From August 19 to 23, the Alfa-Bank case championship was held at Krasnaya Polyana in Sochi. The championship consisted of two stages: remote (case solution) and in-person (revision, defense). At the first stage, teams had to develop a new banking product focused on the needs of a youth audience, present a UX prototype and demonstrate the profitability of this idea for the bank. After that, the results of the selection stage were summed up: only 20 teams out of 724 made it to the final, which had to refine their solution: shoot a promo video, develop an MVP demo and, finally, present it to leading Alfa-Bank experts in Sochi.

— Our team is a team of the strongest students in the country. For example, we have already worked together with Alisa German and Daria Yudina from Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Each of us is a winner of a RUB 1 million prize for winning the largest all-Russian competition (Bolshaya Peremena, Tvoy Khod), for which we were included in the state information resource about people who have demonstrated outstanding abilities. We were joined by Olga Somova (NSU), the winner of the All-Russian legal case championship MGIMO Law Championship, who brilliantly worked out the regulatory risks of our fintech product, and Maria Kolobova from OSU, the winner of the International Festival of Sports Programming "Code of the World", who revived our ideas in the interface. We believe that the strength of our team is in its diversity, and the formula for success is ambitions multiplied by expertise in various fields, and the desire to change the world for the better! — shared Alina Churkina, a 4th-year student majoring in Management Faculty of Economics, NSU.

The team's presentation was dedicated to presenting the concept of new banking for Generation Z. The girls analyzed the values of young people and came to the conclusion that zoomers value such things as development, status, and community. The team proposed moving away from the traditional approach, where a bank is perceived solely as a tool for transactions, and presented an emotional-behavioral platform that turns banking into a tool for personal growth. This approach is aimed at forming long-term loyalty and reducing customer churn through integration into the daily life and interests of the young audience. All this is the result of three weeks of intensive work: analyzing the values of Generation Z and the best practices of fintech and lifestyle brands, designing a viable business model with forecasts for monetization and key metrics; developing a product prototype, a promotion plan, and, finally, filming a promo video for its presentation.

— The final stage of the case championship can be divided into the final and the super final. In the final, 20 teams had to present a 2-minute pitch and show a promo video. An hour later, a list of 10 super finalist teams was announced, which had to present their solution to the experts again. In my opinion, the main task in the final was to cope with our emotions: excitement, fear and fatigue after a busy day of presentations. In the super final, we had to not only clearly and convincingly convey the key ideas of our product, but also answer difficult questions from the jury, demonstrating a deep understanding of the market and the needs of the youth audience, — added Olga Somov, a 4th-year student of the Jurisprudence program at the Faculty of Economics of NSU.

Olga and Alina's team made it to the super final (top 10 strongest teams in the country) and, based on its results, became the winner in the nomination "Best Promo Video", for which they were awarded the opportunity to undergo a priority internship at Alfa-Bank.

— Alfa Case Camp is a completely new level of championships. We didn’t just defend the solution, we literally lived it for several days: we discussed non-standard solutions for launching banking products, received personal consultations on pitching and our careers from Alfa Bank top managers. This program gave a unique opportunity not only to present our solution, but also to directly exchange experience with experts who are shaping the future of banking technologies today. Winning the “Best Promo Video” nomination and reaching the top 10 strongest teams in the country confirmed that we not only know how to think strategically, but also implement creative ideas efficiently, which is certainly nice. But the main prize is the people, knowledge and emotions that we took with us! — Alina shared her impressions.

— Participation in the Alpha Case Camp was not only a great opportunity for me to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, but also a unique experience of teamwork in a real business environment. In addition to professional growth, I received a lot of positive emotions from the inspiring atmosphere of the mountain resort, the rich educational program and informal communication with guys from different parts of Russia. This case championship helped me understand how important creativity, flexibility of thinking and the ability to quickly adapt to new challenges are, — Olga added.

NSU Master's student creates open system for diagnostics of lithium-ion batteries

Master's student Faculty of Information Technology Novosibirsk State University, profile "Internet of things", Dmitry Muravyov developed a system for monitoring and diagnostics of lithium-ion batteries. The solution includes a hardware module and a web service and is already available in the public domain for manufacturers and service companies.

The system allows testing batteries in various scenarios, recording their performance indicators and storing the results in a database for subsequent analysis.

— The main goal of the development is to increase the level of safety of devices using lithium-ion batteries as the main power source, — explains the author of the project Dmitry Muravyov. According to him, the development opens up opportunities for conducting not only standard measurements, but also regression and stress tests, which is especially important for checking the reliability of power sources.

Lithium-ion batteries are used everywhere today, from smartphones and laptops to electric vehicles and medical equipment. Their widespread use makes the issue of reliability and diagnostic accuracy especially relevant. Companies that develop or service devices with such batteries are interested in control tools that allow for a quick and objective assessment of the battery condition.

Dmitry Muravyov's development consists of two parts. The hardware part of the device is assembled from widely available components that can be purchased inexpensively on marketplaces. It allows you to set charging and discharging profiles, record operating parameters and transfer them via Wi-Fi to a web service or write them to an SD card. The built-in display shows the indicators in real time. The web service provides control of the device, allows you to set complex testing scenarios and analyze data.

“We made the system as accessible as possible – the code is written in Python, and anyone with basic programming skills can modify it to suit their own needs,” notes Dmitry Muravyov.

According to the project's scientific director, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at NSU Alexander Vlasov, the idea of creating an open system was born as a result of cooperation with the YADRO company, which is the largest domestic manufacturer of computing equipment.

— Batteries are an integral part of many computing devices, and monitoring their condition is necessary both at the production stage and in research tasks at the design stage. We saw that the market lacks accessible open source solutions, so the appearance of such a tool is an important step, — says Alexander Vlasov. The prototype of the solution was created at the YADRO Laboratory at NSU with active consultation of the company's employees.

There are already devices for testing batteries on the market, however, as Dmitry Muravyov explains, they have significant limitations: low measurement accuracy, closed software without the possibility of modification, lack of remote control and flexible testing scenarios.

“The lack of a solution free of these shortcomings became an incentive to create our own system,” the developer emphasizes.

Today, the project is at the MVP (minimum viable product) stage. The system is already operational and allows for various testing scenarios. The limitations are charging voltage up to 4.6 V and maximum current up to 1.6 A. But the main thing is that the solution is completely open: the circuits can be assembled from available components, and the software can be downloaded from GitHub. This makes the system accessible to both researchers and companies that need their own battery quality control tool.

— It is very important that such developments appear in the public domain. In Russia, the segment of battery testing tools is poorly developed, and the emergence of publicly available solutions develops the entire industry. This is useful both for the IT business and for the country as a whole. In the YADRO laboratory, we try to promote exactly such useful projects from the point of view of the general infrastructure. Directly, in a project like Dmitry's, it is difficult to trace the benefit, but we hope that our devices, which we use every day, will become a little safer and more reliable, — notes Alexander Vlasov.

Dmitry Muravyov himself emphasizes that he is ready to develop the project if interested partners appear. In the meantime, his system has already found practical application: a similar device was assembled and tried to be used by one of the Novosibirsk organizations working with equipment, where it is also necessary to test power elements.

TIANJIN, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday highlighted a series of achievements made at the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

The summit, the largest since the creation of the SCO in 2001, was attended by leaders of more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, said that the summit approved the SCO development strategy for the period 2026-2035, which determines the leitmotif and direction of the organization's development in the next 10 years.

As the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported at a meeting with journalists, which he held jointly with SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev, statements were also made at the summit on protecting the results of the Victory in World War II and on supporting the multilateral trading system.

Wang Yi noted that four new centers were opened during the event: one to combat security threats and challenges, one to combat transnational organized crime, one to strengthen information security, and one to strengthen cooperation in the fight against drugs.

The member states also decided to establish the SCO Development Bank, which, according to the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, will actively promote the construction of infrastructure and the socio-economic development of the SCO countries.

During the summit, Wang Yi continued, China promised to establish new cooperation platforms and centers in areas such as energy, green industry, digital economy, scientific and technological innovation, higher education and vocational education. In addition, action plans were drawn up to promote high-quality development, covering sectors such as energy, green industry, digital economy, artificial intelligence and scientific and technological innovation.

Wang Yi added that the summit also marked a breakthrough in the structural reform of the organization: observer states and dialogue partner states were united into the category of SCO partners, which included Laos, expanding the SCO to 27 member states. –0–

PRAGUE, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — Former Czech Prime Minister and leader of the opposition movement Action of Dissatisfied Citizens (ANO) Andrej Babis was hit on the head with a metal object during an election rally on Monday, the Czech News Agency reported.

As the agency specified, citing an official representative of ANO, the attack took place in the village of Dobra in the east of the country. A. Babiš, who served as prime minister from 2017 to 2021, was taken to hospital for examination after the incident.

The severity of his injury has not yet been reported.

Czech police said on social media site X that officers at the scene detained a man immediately after the attack and an investigation is currently underway.

ANO First Deputy Chairman Karel Havlíček said in X that the incident was one of the consequences of a “hate campaign” that, according to him, was unleashed by political rivals.

Commenting on the incident, Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan stressed that violence in any form is unacceptable.

"I unequivocally condemn today's attack on Andrej Babiš. Let us strive for a better future for our country through a clash of arguments and ideas, not through physical violence," he wrote in X. –0–

KAMPALA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday said investment from China is helping boost Africa's growth, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure and industry.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day Financing for Development Summit in the capital, Kampala, Mr Museveni said both public and private Chinese capital was playing a vital role in implementing transport and energy projects, which he said were key to unlocking the continent's development potential.

Participants at the summit, titled “Transforming Africa through National Development Finance Architecture,” noted the important role of private investors from China in establishing industrial parks across Africa. The Ugandan president said such parks not only help reduce import costs but also create thousands of jobs for youth.

“Unlike Western lenders, the Chinese are taking advantage of Africa’s opportunities and investing in what promises good returns,” Museveni stressed, calling on Western financiers to follow China’s example and provide affordable loans to African countries instead of leaving them at the mercy of private lenders charging exorbitant interest rates.

China has financed the construction of two large hydroelectric power plants in Uganda – the 600 MW Karuma hydroelectric power plant and the 180 MW Isimba hydroelectric power plant.

The summit, which brings together government officials, heads of national development banks and multilateral financial institutions, aims to rethink strategies for financing sustainable growth in African countries. Discussions will focus on addressing debt burdens, mobilizing resources and exploring opportunities in agriculture, technology and services. –0–

TIANJIN, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — The global governance initiative was put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping at a most opportune moment when the world is facing challenges such as frequent regional instability, slowing economic growth and the rise of forces opposing globalization, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a joint meeting with journalists with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev.

The Chinese diplomat clarified that the Global Governance Initiative put forward by Xi Jinping at the SCO Plus meeting includes five principles: ensuring sovereign equality, upholding the international rule of law, implementing multilateralism, implementing a human-centered approach, and focusing on action.

At the same time, as Wang Yi noted, the spirit of this initiative is fully consistent with the goals and principles of the UN Charter.

According to him, the initiative aims to firmly support the central role of the UN in international affairs and to engage countries in reforming the global governance system, building on multilateral mechanisms such as the UN, to ensure a more effective response to challenges.

As Wang Yi pointed out, the Global Governance Initiative is the fourth landmark global initiative put forward by the Chinese president in recent years, following the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative.

Wang Yi pointed out that these four initiatives bring stability and certainty to a turbulent world, reflecting China's active role and sense of responsibility in international affairs.

China will continue to stand on the side of multilateralism, advocate unity over division, and cooperation over confrontation, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry assured.

He added that China will strengthen coordination with the UN and all other parties to implement the Global Governance Initiative and build a fairer and more reasonable global governance system. –0–
