Moscow, August 29 /Xinhua/ — Russian President Vladimir Putin's upcoming visit to China will be the main event in Russian-Chinese relations in the second half of this year and will have a broad international resonance, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday, answering a question from a Xinhua correspondent.
“I look at the Chinese press, our press, regional, global, and I see roughly similar assessments everywhere – with different emotional components, but they are roughly the same – the upcoming visit of the President of the Russian Federation to friendly China will be the main event in Russian-Chinese relations in the second half of this year and will have the widest international resonance,” the diplomat said.
As M. Zakharova noted, the head of the Russian state, together with a representative delegation, will take part in a number of events. From August 31 to September 1, the largest port city in northern China, Tianjin, will host the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which will complete another political cycle of the organization's activities and will become the culmination of China's chairmanship.
“We note the proactive and energetic work of our Chinese colleagues, the Chinese presidency in preparing decisions on issues of multilateralism, regional security, sustainable development, as well as the contribution of our Chinese friends to strengthening the SCO as one of the pillars of a more just multipolar world order and enhancing its role as the basis for transforming Eurasia into a space of equal and indivisible security, mutually beneficial cooperation and prosperity,” she emphasized.
The central event of the Russian President's visit to China will be his participation, along with other foreign leaders, in events scheduled for September 3 in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. "Our countries participated in that terrible war on one side – on the right side of history. We did everything to defend our independence, our sovereignty, but also everything to ensure that the world survived the onslaught and pressure of the misanthropic ideology of Nazism, fascism, and Japanese militarism," said M. Zakharova.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the military parade on Tiananmen Square continues a series of large-scale commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. “In May, during a four-day visit to our country, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the anniversary Victory Parade on Red Square, where a ceremonial detachment of servicemen of the People’s Liberation Army of China marched. The decision of the heads of Russia and China to celebrate such significant memorable dates for our peoples together is, of course, a tribute to the feat of our peoples during World War II,” she said.

Zakharova recalled that the Russian President had repeatedly noted that Russia remembers and highly values the contribution of the Chinese people to the common Victory. “The military brotherhood of our peoples, which developed during those harsh war years, is one of the fundamental foundations of modern Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction,” the diplomat noted.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the inviolability of the common positions of Moscow and Beijing in upholding historical truth and justice in the fight against the falsification of history and revisions of the results of World War II. She also said that the war is a special page in the history of her family.
