Tbilisi, September 19 (Xinhua) — Kyrgyzstan became Georgia's largest export destination in January-August 2025, while the United States was the main source of imports, the Georgian National Statistics Office reported on Friday.

According to preliminary data from the agency, Georgia's ten largest export partners accounted for 79.8 percent of the country's total exports. Kyrgyzstan ranked first among the largest export destinations, with $943.1 million. Kazakhstan ranked second with $572.9 million, and Russia ranked third with $480.7 million.

Regarding imports, the ten largest partners accounted for 71.3 percent of all Georgian imports. The top three were the United States with $1.8 billion, Turkey ($1.78 billion), and China ($1.23 billion).

Among export goods, passenger cars led the way ($1.73 billion or 38.9 percent of total exports), followed by precious metal ores and concentrates ($239.1 million) and alcoholic beverages ($172 million).

Yerevan, September 19 (Xinhua) — The 11th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Armenia and Kazakhstan, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Ministers Mher Grigoryan and Serik Zhumangarin, was held online on Friday, the Armenian government's press service reported.

M. Grigoryan noted the importance of developing relations between Armenia and Kazakhstan, including within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He also pointed to the two countries' significant untapped potential in trade and economic partnership.

The Armenian Deputy Prime Minister placed particular emphasis on bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, stating that the country's government supports the project to create a multimodal freight transport route from Kazakhstan to Armenia through Turkmenistan and Iran. According to M. Grigoryan, existing freight shipments along the China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Armenia route demonstrate growing interest in expanding transport and logistics ties between the two countries.

"I believe these freight shipments could become regular, given the potential interest of Armenian entrepreneurs in the capabilities of the Khorgos International Border Cooperation Center, located on the Kazakh-Chinese border," M. Grigoryan emphasized.

Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia and Kazakhstan signed a protocol, which included issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, including cooperation in the areas of trade, economics, high technology, transport, tourism, healthcare, and education.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — A white paper released by the State Council Information Office on Friday noted significant improvements in the health of Chinese women thanks to the country's efforts to prioritize women and children in its health initiatives.

By improving institutional mechanisms and optimizing resource allocation, the country has provided women with lifelong health services, which has increased the average life expectancy of women in China to 80.9 years in 2020, according to a white paper titled "China's Achievements in Comprehensive Development of Women's Affairs in the New Era."

The document emphasizes that China has integrated its network of maternal and child health institutions into the national healthcare system, covering 1.4 billion people. From 2012 to 2023, the number of medical workers in maternal and child health institutions increased from 277,000 to 537,000, and the actual number of beds increased from 187,000 to 295,000. Currently, there are 3,081 such institutions in China.

China has made breakthroughs in addressing key women's health issues. China has strengthened resource coordination to integrate the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis B into core public health programs. By 2024, the mother-to-child transmission rate in China will have decreased to 1.2 percent, meeting the target for eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

China has also promoted the comprehensive prevention and treatment of cervical and breast cancer. From 2009 to 2024, 342 million free cervical cancer screenings and 245 million free breast cancer screenings were conducted nationwide. From 2012 to 2024, the central government allocated 3.01 billion yuan (approximately US$423 million) to treat and support women with these cancers. According to the White Paper, as of June 2025, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination had been included in public social security programs in 18 provincial-level regions, enabling 5 million girls of the appropriate age to receive free HPV vaccination programs annually.

By the end of 2024, youth health education services were provided in more than 10,000 primary and secondary schools and over 1,000 universities nationwide. Since 2012, the national hospital birth rate has remained above 99 percent. The maternal mortality rate has decreased by 76.9 percent, from 61.9 per 100,000 in 1995 to 14.3 per 100,000 in 2024, significantly below the global average.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), attended the award ceremony for the 2025 UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the award in Beijing on Friday.

Peng Liyuan, UNESCO Special Envoy for Girls' and Women's Education, joined O. Azoulay in presenting awards to representatives of the winning projects from Kenya and Lebanon.

Speaking at the event, Peng Liyuan noted that over the past decade, award winners from around the world and visionary leaders from various fields have helped girls and women adapt to social change and achieve personal growth through education.

The concept of empowering women through education has been widely recognized, enabling millions of girls and women to gain the confidence and ability to choose their own path in life and pursue their dreams, she said, adding that this is the significance of this award.

Noting that human society is entering the age of intelligence, Peng Liyuan emphasized the importance of paying more attention to scientific education, which allows people to acquire scientific knowledge, learn to apply new technologies, and enhance their innovative potential.

“We must strive to enable women to participate in the technological revolution and build fulfilling lives,” Peng Liyuan said.

The First Lady also stated that China has always attached great importance to the development of women's science education and looks forward to deepening cooperation with UNESCO and relevant parties to comprehensively strengthen capacity in this area and jointly improve the level of science education for women.

In her speech, O. Azoulay thanked the Chinese government for its consistent and invaluable support to UNESCO, praising Peng Liyuan's outstanding contribution to the advancement of girls' and women's education worldwide.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — By continuously improving policies supporting family development, China has strengthened the development capacity of families and created favorable conditions for women to lead more fulfilling family lives, according to a white paper titled "China's Achievements in All-Round Development of Women's Affairs in the New Era" released by the State Council Information Office on Friday.

Laws and regulations, including the Civil Code, the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests, and the Law on Combating Domestic Violence, were adopted in the country to protect women's rights in marriage and family, the document states.

In addition, marriage counseling services are widely available in China, provided by marriage registration authorities at the county level and above.

The maternity leave system has been improved, with many regions legislating for extended maternity and paternity leave, and introducing parental leave for parents.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — As China has built the world's largest social security system, women in the country now enjoy more comprehensive, reliable and equitable social security, according to a white paper titled "China's Achievements in All-Round Development of Women's Affairs in the New Era" released by the State Council Information Office on Friday.

According to the document, China's health insurance and old-age insurance systems have achieved full coverage. By 2024, 651 million women, or 49.1 percent of the total, were covered by basic health insurance.

In addition, 260 million women were covered by the basic pension insurance for rural and non-working urban residents, and 260 million women participated in the basic pension program for urban employees.

Maternity protection in China has also been significantly improved, according to the White Paper. It notes that by the end of 2024, 111 million women will be covered by the maternity insurance system.
