BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation in metrology with competent authorities of Mongolia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan at the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, which became one of the results of cooperation within the organization, according to a statement posted on the SAMR's official Wechat account.

The move marks the deepening and strengthening of cooperation between China and other countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative in the areas of technology and trade, the post said.

According to the report, as the tasks outlined in the documents are completed, there will be more opportunities for China to cooperate with Mongolia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan in building metrological infrastructure, simplifying trade procedures and technological coordination, and trade and economic ties will become closer.

Interconnectivity in the metrology field will effectively reduce technical barriers to trade, improve the fairness and efficiency of trade, and thereby promote economic globalization, the post said. -0-

ZHENGZHOU, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — With the global launch of Apple's iPhone 17 series, China's advanced manufacturing ecosystem is once again playing a key role in bringing Apple's latest products to markets around the world.

At the center of these efforts is Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant, capital of Henan Province in central China, one of the world's largest iPhone assembly sites and a symbol of the country's electronics manufacturing scale.

The plant is operating at full capacity, expanding its workforce to meet global demand for Apple smartphones. Long lines of applicants form outside the recruiting center every morning, indicating the high demand for labor needed to produce the new iPhones.

"The recruitment center has been receiving thousands of applicants daily since the end of July, and this situation is expected to continue until the end of September," said Fan Siming, assistant deputy head of the human resources department of Foxconn's Zhengzhou Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

As a major hub for high-end iPhone production, Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant plays a key role in meeting international demand. At the peak of iPhone production, Foxconn typically employs tens of thousands of workers, many of whom work short-term in assembly, quality control, and packaging roles, taking advantage of China's vast human resources and sophisticated infrastructure.

“A three-month job at Foxconn is expected to earn my wife and me more than 40,000 yuan (about $5,600), which is much higher than the average income in Henan Province,” Zhao Yanhui, a Henan resident who has just started working at Foxconn for the first time, told Xinhua.

He also expressed hope that the company's personnel training program will help him stay at the plant for a long time.

“Henan Province, with a permanent population of nearly 100 million, provides Foxconn with sufficient human resources,” Fang Siming emphasized, adding that the company has enjoyed strong support from local authorities in the construction of workshops, recruitment of personnel and efficient logistics for more than a decade.

The long-standing partnership has helped expand the scale and speed of Apple's global supply chain, with analysts adding that Zhengzhou's strategic location and advanced logistics network further enhance the chain's efficiency.

From Zhengzhou, newly assembled iPhones are shipped around the world via the multimodal air-rail-road transportation system. As a major transportation hub in Central China, the metropolis serves 8 intercontinental air cargo routes, linking more than 100 cities in 24 countries in Europe, America and Asia.

At the Zhengzhou plant, scale and innovation are evident at every turn. Often referred to as a “city within a city,” the factory complex includes more than 10 areas of worker apartments and a canteen that can accommodate 12,000 people at a time, complete with AI-powered automated kitchens. This combination of efficiency and worker well-being helps maintain consistent productivity and meet strict production schedules.

“With Foxconn’s production lines running, the goal is clear,” said Sun Xuemin, head of Zhengzhou University’s Center for Enterprise Research. “This massive, coordinated effort in China is the engine that turns innovation into a tangible product ready for delivery to consumers around the world.” -0-

XIAMEN, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — Global investors are increasingly pouring their money into sustainable development and emerging markets, according to participants at the Future Investment Conference held Monday as part of the 25th China International Investment and Trade Fair in the coastal city of Xiamen in east China's Fujian Province.

As noted at the event, this shift comes amid global challenges. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) World Investment Report 2025, foreign direct investment (FDI) worldwide fell by 11 percent in 2024, marking the second consecutive year of decline.

Pedro Manuel Moreno, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD, noted at the conference that the key challenge is not just mobilizing investment, but also channeling it to where it is most needed. “It is important that capital flows to where it is most needed and can have the greatest impact,” he stressed.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Vice Minister of Commerce of China Lin Ji emphasized the growing role of "green" industries. "Green has become the basis of international investment," he said.

He also pointed to new opportunities in photovoltaics, wind power, carbon capture and electric vehicles, noting that a third of China's electricity is already generated from renewable sources.

More than 20 percent of the country's steel is made from recycled scrap, and China's fleet of new energy vehicles (NEVs) has exceeded 30 million units, he added.

The global energy transformation is irreversible, said Xu Zhonghua, vice president of TotalEnergies China. A recent report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that global energy investment will reach $3.3 trillion this year, with two-thirds of that going to clean energy projects.

Meanwhile, business insiders believe that capital is spreading across more diverse regions, with emerging markets such as ASEAN and Africa gaining momentum. According to UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2025, FDI inflows to ASEAN countries grew by 10 percent in 2024, while Africa saw a staggering 75 percent growth.

During the event, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol described his country as a “natural bridge between China, ASEAN and the rest of the world,” highlighting the country’s strengths such as its numerous free trade agreements and commitment to sustainable growth.

Obaid Amran, CEO of Moroccan Ithmar Capital, noted that Africa, despite the lack of funding, offers high returns on investment, highlighting the strong interest in the manufacturing, energy, digital and logistics sectors.

While participants acknowledged persistent challenges such as trade protectionism and investment barriers, the prevailing view was that international cooperation remains the leitmotif of investment.

“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together,” Sun Chantol quoted an African proverb. -0-

Another work season of the Polytechnic student teams is coming to an end. As always, it brought a lot of new impressions, bright emotions and unusual experience. For Anna Kurakina from the service team "Altair" this summer was special. The 4th-year student of the IPMEiT majoring in "Human Resources Management" joined the headquarters of the All-Russian service project "Gelendzhik". As a foreman, she coordinated the activities of the joint student team of the same name.

The project participants worked in the hotels "METROPOL Grand Hotel Gelendzhik 5*" and "Primorye Grand Resort Hotel". 130 students from ten regions of Russia worked as maids, cooks, bartenders, waiters, laundry operators, housekeepers, creating a premium service for city guests. Before employment, each of them mastered an additional working profession for free.

For Anna Kurakina, participation in the all-Russian project was not accidental. Back in 2023, the girl took first place in the "Cook" competency at the professional skills competition of student service teams in St. Petersburg. In 2024, she entered the top three winners of this competition in the "Maid" competency at the city level and became the winner in the Northwestern Federal District.

"For me, the Gelendzhik project is, first of all, an opportunity to meet interesting people. Here, representatives of different regions exchange experiences, talk about themselves, this helps to develop the squad's horizons and take note of something," Anna shared her impressions of participating in the project. "I also tell everyone about the St. Petersburg squads, our traditions, events. It is very pleasant when the commander of one of the squads comes to you and says that he really liked "Svoy Zal" – a festival of non-professional short films shot by fighters of the student squads of St. Petersburg! Being a master of the all-Russian labor project is, of course, difficult, but no less interesting. Every day brings new challenges, and we solve them all together."
