BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — A report released at a regular session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Wednesday showed that China has made significant progress in responding to climate change and moving toward the goals of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.

According to the report, which was presented by Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu on behalf of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, China has built the world's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system, developed the most complete industrial chain related to the use of new energy sources, and created a quarter of the world's new green space.

China's reduction in carbon intensity and the share of non-fossil fuels in its energy mix are broadly in line with expected progress toward the country's 2030 national targets, while installed wind and solar power capacity and forest resources have already reached targets ahead of schedule, the report said.

The report said China has made significant progress in energy transition and industrial transformation, with non-fossil energy accounting for 60.9 percent of total installed capacity as of the end of June 2025.

Progress has also been made in other sectors, including green building, clean and low-carbon transport and a national carbon trading market, the report said, also highlighting the important contribution China has made to global climate governance.

Huang Runqiu said that China faces complex challenges in controlling carbon emission intensity as it must move from peak carbon emissions to carbon neutrality in the shortest time in history and achieve sharp emission reductions while advancing the green transition amid the complex and serious situation of international climate governance.

The report calls for continued implementation of the national climate change strategy, sustainable progress towards carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, and the formulation and advancement of the country's 2035 nationally defined targets to promote green, low-carbon and high-quality development. -0-

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — China has always been a global force for peace, stability and progress, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin said Wednesday.

He made the statement at a regular departmental press conference, commenting at the request of the media on the reactions of international think tanks and foreign media to China's military parade on September 3, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. Many of them focused on the country's strategic land-sea-air forces, such as the nuclear triad, unmanned weapons and cyber troops.

According to Jiang Bin, the parade was an important part of the commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.

He noted that many of the weapons and equipment presented at the parade were the latest and reflected the evolution of modern warfare. In addition, they concentratedly demonstrated the systemic combat capability, the ability to wage war in new areas and of new quality, as well as the frightening power of the strategic forces of the Chinese army.

He added that China always pursues a defense policy that is defensive in nature and never seeks hegemony or expansion.

China will always be a global force for peace, stability and progress. The stronger the Chinese military becomes, the more powerful will be the peaceful forces that restrain wars, and the better will peace and development be ensured, Jiang Bin concluded. -0-

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — China has officially started using a domestically produced nine-valent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as the first dose of the vaccine was administered in Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province, on Tuesday.

Mass HPV vaccination will provide more comprehensive and accessible prevention of cervical cancer in women aged 9 to 45 years.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide, and an estimated 700,000 cases of cancer are linked to HPV each year, including about 530,000 cases of cervical cancer, with the remainder being of the anus, vulva, penis and others.

Vaccination is an important line of defense. When used correctly, the vaccine is 94 percent effective in preventing HPV infection. -0-

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — On Teachers' Day in China on Wednesday, the honorary title of "most beautiful teachers" in 2025 was awarded to 24 teachers and a group of graduates from Baoding University who volunteered to teach in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region after graduating.

Today, the country celebrates the Day of Education Workers for the 41st time.

Those awarded the honorary titles were recognized as exemplary representatives of China's 18.85 million-strong teaching force, the largest in the world's education system.

They include special education teachers who have developed a variety of teaching resources for students with special needs, teachers who have worked for a long time in schools in central and western China and schools in rural areas, and teachers who have made significant contributions to national policy initiatives and research.

For more than 30 years, Ding Meizhen, from the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai, and her team have worked to improve the education of students with special needs, developing 38 courses, over a hundred teaching aids, and an intelligent platform for identifying the needs of students with disabilities in regular classrooms.

In 2000, amid a national push to develop the country's western regions, 15 graduates from Baoding University in northern China's Hebei Province decided to begin teaching in Xinjiang, thousands of miles from their home region, turning down numerous job offers and opportunities to continue their education. Despite the difficult conditions, they never gave up, dedicating themselves to developing education in the remote region. -0-

GUANGZHOU, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — A cluster of world-class airports is rapidly emerging in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), marking a milestone in regional infrastructure development. The ambitious project will integrate several major airports and aim to create a unified and efficient aviation network.

On July 30, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport successfully completed the flight test of Runway 5, making it the second airport in China and the first in the RBC with 5 runways. Shortly after, on August 3, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport completed the calibration of Runway 3, paving the way for its operation within a year.

With the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport coming into operation in November 2024, the RBC currently has 13 runways and will soon have 15. In addition to the above major hubs, other airports in the RBC are also implementing their expansion projects.

The aviation infrastructure of the RBC includes three hub airports (Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong), two major airports (Zhuhai and Macao) and two regional airports (Huizhou and Foshan), which together serve more than 200 destinations worldwide.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan, released in February 2019, calls for building a world-class airport cluster. It emphasizes strengthening and upgrading Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub, enhancing its function as an aviation management training center, and enhancing the competitiveness of Guangzhou and Shenzhen international airports.

In addition, the document aims to improve the performance of airports in Macao and Zhuhai, while promoting complementary development and positive interaction between airports in the region.

In 2024, the total passenger traffic of 7 airports of the RBC exceeded 200 million person-times, which reflects the increased viability of the urban agglomeration and the sustainable, positive economic development of the cities of the region. Such high figures indicate the benefits of the ongoing airport expansion projects in the region.

Meanwhile, significant progress has been made in infrastructure development, including the construction of new terminals and the development of transport links between the airports. Advanced technologies are being introduced to streamline operations and improve the passenger experience across the network.

The International Air Transport Association forecasts that by 2030, air passenger and cargo traffic in the RBC will reach 387 million person-times and 20 million tons, respectively.

The airport cluster in the RBC is currently forming a multi-layer network, including “Hong Kong as an international transit hub, Guangzhou as an Asia-Pacific hub, and Shenzhen as a hub for direct flights to emerging markets”, covering major global economies and emerging markets, demonstrating strong global interconnectivity.

Hong Kong International Airport offers connections to major cities in the Asia-Pacific region within a 4-hour flight, and more than half of the world's population lives within a 5-hour flight.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport serves about 75 international passenger routes and 46 international cargo routes weekly. Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport serves more than 50 international and regional destinations, with more than 800 flights per week.

Wang Guowen, director of the Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the China (Shenzhen) Institute of Comprehensive Development, said the expansion of the airport cluster will not only turn RBS into an air logistics hub connecting China with the outside world, but will also reduce corporate logistics costs in the region, promote free movement and efficient distribution of economic factors, and drive RBS's transformation from a "world factory" to a "world market." -0-
