Moscow Mayor's My School program, educational spaces are becoming more modern and functional. The first four buildings opened after reconstruction on September 1, 2024. This year, 51 students will be welcomed on Knowledge Day renovated school.

Providing schools with modern high-tech equipment helps to optimize the educational process and meets the objectives of the project “All the best for children” of the national project "Youth and Children". Repairs to Luzhnetskaya Embankment Begin

Specialists from the city services complex have begun repairs on Luzhnetskaya Embankment. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Public Utilities and Improvement Petr Biryukov.

"This year, several embankments are planned to be renovated, and we will fill in the joints of the granite facing on each of them. We have started work on Luzhnetskaya Embankment, where we will put the granite facing itself in order and fill in the joints on an area of over 25 thousand square meters," noted Petr Biryukov.

Repair of facing seams begins with sandblasting the stone, then specialists proceed directly to the jointing. The seams between the slabs are cleaned of old filler, washed, then filled with polymer-cement material and rubbed with a waterproof solution. These activities are carried out on each embankment once every five years. They are necessary to ensure safe operation, because over time the material of the seams deteriorates, which can lead to displacement and even loss of granite slabs.

Where necessary, displaced granite and cornice blocks, as well as parapet fencing, will be installed in the design position. In addition, the pedestals will be partially replaced and the cast iron fencing will be painted.

For Muscovites and tourists, the work on Luzhnetskaya Embankment will go almost unnoticed, as scaffolding is being installed on the water side, moving it from site to site.

Sergei Sobyanin spoke about plans for the improvement of Moscow embankments

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — China's General Administration of Customs on Tuesday released statistics showing that trade between China and the Arab League in the January-July period this year reached 1.72 trillion yuan (241.61 billion U.S. dollars), hitting another historical high for the same period. The figure rose 3.2 percent year on year.

In July, China-LAS trade increased by 6.9 percent to 245.31 billion yuan. In particular, China's exports to the LAS amounted to 135.54 billion yuan, while China's imports from the LAS amounted to 109.77 billion yuan in value terms.

Together with the strong complementarity of the economies of China and the Arab League, the mutually beneficial trade structure has given a steady impetus to bilateral trade and economic cooperation. In January-July this year, the Arab League accounted for over 40 percent of China's total crude oil imports. There has also been an increase in the import of natural gas, petroleum products and metal concentrate from the Arab League to China, which has served as an important guarantee for the stable supply of energy resources to China. During this period, China exported electromechanical products worth 557.66 billion yuan to the Arab League, an increase of 22 percent year-on-year.

China has been steadily deepening cooperation with the LAS in the agricultural sector, assisting the organization's countries in modernizing this area and expanding imports of specific agricultural products from these countries. From January to July, China's exports of agricultural machinery and agricultural seeds to the LAS increased by 10.5 percent and 10.4 percent year-on-year, respectively.

China has retained its status as the LAS's largest trading partner for many years. -0-

Exclusive: Soviet-Chinese and later Russian-Chinese friendship has a deep character – expert of IKS RAS

Moscow, August 26 /Xinhua/ – Soviet-Chinese, and later Russian-Chinese friendship has a deep character. This was stated recently in an interview with Xinhua by the head of the Center for World Politics and Strategic Analysis of the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences /ICSA RAS/ Ekaterina Zaklyazminskaya.

E. Zaklyazminskaya noted that the Chinese leader's article, which was published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta in May of this year, raised many important issues of bilateral cooperation. A vivid leitmotif was the narrative about the period of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against the Japanese invaders. The article mentioned the "artery of life" that played a significant role in mutual support in the fight against the fascists.

“The Artery of Life” — this road, about 3 thousand km long, existed during the difficult 1930-1940s — the years of the Japanese occupation of China. It connected the Soviet Union with Northwest China through hard-to-reach territory, including the Gobi Desert.

According to E. Zaklyazminskaya, China supplied the Soviet Union with the necessary raw materials, without which industrial production, including military production, was impossible. “Later, military equipment and weapons were made from these raw materials, which helped our Soviet soldiers in the fight against the fascists, against the German occupiers,” she emphasized.

"This "artery" supplied China with weapons and specialists," said E. Zaklyazminskaya, adding that the Soviet Union provided major military assistance to China through this route. For example, disassembled aircraft were delivered to China, where Soviet specialists trained and prepared Chinese pilots.

In addition, as the expert said, the Ivanovo International Children's Home was opened in the 1930s. Many children of Chinese revolutionaries lived there. "The Chinese children, despite living far from their parents, really wanted to help. They saw that the war had begun, that it was necessary to help, to repel the occupiers, to repel the fascists," E. Zaklyazminskaya said.

According to her, Chinese children, despite the severe frosts in winter, dug anti-tank ditches. They collected empty bottles from which they made explosive mixtures, learned to grow grains and vegetables, and also sewed clothes for the front. “Little kids understood that we must be together, we must work together and only in this way can we win,” the expert emphasized.

She also told the story of Soviet pilot Grigory Kulishenko, who died heroically in China while on a combat mission. “His plane was shot at, and he was seriously wounded. Kulishenko, realizing that the plane would soon fall, led it away from the villages toward the Yangtze River. Because of his wound, G. Kulishenko was unable to get out of the water. But then local residents found his remains and buried them,” she said, adding that in 1958 a monument to Kulishenko was created near the crash site of his plane.

"We also greatly appreciate the fact that the Chinese people carefully preserve the memory of our heroes. And we, of course, hope that the feat of not a single Chinese soldier, not a single Soviet soldier who gave their lives so that now we – their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren – could live a peaceful life will not be forgotten," she added.

“The Soviet-Chinese, and then Russian-Chinese friendship – it has a deep character. Because we are always ready to help each other in all difficult situations,” E. Zaklyazminskaya emphasized. “We in Russia really appreciate that we have such a reliable partner.”

This, according to her, is confirmed by the warm friendly relations between the leaders of Russia and China and their regular meetings, as well as the joint celebration by both countries of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. “This peace was achieved through human lives with great difficulty. Of course, we remember, honor and will continue to deeply cooperate with each other,” added E. Zaklyazminskaya.

Speaking about the current cooperation between Russia and China, E. Zaklyazminskaya noted that it is developing rapidly and is getting stronger every year. The logistics infrastructure is developing, interaction in the industrial, cultural and political spheres is strengthening.

"Our countries often have the same view on issues on the global agenda and coordinate their positions. That is, we see here that the direction of our cooperation includes absolutely all possible aspects," she said.

E. Zaklyazminskaya also emphasized the importance of the Belt and Road initiative, which could become an international “lifeline” today. The initiative proposed by China is aimed at developing infrastructure and deepening economic cooperation between countries. It is valuable for the development of the entire world and is fundamentally different from the initiatives proposed by the West.

“China is pursuing a peaceful policy; it does not have the predatory, colonialist policy that many Western countries have pursued in their interactions with the countries of the Global South,” noted E. Zaklyazminskaya.

The expert also highly praised the Chinese concept of a community with a common destiny for mankind. “This concept was put forward in Russia, at MGIMO. Of course, it is very valuable for us, because it has a global character and represents a peaceful concept of cooperation between states,” she said, adding that China cooperates with other states very carefully, without exerting pressure or coercion.

"There is such a concept of a clash of civilizations, and China puts forward a different concept, which says that civilizations can coexist. In my opinion, everything can be covered by a large umbrella, which is a community with a single destiny of humanity, which can really unite us together, into one big family of humanity," concluded E. Zaklyazminskaya. –0–

Sanya in the grip of Typhoon Kajiki: Warm friendship and mutual assistance between Chinese and Russians

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

SANYA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Typhoon Kajiki, the 13th this year, passed off the coast of southern China's Hainan island province on the evening of Aug. 24, a provincial press conference said Monday. Winds of over 14 force and heavy rain were reported across all parts of Sanya, which was hit by the strongest typhoon on record.

Faced with a serious natural disaster, the city's residents and tourists from Russia who arrived here, by showing mutual assistance, demonstrated by their actions the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

On the evening of August 24, a request for urgent assistance was received at the reception desk of one of the hotels in Sanya: the child of Russian tourist Anastasia Kravtsova was injured and urgently needed to be taken to the hospital.

Heavy rains and strong winds, flooded roads and fallen trees made it difficult for vehicles to move. After learning that the extreme weather conditions would prevent an ambulance from arriving at the hotel in a timely manner, the hotel staff arranged for an ambulance to be dispatched and transported the child to the nearest hospital.

However, due to unstable electrical voltage caused by the typhoon, the hospital was unable to perform an X-ray on the little patient. The hotel staff then took the Russians to the Sanya Central Hospital.

After a preliminary consultation with a doctor, it was decided to admit the child to the hospital for observation and treatment. Given the language barrier and payment issues, the hotel staff paid the Russian guests' medical expenses in advance, and also prepared food for them and provided them with essential items.

Local authorities, having learned about this, sent Russian-speaking guides from a travel agency to the hospital to help doctors communicate with Anastasia. The injured child's condition is currently assessed as stable.

“Our Chinese friends are so caring, we felt at home here,” Anastasia noted with gratitude.

In addition, Russian tourists also voluntarily joined the relief efforts in the aftermath of the typhoon in Sanya.

On August 25, many sections of the city's roads were blocked by broken branches and debris, which seriously hampered traffic. Andrey /not his real name/, a tourist from Russia, volunteered to help the microdistrict employees in eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster.

The Russian, who could only say “nihao” (hello) and “xiexie” (thank you) in Chinese, used apps on his cell phone to ask if anyone needed help. Before the community workers could answer, he grabbed a broken branch and carried it to a garbage truck.

Despite being a guest in this Chinese city, Andrey was full of enthusiasm and acted in silent agreement with others. Together with the employees of the microdistricts, he put broken branches and garbage in the garbage truck and within a few hours the traffic on this section of the highway was restored.

But Andrei shook his hands and quickly left, and the microdistrict employees did not even have time to find out his name.

"This is our job, but I didn't expect a Russian tourist to help us. He gave us a feeling of warmth," said one worker. "The blockage was cleared and our hearts were united." -0-
