Rana Mitter, professor of American-Asian relations at Harvard University's Kennedy School, told reporters that the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a "very important part" of the World Anti-Fascist War and China's contribution to World War II should be more visible.

Mitter said that after the Lugou Bridge Incident on July 7, 1937, Japan's war of aggression against China was in full swing. At the time, most foreign observers thought China's chances of victory were slim, but China put up a determined fight and the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression "changed everything."

Mitter is the author of China, the Forgotten Ally: The Complete History of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in My Eyes. In his view, after Japan launched a full-scale war of aggression against China, China's stubborn resistance was of great importance. Millions of Japanese soldiers were sent to the Chinese front rather than to other parts of the Asia-Pacific region. Without China's contribution, it would have been "especially difficult" to achieve a common victory for the anti-fascist coalition.

Specialists from the city economy complex have begun rehabilitating the cascade of Yasenevskiye ponds in the southwest of the capital. Their total area is 1.4 hectares. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Public Utilities and Improvement Petr Biryukov.

"The Upper, Middle and Lower Yasenevskiye ponds are located on the territory of the park on Paustovsky Street, this is a favorite place for local residents to relax. But now the reservoirs are in an unsatisfactory condition: large volumes of silt deposits have accumulated at the bottom, which has led to a decrease in depth and active overgrowth of algae, and the destruction of coastal strips is observed. In this regard, a decision was made to carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation of the ponds," said Pyotr Biryukov.

The ponds will be cleared of silt deposits, the total volume of which is more than three thousand cubic meters. Then specialists will form the bed of the reservoirs and install a water-resistant layer, which will increase the maximum depth to the required marks.

After that, the structure of the coastal strip, over 800 meters long, will be repaired using gravel and crushed stone. Three zones of the bioplateau with an area of over 348 square meters will be updated here. In the warm season, about 5.7 thousand aquatic plants will be planted on them. The work of the water discharge structures will also be restored. The rehabilitation of the ponds is planned to be completed by the end of this year.

The city's water bodies are regularly inspected. If problems are identified, a decision is made on rehabilitation. The list of water bodies is compiled annually taking into account the wishes of Muscovites. This year, 19 capital ponds are planned to be renovated.

This year, 19 reservoirs will be put in order in Moscow

A new school building for 300 students was built in the Presnensky district

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

A school building with an area of over 6.6 thousand square meters was built in the center of the capital using city budget funds. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction Vladimir Efimov.

"A new educational facility for 300 children with an area of over 6.6 thousand square meters has been built in the Presnensky District. It was built as part of the capital's Address Investment Program. The project was based on the idea of creating a unique element of social infrastructure with efficient use of the existing territory. The site is located on two terraces with a difference of almost two meters. By increasing the height of the school to five floors and its U-shaped configuration, it was possible to minimize the development area, create spacious areas for recreation and sports, harmoniously fit the building into the surrounding landscape, and also maintain the ability to drive emergency services. The building appeared at the address: Bolshoy Tishinsky Pereulok, Building 39," said Vladimir Efimov.

The modern infrastructure of the educational building is focused on the comfort and socialization of children.

"The school offers everything necessary for the development of technical and creative thinking – from an IT polygon and 3D programming to classrooms that take into account the requirements for the modern educational process. There is a media library, sports and gymnastics halls, a dining hall with panoramic windows. All the main areas of the school have access to the courtyard. Corridors and recreation areas are concentrated around the central multifunctional multi-light space located between the first and third floors," said the head of the Moscow City Civil Engineering Department.

Alexey Alexandrov.

The central part of the facade is completely glazed. The entrance lobby and recreation area are located behind the transparent elements. The end part of the northern facade contains a recreation area, which can be accessed from the dining room.

The building is distinguished by its original architecture, its unusual shape is given by the breaks on the parapets, as well as the volumetric elements on the facade, made of clinker tiles and metal cassettes. Due to the large number of windows, a lot of sunlight penetrates into the building.

The school yard was landscaped, with picturesque recreation areas separated by lawns, bushes and trees, and sports grounds were also equipped.

Particular attention was paid to the safety of students and staff: the territory is fenced, and gates and wickets with intercom systems are installed for passage. In addition, the school has created conditions for children with disabilities.

Earlier, Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the completion of construction educational building in the Presnensky district. The construction of educational facilities in the central districts of Moscow underlines the pragmatic approach to the development of urban infrastructure and the focus on creating a balanced environment in which the learning process becomes accessible to every young resident of the capital.

Festival "Moscow and Muscovites. Journey through the Epochs" will take place on September 14 in the Izmailovo district. Participants will be presented with the program "Peter the Great's Moscow". Each guest will be able to get acquainted with the era of Peter the Great through a variety of cultural events.

The festival will take place at the project's district site "Summer in Moscow" at the intersection of Izmailovsky Boulevard and 9th Parkovaya Street. Starts at 12:00.

The venue was not chosen by chance: it was here, in Izmailovo, that young Pyotr Alekseevich found the famous boat "Saint Nicholas". It inspired the future reformer to create a powerful Russian fleet, which played a key role in the formation of Russia as a great maritime power and its further development.

Take a ride in a carriage and go to a ball

The central event of the festival will be a ball in the style of the 18th century. The gentlemen will be in elegant camisoles, and the ladies – in magnificent dresses decorated with lace and embroidery. Master classes in ancient dances will be held for guests. You can take a souvenir photo in a historical costume in a themed photo zone.

For lovers of active recreation, horse-drawn carriage rides await. This is an opportunity to experience the luxury of 18th century travel, enjoy nature and the living decorations of the festival.

All events will be accompanied by symphonic music. Performers will present a program inspired by the spirit of Peter the Great's Russia. In addition, instrumental folklore will be performed.

Mint a coin and tie a sailor's knot

Guests will see a bright theatrical performance. Actors will show short scenes illustrating moments from the era of Peter I. For example, viewers will learn how the famous process of cutting boyars' beards took place, which became an important symbol of the reforms of that time.

To make the immersion into history complete, the program included many master classes: coin minting, blacksmithing, writing with a quill, historical dancing, making carnival masks, and even tying sea knots.

Fans of folk games will also find a lot of interesting things for themselves. Entertainment includes the game "Igornitsa" and the themed quest "Storming the Fort", which combines relay races with safe obstacles and tactical tasks. Guests can also enjoy jumping in sacks, tug-of-war, the game "Golden Gate", trinkets, chess and checkers.

Admission to the festival is free, without age restrictions. No pre-registration is required.

Modern technologies for good deeds. Capital entrepreneurs talk about charity, responsibility and support of the city

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Moscow is a city of good deeds. All caring people, including entrepreneurs and manufacturing companies, join charity events and programs. They support those who need it, implement sports, scientific and social projects.

On International Charity Day, which is celebrated on September 5, a mos.ru correspondent learned what good initiatives Moscow entrepreneurs are implementing, who they are helping, and what social responsibility of business is.

Smart Medallion for Guide Dogs

The leading Russian developer and manufacturer of smart cards and RFID identifiers for various sectors of the economy, Smart Systems, decided several years ago to abandon part of its internal corporate costs and direct the funds to charity. Today, the company is implementing several good projects on an ongoing basis.

"It is important for businesses to participate in all areas of city life, including charitable, social, educational, and research projects. Successful companies are usually the first to test, implement, and use cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements. They have resources and unique products that can change someone's life for the better and bring specific, tangible benefits. We are implementing several good initiatives – from funding scientific projects to direct deliveries of goods free of charge," said Nikita Kozhemyakin, CEO of the company.

Thus, the enterprise supports the training and canine center "Assistant Dogs" and the school for training guide dogs of the All-Russian Society of the Blind. The organizations are supplied with syringes for chipping animals and smart medallions of their own design free of charge.

"The medallion has an NFC tag built into it. If you touch it with a smartphone or scan the QR code, the website of the canine organization will open. It says that this is a service dog and needs to be returned to its owner as soon as possible, and you can also find contact information, learn the animal's name, and ways to help it not get nervous when separated from its owner. In 2025, the medallion joined the collection of the Technical Museum in Brno (Czech Republic), where it became an exhibit of the "Culture of the Blind" exhibition and took pride of place next to the silver commemorative coin of Louis Braille," added Nikita Kozhemyakin.

In addition, the company is donating paper to the All-Russian Society of the Blind for the production of certificates for visually impaired people with an NFC tag. It leads to a page containing important legal information. This makes it easier for a person to confirm that they need to go to a café or clinic accompanied by a service dog.

Grants for good deeds and digital desks

Participation in good initiatives has become a tradition for companies – residents of the special economic zone (SEZ) "Technopolis Moscow".

For example, the pharmaceutical company Binnopharm Group holds a grant competition called “Give Good.” The company’s employees can receive funds to implement their ideas — from landscaping and repairing social institutions to creating creative spaces for children.

Other initiatives also receive support: collecting humanitarian aid, the New Year's campaign "Yolka Dobra", visits to animal shelters. The company's employees organized an inclusive picnic, purchased special desks for home schooling for children with musculoskeletal disorders and mental disabilities, paid for the work of nannies in families where they were needed.

Another company, a resident of the SEZ, NexTouch, implements many good projects to support education, inclusive education, youth initiatives, scientific research, and also helps those who find themselves in a difficult life situation. The company equips children's hospices, schools, libraries, medical institutions and veterans' organizations throughout Russia with interactive panels, digital desks, projection systems and other modern equipment free of charge. The devices can be used by people with hearing, vision and motor impairments.

"Charity has become one of the company's missions. Modern technological devices should be accessible to everyone without exception and improve the quality of life. For example, the induction system we developed, which allows people with hearing impairments to receive information, we install free of charge in all manufactured devices by default. Charitable support is also provided both within the framework of the company's systemic, regular projects, and through targeted charity events," said Vladimir Krikushenko, the company's general director.

The company's employees are happy to participate in good campaigns. For example, they deliver humanitarian aid to residents of new regions of Russia and medical care products to hospice patients, and become blood donors. The company's employees also actively helped organize a large tournament for blind football players.

Customization of clothes and children's drawings

Good initiatives are also implemented by the project participants "Made in Moscow"They support people with cancer, orphans and animals in shelters.

"The project companies receive support from the city, feel their responsibility and strive to help those who are in particular need. Many charity events are related to helping participants in a special military operation and inclusion. In addition, we provide a site on Bolotnaya Square for charity meetings. There is a stage, screens, a tribune, trade equipment and other necessary infrastructure," said Alexander Belyaev, head of the Made in Moscow project.

Clothing manufacturer WKS offers customers to buy a stylish tortuga (waterproof jacket) and immediately order a unique decoration for it – embroidery with an image of a dog. The funds received from customization are sent to the rehabilitation center for temporarily homeless animals "Yuna". Another Moscow brand, TintBerry, created a limited series of nail polish and began to transfer part of the proceeds from its sale to a center for rescuing orphaned bears in the Tver region.

Cosmetics maker Eat My teams up with foundation "Butterfly Children", which helps children with epidermolysis bullosa. The summer series of lip balms came out with labels created by the foundation's wards, and the proceeds from sales go to the treatment and rehabilitation of children. Another brand, La Fabrique, collaborated with the Konstantin Khabensky Foundation and donated part of the proceeds for three months to help children and young people with brain tumors.

The United Europe Holding Group of Companies has launched a charity project called "Give Joy". Buyers are offered body care products and household chemicals with unusual labels, the layouts for which were drawn by children from the organizations under their care. The project supports the Bolohovskaya School for students with disabilities in the Tula Region, as well as the Pokrov and Kovcheg children's centers. Almost 200 children live in them.

If part of the proceeds from the sale are directed to good deeds, then each buyer becomes a benefactor. To help, it is enough to buy a useful product.

Everyone can contribute and support those in need with the help of charity service on the mos.ru portal. To do this, you can select one or more NPOs and make a transfer. For those who find it difficult to make a choice, there is the “Help everyone” option. Then the payment will be divided equally between all the charitable programs in the category. You can also help the selected organizations regularly: to do this, you need to log in to the mos.ru portal and after the first transfer, click on the “Connect auto payment” button. This form of support allows non-profit organizations to plan their activities, increase the number of wards and launch long-term assistance programs.

Countries around the world have a shared responsibility to promote a correct understanding of the history of World War II and to uphold international justice – report

BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — Correctly understanding the history of World War II, resolutely safeguarding the post-war world order, firmly upholding international impartiality and justice, preventing the resurgence of fascism and preventing the repetition of historical tragedies are the best way to honor the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and a common responsibility that all countries should shoulder, a think tank said in a report released Friday.

The report, titled “Historical Retrospect, Upholding Justice – The Great Contribution of the Main Theater of War in the East to the World Anti-Fascist War,” was published by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the news agency of the same name.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

According to the report, revealing the historical truth is a prerequisite for better creation of the future. Currently, there are still misconceptions in the approach to the history of World War II. Only by respecting history and advocating an objective and fair position can we deeply understand and learn from historical experience and open the way to the future.

The report stresses the need to resolutely oppose erroneous views and actions aimed at justifying aggression and distorting history, objectively present a complete picture of the World Anti-Fascist War, and correctly recognize the historical contributions of the peoples of the world and the Chinese people.

The Second World War profoundly changed the world order and the course of human history. Faced with the catastrophic consequences of military action, various countries made every effort to avoid new wars and maintain peace. Thanks to these efforts, international organizations and mechanisms, with the UN at their core, were gradually created and fundamental norms governing international relations were established. This played an important role in maintaining global peace over the next 8 decades, the report notes.

The document also calls for strong support for a UN-centric international system, the continued promotion of an equitable and orderly multipolar world, and the continued promotion of equitable and inclusive economic globalization.

It also stresses the need to vigilantly confront the resurgence of fascism, implement genuine multilateralism and promote the formation of a fairer and more reasonable system of global governance in order to firmly uphold international justice. -0-

Chinese-Russian film "Red Silk" premieres in Beijing

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People's Republic of China – State Council News

On September 4, the China Film International Cinema in Beijing hosted the premiere of the Chinese-Russian film "Red Silk". The premiere was attended by Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, General Director of China Media Corporation Shen Haixiong, Executive Vice Director of the State Film Administration of the People's Republic of China Mao Yu, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Russian National Media Group Alina Kabaeva and Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov.

In the 76 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, humanitarian exchanges and cooperation between the two countries have continued to deepen. Cinema, as a means of interlingual communication and a cultural conductor, serves as an important connecting node that promotes emotional resonance between the two peoples and preserves common historical memory. On September 1, the 2025 Russian Film Festival kicked off simultaneously in Beijing, Xining (Qinghai Province) and Lanzhou (Gansu Province). The film "Red Silk" is a concrete step towards implementing the initiative of the heads of state on cultural exchanges and promoting cooperation in the field of cinematography within the framework of the Cross Years of Culture between China and Russia in 2024-2025.

In his speech, Fu Ruoqing, Chairman of China Film Group, said that the film "Red Silk" is an important testimony to the cultural exchange and mutual learning, as well as the deepening friendship between China and Russia. He expressed hope to continue cooperation with Russian filmmakers, using cinema to inject new vitality into Sino-Russian cultural exchanges.

In her speech, Svetlana Balanova, President of the Russian National Media Group, expressed gratitude to the Chinese side. She said that the Red Silk project will undoubtedly become a model of cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Russia, laying a solid foundation for deepening cultural integration between the two countries.

At the event, dozens of key creators of the film "Red Silk" from China and Russia took to the stage.

The film, which previously received high praise from critics and was a box office success upon its release in Russia, is being called a project that “blazes a Silk Road for Chinese-Russian joint film production.” Its appearance on Chinese screens will not only allow more Chinese viewers to experience the charm of Russian culture, but will also further strengthen the friendship between the peoples of both countries.

Fruitful exchanges in the film industry have taken place between China and Russia this year. In May, the "2025 Chinese Film Festival" was successfully held in Moscow, Kazan and St. Petersburg, and the "2025 Russian Film Festival" is currently being held in China. The release of "Red Silk" in China is the latest achievement of the fruitful cooperation between filmmakers of the two countries. Film industry representatives from both countries intend to take this opportunity to further strengthen creative exchanges and deepen cooperation in film production. They are eager to create more joint films that combine content, artistry and entertainment, thereby giving new impetus to Sino-Russian people-to-people exchanges and the development of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the new era.

The film "Red Silk" will be released in Chinese cinemas on September 6.
