BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — Experts have presented innovative strategies to promote traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services in the international market, with a focus on Central Asian countries and Russia, at the ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS-2025) in Beijing.

At the TCM International Cooperation Forum on Trade in Services, Li Jun, director of the Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, noted that the growth of China's services exports has already outpaced the growth of goods exports.

He stressed the need to exploit the global opportunities created by the growth of medical tourism by integrating the unique benefits of TCM with cross-border medical services.

According to forum participants, TCM is becoming a new growth point for Chinese services exports within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.

Chen Yuzhuo, Chairman of the Committee on Integration of Medicine and Health of the World Federation of TCM Societies, emphasized the prospects of the “TCM Silver Economy” model to address the problems of global population aging.

“The unique advantages of TCM in disease prevention, treatment of chronic diseases and rehabilitation should be fully utilized,” he said.

A striking example of TCM's successful entry into the international arena was shared by Huang Bingzhu, director of the Xixuntan Chinese Medicine Exhibition Hall at the Sanya Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The institution is active both in the domestic market and abroad, offering rehabilitation services to foreign guests.

To overcome cultural and language barriers, Sanya Hospital has developed a hands-on approach to training, focusing on mastering specific skills. “The training focuses on practical skills rather than complex theory. Students learn 1-2 specific techniques that they can immediately apply in practice,” Huang Bingzhu explained.

"In Central Asian countries and Russia, large-scale TCM projects such as thick-needle acupuncture and massage are gaining popularity. Russian tourists in Sanya often look for such services, along with beach holidays and dentistry," Huang Bingzhu added.

“15 years ago, I tried traditional Chinese medicine for the first time, and the result was excellent,” shared a Russian tourist named Alexandra. “Every year, I take my whole family from my hometown to Moscow, then fly to Beijing, and from Beijing to Sanya. Although the journey is not short, the effect of treatment using traditional Chinese medicine is really good, and this health trip is worth it,” she added.

According to the report, over more than 20 years, Sanya Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has received over 100,000 patients from more than 30 countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, including Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Turkey. In addition, the hospital has signed contracts to provide TCM health and training services with countries such as Sweden and Malaysia. -0-

BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — The final round of the quiz "Remembering History, Building Peace Together" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was successfully held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) on Sept. 13. The event was jointly organized by the BFSU Russian Language Institute, CGTN Russian Office and the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of Renmin University of China.

The quiz was held under the guidance of the Education Council of the China-Russia Friendship, Peace and Development Committee and received active responses from universities across the country. The event started in May 2025 and lasted for four months in the format of an online quiz, attracting more than 400,000 participants, over 1.1 million views and over 10,000 discussions.

The Russian edition of CGTN organized offline quizzes in Russia's hero cities such as Moscow, St. Petersburg and Volgograd, attracting hundreds of Russian teachers, students and members of the public. In China, 19 universities took part in the online quiz, with teams from Renmin University of China, Northwest Normal University, Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Languages and PUFL reaching the finals.

Su Dapeng, deputy secretary of the PUJI Party Committee, gave a welcoming speech, warmly welcoming the guests and participants, and called on the students to take an interest in world affairs and contribute to the development of the country. He noted that the quiz would be an intellectual feast and spiritual purification, help to root the “red genes” in the hearts of Chinese and Russian youth, and make the torch of peace even brighter in the new era.

The final quiz consisted of two stages: alternate answers and competitions. In the first stage, five members of each team answered questions in turns, choosing the answer language /Chinese or Russian/ depending on the difficulty of the question. After five rounds, the teams' total scores were calculated. The students were delighted with their rich knowledge of the history of World War II and professional terminology.

In the second stage, four teams competed in pairs in a flexible and interesting format. Participants demonstrated deep knowledge and excellent command of the Russian language, reaching the culmination of the event and causing thunderous applause.

After a tough fight, the team from Renmin University of China won first place, the team from Northwest Normal University won second place, and the teams from Shandong Foreign Languages Vocational University and PUFL won third place.

After the quiz, students of the Institute of Russian Language of PUIL presented a program with recitation of poems in Russian. -0-

China Promotes Services Trade, Opens Opportunities for Global Cooperation

BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — Amid global trade challenges, China has sent new signals to further promote trade in services, giving a strong impetus to its own development and creating more space for global economic growth.

The signal has resonated strongly at the ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) 2025 in Beijing, which has brought together exhibitors from more than 80 countries, regions and international organizations.

As China steadily opens up its services sector and consumption shifts towards this area, the fair provides an important meeting point for global companies to access new opportunities, find solutions and share the benefits of China's high-quality development.

GROWING DEMAND

The fair, now in its 12th year, serves as a platform for China to showcase the development of its service industry and its market potential. The central exhibition area alone covers an area of over 100,000 square meters, equivalent to about 14 standard football pitches, covering a wide range of service sectors such as culture and tourism, education, transportation, health care, finance, environment, sports and information technology.

This year, CIFTIS offers visitors a unique opportunity to tour Beijing's most iconic cultural sites without leaving the walls of the cultural and tourism services hall.

Among the many exhibitors, the joint stand of the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and some other famous landmarks of Beijing, which brought their popular cultural and creative products to the event, stands out. This allowed overseas visitors to effectively get acquainted with the most striking manifestations of cultural creativity of the Chinese capital without having to travel all over the city.

“The fair offers a key platform for communication and cooperation with potential partners across various industries,” said Wang Fang at the Beijing Zoo booth, having just discussed potential cooperation in the production of eco-friendly souvenirs with a representative of one of the invited companies.

“Our goal is to provide both domestic and foreign tourists with better services and added value,” she added.

Instead of searching for traditional goods, CIFTIS visitors exchange impressions. As China enters a stage where the service sector accounts for more than half of the economy, demand for quality services is growing, creating space for the domestic industry to raise its standards and for international companies to seize opportunities.

China's consumption structure has reached a stage where consumption of goods and consumption of services are equally important, said Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping, noting that from January to July this year, retail sales of services grew 5.2 percent year on year, and the share of services in total consumption increased.

Sheng Qiuping pointed out that the problem is that there is insufficient supply of quality services to meet the growing demand. And in this context, CIFTIS plays an important role.

With nearly 2,000 exhibitors, including nearly 500 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders such as Walmart, AstraZeneca and KPMG, the fair provides a glimpse into some of the most innovative offerings in the global services industry.

Chinese humanoid robots have attracted considerable attention by demonstrating capabilities such as delivering food, making coffee, playing football and even taking part in boxing matches.

Hongson To, chairman of KPMG China and Asia Pacific, said China's development of new productive forces, including cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence, will drive progress in knowledge-intensive services trade.

"As an example of China's high-level opening-up, CIFTIS will continue to optimize the structure of trade in services and bring high resilience and vitality to the Chinese economy," he added.

DEEPENING OPENNESS

Paul Bateman, chairman of JP Morgan Asset Management, has visited China more than 150 times over the past 30 years. “With each visit I am more impressed by the vitality and growth of the Chinese market,” he said at the CIFTIS Global Services Trade Summit.

Noting that his company's presence in China has expanded in recent years, he stressed that thanks to China's decision to open up its services sector, especially to lift limits on foreign ownership in certain financial services, the growth of trade in services creates significant opportunities for the industry.

China continues to push for the opening up of its services sector. Last year, the country established a nationwide negative list management system for cross-border trade in services. In designated pilot free trade zones, foreign residents can now open an account to deposit and record securities or futures, and conduct business such as providing securities investment advice or futures trading support services.

These measures have contributed to a significant increase in trade in services. In the first half of this year, China's total services trade reached a record 3.9 trillion yuan (about $549 billion), up 8 percent year on year.

During the fair, officials pledged to make efforts to further open up the sector. “China will push forward pilot programs for opening up in the telecommunications and medical sectors, while steadily advancing opening up in the education and cultural sectors,” Sheng Qiuping said.

The country's authorities will also deepen alignment with high-standard international economic and trade rules and promote the formation of a transparent, stable and predictable institutional environment, he added.

"China is willing to work with all countries and parties to strengthen openness and cooperation in trade in services and promote global trade and economic growth," Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said at the fair.

SHARED CAPABILITIES

For international CIFTIS members such as Australian vocational education and training provider Chisholm Institute of TAFE, China's growing demand for quality services presents significant opportunities.

“We are looking to find partners that will enable us to deliver Australian skills services to the Chinese market,” said Christopher Hogg, global business development manager, highlighting education as a key area of cooperation in services trade between the two countries.

Over the years, CIFTIS has become a key platform that facilitates global cooperation, encourages exchanges of advanced services and creates shared opportunities for global business.

The Norwegian national pavilion, featuring nine companies from sectors such as healthcare, food and aquaculture, is a clear demonstration of how changing consumption patterns in China are creating opportunities for foreign businesses.

Henning Christoffersen, Trade Counsellor at the Norwegian Embassy in China, noted the alignment between Norway’s offer and the growing health consciousness of the Chinese. “Chinese consumers are very health conscious. And for the products that Norway creates, that’s great,” he said, seeing “great opportunities” for Norwegian businesses to find partners and supply goods to Chinese consumers.

As Sheng Qiuping noted, by deepening integration with global markets, strengthening industrial cooperation and expanding open cooperation in trade in services, China will inject greater impetus into global economic prosperity. -0-

International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Fascism

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Since 1962, in accordance with a UN resolution, the world has celebrated International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Fascism.

It is amazing, but 80 years after the defeat of the coalition of countries that made this inhuman ideology the basis of state policy, neo-fascism continues to exist. Humanity knows very well what this can lead to, the atrocities of the Hitler regime are recorded in documents and photographs, eyewitnesses of that era are still alive. Even despite this and the unequivocal condemnation of the world community, there are still political forces and ruling regimes that consider fascist methods of regulating public life acceptable. But the Nazis of the Third Reich did not simply unleash a war against other states, they systematically and cold-bloodedly sought to destroy the "lower" races and nationalities, without a twinge of conscience "cleansed" their own people of people with psychological illnesses or the disabled, did not spare children. Concentration camps became a terrible ulcer on the face of civilization, where the Nazis mass-exterminated those they did not like: they gassed, burned alive, starved, and conducted medical experiments.

The Soviet Union alone lost 26.6 million of its citizens during the Great Patriotic War. About half of them – 13.7 million people – were civilians and died without weapons in their hands. Of these, 7.4 million were deliberately exterminated, 2.2 million died at work in Germany, and 4.1 million died of exhaustion during the occupation. The Nazi troops, their allies and accomplices destroyed 1,710 cities and more than 70 thousand villages in our country. Statistics, behind each unit of which there is real human grief, physical and mental trauma that remained with those who survived the Nazi invasion until the end of their days. There are fewer and fewer contemporaries of those years. Now we must bear the heavy burden of memory of the victims of fascism for future generations and do everything to prevent a repetition of the history of the last century.

The State University of Management calls on us not to forget about the 60-65 million people who died due to the fault of an aggressively minded minority with an unfounded sense of superiority, which does not even recognize the right to life of people who disagree with them or who are different in appearance. Respect those around you, study history, remember the innocent victims, try not to allow the spread of radical ideas. These simple actions knock the ground out from under the feet of fascism, which is trying to rise again. Remember! Remember.

Deepening cooperation between China and Central Asian countries in tourism and trade discussed at CIFTIS in Beijing

BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — China and Central Asian countries are actively deepening cooperation in tourism, trade, energy and culture, a correspondent learned at the ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS-2025) in Beijing. The interest of the region's countries in the Chinese market continues to grow amid the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the introduction of a visa-free regime.

Wang Guanlong, CEO of Qingdao Link Culture Media Co., a company specializing in developing cultural and tourism products, said this was the fourth time his company had participated in CIFTIS. They had developed the mascot for the Pearl of the SCO International Exhibition Center in Qingdao.

"In fact, the Belt and Road countries produce many high-quality products, but they remain little known. We also need to step up promotion and cooperation in this area. I am glad that countries continue to expand the 'circle of friends', and each of them internally seeks deeper and larger cooperation with China," he added.

Kairat Shaimurat, a representative of the Xinjiang branch of PetroChina, said that since 1997, the company began its operations in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, providing technical support services. Current activities are focused on the markets of many countries, offering a full range of services – from exploration and production to personnel training. "We hope to consolidate the technologies and products of enterprises in the city of Karamay for the joint development of the Central Asian markets," he emphasized.

According to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, trade turnover between the Central Asian countries and China in 2024 reached USD 94.8 billion, which is USD 5.4 billion more than the 2023 figure of USD 89.4 billion. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan accounted for 70 percent of China's total trade with the region, becoming the main drivers of growth.

The Georgian wine stand was of particular interest to visitors. The company's CEO, Satavado Tavadze Levan, has lived in China for thirty years and speaks fluent "Beijing dialect." He spoke about the unique centuries-old winemaking traditions of his country, which uses clay jugs instead of buckets. "It's not what you drink that's important, but who you drink with. We have very special, unique traditions and rituals associated with feasting. Therefore, you definitely need to find time and come to Georgia to see everything with your own eyes and experience it personally."

Both Georgia and China are countries with ancient histories. Georgia was a natural part of the ancient Silk Road and remains a key link in the modern Eurasian transport corridor. “We share the deepest respect for parents and genuine hospitality, which creates a natural sense of closeness between our cultures.” He also noted the growing flow of Chinese tourists to Georgia and the growing interest in learning Chinese among Georgian youth. “In ten years, there will be many Chinese-speaking specialists here,” he is confident.

Li Xinbi, a representative of the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), said the organization, which unites 86 countries and regions, actively promotes cooperation between countries in the tourism industry. “Convenient transportation links, friendly policies and a high level of security make Central Asia an increasingly attractive destination for Chinese tourists. I have been to Samarkand twice myself and really liked the city,” he said. According to him, the federation will continue to organize meetings between tour operators from both sides to optimize tourism products.

“The WTFG is an important platform for global tourism cooperation, which has not only built a bridge connecting Dushanbe to the world, but also provided member cities with invaluable opportunities to exchange experiences and knowledge,” said Rustam Kholmatiyon, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, at the 2025 World Conference on Tourism Cooperation and Development within the framework of CIFTIS.

“Going forward, we will further strengthen strategic cooperation, share resources, expand markets and explore new ways to develop the tourism industry,” he added. -0-

CIFTIS showcases new wave of cultural consumption

BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — The Exhibition Hall of Cultural and Tourism Services has been one of the highlights of the 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS 2025), attracting large crowds to view its colorful displays.

Visitors strolled through bustling aisles filled with a stunning array of cultural and creative products, from fridge magnets to postcards and more.

CIFTIS 2025 not only showcased China's rich cultural heritage, but also demonstrated the innovative vitality of its cultural industry. Chinese enterprises combined tradition with modernity, national characteristics with global influence, and redefined cultural consumption, raising it to a new level.

REVIVAL OF TRADITIONS

Creative products created in a museum style have become an integral part of cultural consumption. Recently, the Phoenix Crown refrigerator magnet based on historical artifacts from the National Museum of China has caused a stir among buyers. In the cultural and tourism service area of CIFTIS 2025, local companies presented their own creations inspired by cultural landmarks.

Ren Bin, product manager of Panjiayuan Creative and Cultural Company, said they develop products based on traditional cultural elements. “We aim to preserve the beauty of cultural relics and bring in modern aesthetics, hoping to help young people understand China’s traditional culture,” he added.

Along with traditional culture, traditional crafts have become a new consumer trend. At the Fangshan District booth, staff demonstrated the process of grinding ingredients such as agarwood, rose and jasmine into fine powder, which is then turned into delicate beads for bracelets and accessories.

“These products are popular for their exquisite fragrances and their role in traditional Chinese aromatherapy, making them highly sought-after wellness souvenirs,” said Jiang Li, an employee of the company.

NEW CROSS-BORDER TRENDS

Even the most modern toys are influenced by traditional elements. Chinese toymaker Pop Mart has introduced products that combine traditional elements, such as Dunhuang Grotto-themed clothing.

While many designer toy companies draw inspiration from local culture, they are expanding their horizons globally. Letsvan's general manager of public affairs Shen Hao said the company's products are currently sold in Southeast Asia, North America and the Middle East.

"We actively incorporate elements of foreign culture into our products," he said, showing off a doll dressed in traditional Thai clothing and adorned with an elephant-ear-shaped hat. "This helps us create cross-cultural connections with our customers."

The company has been developing cross-industry collaborations, including recent partnerships with the China Open tennis tournament and China Fashion Week. Shen Hao added that Letsvan will continue to innovate through cross-disciplinary integration.

Hu Qiang, General Manager of Public Relations at Letsvan, commented: “Every era has its own iconic toys. While Barbie represented idealized beauty in the past, today’s dolls celebrate uniqueness and individuality, which resonates with young people’s desire for self-expression. This requires us to explore more diverse and interdisciplinary themes.”

INTERACTIVE CONSUMPTION

Collecting seal impressions in the exhibition hall has become a popular activity that began as a simple interaction but has now evolved into a new form of cultural consumption.

The stamp stands act as a guidebook, encouraging visitors to explore each stand. Many come prepared, with brand new notebooks, making collecting stamped images an unforgettable ritual.

At the China National Film Museum booth, visitor Hu Huiyuan carefully stamps a page in her brand-new notebook. “I already have a few of these notebooks at home,” she explains. “Because this event is so big, I made a new one just for this occasion.” For her, these collections are more than just mementos; they are tangible testaments to her life’s journey.

The trend has also taken on an artistic and creative twist: impressions from multiple stamps can be superimposed to form a single image, with each stamp adding a new color or line to the image. This turns simple stamping into personalized visual creations, enhancing the sense of involvement and experience.

In fact, the desire for deeper interactions and immersive experiences is now fueling cultural consumption. Visitors to CIFTIS 2025 lined up across the hall to experience mixed reality (MR) through wearables, immerse themselves in interactive virtual worlds, or take virtual tours of global landmarks. -0-
